It is a style. Actually Batik is a dying method. It is a wax resist dying method. Fabric is dyed a color then a design is applied with wax which resists the 2nd dye bath of another color. This can be done numerous times. Then the wax is melted out. The result is beautiful and unique and the techinque has been around for centuries. Most batiks are made in Indonesia (Bali). Hoffman's line of batiks is called Bali Batiks. Most major manufacturers have a batik line. I like Hoffman, Timeless treasures, most all of them!
