Mom-6: I never cut my scraps up until I acquired several books that designed some very nice quilts around precuts. Can't say I cut all my scraps, but when the mood strikes, I do cut the scraps that lend themselves to various widths of strips and squares.

Here is what Bonnie Hunter says about scraps:

http://quiltville.com/scrapusersystem.shtml

I have drawers full of scraps, sorted by color. However, if there are just a few pieces left from cutting for a quilt, that have anywhere from 1 1/2" to 5", I cut them into squares and add them to the shoe box bins I have of those sizes.

I just happened to read Bonnie's scrap user system yesterday (above, in Jeanie's post). It had never occurred to me to cut up my scraps but I can see that it might make things easier if you do a lot of scrappies. I don't have that many scraps because I try not to buy more than I need. When Pokerdiva was hosting Carol Doak's 52 paper pieced stars, I think the LQS was getting very sick of me coming in and buying yet another 1/4 yard of fabric. Although, I have to admit, I have recently been buying some fabric just for the sake of the fabric. I think that must be some kind of milestone in the world of quilting.

I cut scraps that are just pieces into squares...I also cut WOF into strips if they are just 8" or less. Mostly cut 2 1/2" strips...can use for bindings or squares. 1 1/2" & 2" strips usually end up as borders around squares. I keep squares in plastic shoe boxes, strips in others. So when the boxes start getting full, just pull whatever will go together & make a quilt (usually for donation). One time I pulled all my pastels, no matter the size of the squares; sewed them into panels, added strips to finish the panel size to match up to sewing another block size panel, etc. Then appliqued some colorful butterflies on the quilt to give it a "pop"...that quilt is one of my favorites I've made from scraps--sold it to a friend. Cost basically nothing! And fun to do...I absolutely love scrappies. Usually don't even have a pattern, just go for it!

If anyone wants to come I'll make lunch. Now just so you know I have 7 mid size totes, 3 huge totes and 14 Avon size boxes full of scraps that need cutting and sorting. Any takers???? I'll share my scraps with you.
I'd help you except I have enough of my own I need to cut & organize!

Just my luck if I cut up what I have it won't be the right size I need, so I just wait...I don't have any money to buy more fabric. What I have has to be enough.

I so need a vacation and Florida is my favorite place to go. I would come do it in a heartbeat just for the fun, and to check out someone elses stash and see where your ideas lie. And for the fun of meeting someone new, with like taste in crafting, for laughs, man I can think of all kinds of reasons. Can't do it though, can't take off in winter, too chancy for me, furnace is fussy about wanting to run this year, I really don't like dealing with frozen pipes, so sad. But I can think and dream on it anyway. Good luck with your scraps, lol.

You are so smart. Maybe you should do a scrappy idea section, often, lol. Thanks for the idea

I may need to move to Oklahoma City area. On second thought it snows there so I guess I'll stay here.
E-10 has 10% ethynol in it, not pure gas. regular gas was $2.09 gal. and yes, we got 2.5 inches of snow on Saturday and expecting more this weekend, so it does get cold here.
