For BarbM and Chele: if you used the templates from the website, the problems you had putting the block together were NOT your fault. the seam allowances on the triangular templates for the stars are WRONG. They start out (from bottom to point) as 1/4" but end as 3/16ths on one side. On the other side, they are 7/32" at the bottom, and only 3/16th" at the point. That may not sound like much, but it will make a big difference.

Anybody using the templates from the website should remember to use their rotary rulers to measure the true 1/4" seam allowance when trimming the triangles before sewing.

P.S. both blocks look luverly to me anyway! if you hadn't admitted to the problems we would never have known. :P

Geez Patrice, you're right, i just measured the template, and it's off. But, one thing this confirmed to me, i'm a paperpiecing gal all the way! lol

Thanks for the info, Patrice! And here I thought it was just me! I feel better now. I'd like to try ShellyQ's all paper pieced version. It's a neat looking block.

Chele & Barb, those blocks are great and so brave of you to give the Y-seams a go, not me, I happily admit I'm a big chicken  Another thing to watch for and something I've discovered after alot of frustation is that not all printers are created equal either, it is real important to check the measurement of your templates after you have printed out too :? .

the only reason i even printed the website pattern was to go through the steps, taking photos as i go, in case somebody else used it and had problems. the blocks at the site are beautifully illustrated but the instructions there almost always have mistakes that cause problems if you try to follow them step by step.

if i want to use patterns with mistakes in them, i may as well use my own patterns with mistakes in them. You-Know-Who knows i have plenty of them.

Lol that's so funny Patrice, I've had to go back to the old fashioned graph paper method till I get my printer problems sorted, cause I got plenty of patts with mistakes in them too. I think I'll have to get something a little bit more advanced, HP have been recommended to me. My printer is just a cheepie and it prints beautifully visually but acurrately? No. I'm gonna take a CD in with me with some of my patts on when I go to buy a new one and if they won't let me try, then no buy

The Printer company were no help said it was a microsoft prob, But seeing as it does it on all my programms not just MS, I didn't think so. Any way I contact MS (very helpful by the way) they confirmed what I already thought, said it was the way the printer interpreted the data, so prob no fix for it. Which leaves me with having to buy a new printer, you can be sure I won't be buying any dang thing untested
