After reading all of the previous answers, there's just no way my experiences can compare...thank you all for sharing.
I do enjoy overhearing people voting for my quilts at shows (although I've never won any ribbons);
and I've had some people say things like "just let me know if you get tired of it."
Another nice compliment was when the church thought one of my quilts for donation was just too nice not to put in the "for sale" rack. It sold right away, and, of course, the money went to charity, so that was fine with me.
