I can understand why your scrolls are difficult on the 7" size they are teeny. I know Lesley did a 10" block size and so did I. Have you thought about doing reverse applique, might it be easier that way, just a thought.
I baste mine round the paper shape first, that helps me.

I'm doing ten inch blocks, but wondered if tiny "gathering" stitches in some parts would help "suck the fabric/seam allowance under?"
Does that make any sense,...or would it be just as easy to use the fabric glue?

Lynnie..I'm doing the 7"ers. I haven't found an "easy" way to do the scrolls. I think we just have to go very slowly and just barely have enough to turn under. Too much seam allowance causes me more of an issue than too little I think.
