You are right, it is a little tricky getting that connecting rod back on. It's attached to the needle bar, and the needle bar rotates with the con rod disconnected. A good balancing act. I oiled things up, put it back together, and now it sews, still noisy, but a halfway decent stitch. It is interesting working on these old machines!
