19th Mystery Quilt Train Ride

petthefabric, what Judy has us do for this quilt is the same as square in a square. And like most blocks, there are different ways to do it. Covered corners is very common and most people find it the easiest way.
I did the Gypsy wife quilt, and there are an assortment of square in a square blocks and the directions have you do covered corners. I gave up and figured out what the measurement would be starting withe the inner square, and then it worked fine for me. With this mystery, I cut off the corners of my background for sewing on the dark, but did the other side as covered corners because I cut all the squares ahead of time. And my blocks turned out larger than I wanted, but had I cut them down I'd have lost the points. So I eased them all in. Looks ok in the end.
But I did find a good use for most of the cut off corners for the light and medium fabrics.
here is my floppy. I started out cutting 4x to have a larger quilt, but then went with 5 rows x 6 rows with a 12" border all around and used 4 of my extra 6 stars in the corners. It's ending up 84 x 96.

IceLeopard: That would be my diagnosis!
dhanke: It's looking great!
Macybaby: Way to go!
I had my 2.5" squares cut per Judy's directions but when I found out they were going to be for covered corners, I cut HST's instead and left the background fabric under the covered square. I will use the cut squares for something else.

Macybaby, your top is beautiful! The colors are great and I love your pinwheel border! My border will incorporate some 4 patch blocks because in clue 2 I cut background squares instead of light squares, so I have a stack of those and some medium and dark squares cut from leftovers, I’m leading and ending with them for now.

All the finishes are great! Kudos to those who have the patience to expand their top to a much larger size...I am happy with the nine block square Judy designed for us! Thanks for all the kind words about that study in red/pink/white. I like it too!

I agree such beautiful finishes are being shown, everyone has done such a great job. My top has been finished being put together and is now waiting for it's turn at the long arm. I haven't decided how it will be quilted, I'm trying to decide if I want an all over meander or if I will use the robotics.
