I’m going to use that method next time. Thanks, Watson! I’d never heard of this way until you mentioned it.
Wow, I have never heard of this method. Thanks for the link! I bookmarked it and I'll be using this!

Thank you so much Belfrybat for directing me right to what I was looking for. The next traditional block I’m making that has flying geese in them I’m using that method instead. You see I’m making my own quilt from various free 12” blocks I’ve found on the Internet plus several from one book that inspired the quilt in the first place, Vintage Quilt Revival. I’m trying paper piecing for most of them & having a really fun time but 2 so far have been traditionally pieced & have had flying geese in them. I’ve managed to make them come out but I knew there was a better, easier way. So anyways, thank you for your link.
And JanieW, thanks also for your link to how Watson was previously describing sewing up her 4 patches. The only problem with that technique I see is that you have all 4 pieces of fabric matching unlike the scrappier version Judy recommended for this quilt. I guess you could mix them up with another set after you cut a bunch up in half the first time & get some different pairs together though huh?
Judy, thanks for your reassurance. It helps a lot. Did you say this next clue is the final one? Or is there one more?

I found this method even faster if you just sew two width of fabric strips together in this case at 4 /2 '' and the subcut those 4 1/2" squares. It cuts out a step . Of course then you have to trim your four patch but you have to anyway

Can't edit on my tablet so I'll just say when you do it this way it is super easy to match them up without even using pins to get perfect corners .

Just wanted to let anybody know that might be interested this is the last day to sign up for the Secret Santa. I’m going to try it. It only goes up to a $20 gift plus there’s shipping so it’s not much to bring someone on here some real quilting/sewing joy since a lot of the time our non sewing family members & friends just don’t get us, huh?

Can’t wait for the next clue & for others to post their pictures of their 4 square blocks. Please let us see what you’re doing!

Anybody know of a block swap that’s going on that I could join? I’ve never done one & thought it’d be fun. Is that okay to ask here or should I post the request in the open forum? If anyone’s hosted one before could you pm me and tell me what’s involved? I’d like to try it. I assume it’s kind of like the couple of swaps I did a very long time ago for scrapbooking.

    Thanks,
    Julz
