I don't design quilts with Excel, but I use it to figure yardage. EQ doesn't always do the best job with that. I'm usually making a quilt using stash fabrics, and I'm always either working without a published pattern or modifying one.
Thanks Dunster for the further info. Like you, I seldom use patterns. Or if I do, well, it ends up something different! Either I just go the paper, pencil and calculator route ... or wing it on a prayer, thinking and hoping I have enough fabric!! Most times I don't end up in trouble, but then, there are times, that I then have to get creative to continue on!
