Yeah!!! You are making great progress on her! It gets more exciting with every step closer to the end. I couldn't crawl on the floor with mine and I did it mostly on the kitchen table. The olive sounds lovely! Go Jan GO!!

sewNso 05-21-2011 11:53 PM

i did my last block, J10 friday. i am thinking on the quilting now. did not do the kites. thinking i might have to tweak them. cause i might increase the 3/4 in strip between tri's and blocks. who knows. i'm not there. i could just leave extra white material around the edges. but have decided to wait to do them, till i am ready to sit them. the more i think about it, the more i think i will hand quilt them, with extra thin batting. then QAYG as you add the strips between the blocks, like lacelady posted. and like a lot of you have done.
wonder how long that will take me? i have an impatient type A personality when it comes to quilting. and otherwise, i think, a lot of the time.
and i have several months of stars and houses BOM to catch up on.......busy doing jane.....

sandpat 05-22-2011 05:06 AM

Well, its darn hard to say how long it will take you. I think it only took you a week to do all the blocks and tris  It may take you 3 days to quilt! LOL! I started the QAYG when I was about halfway through making the blocks.....took me 4-5 weeks to catch up with myself, then I just did the quilting the same week I did the blocks. I can't begin to guess how you will find to do them really quickly!

sewNso 05-22-2011 05:31 AM

and i ordered the jane book to see 'her' quilting better.
brenda's J10 showed on the software to quilt around inside each melon.

sandpat 05-22-2011 06:10 AM

I did the same thing...ordered the book when I started the quilting. I changed a bunch though...I like a little bit more quilting than Jane did.

sarahelloyd 05-23-2011 11:36 AM

Yay, I've got 3 squares, 5 triangles and the 4 corners kites to go, then it's onto the sashing!

are you quilting as you go? i am considering how i want to quilt it. letting it chill for a week. doing other things, right now.

sandpat, don't know how you could squeeze in any more quilting than it appears jane put in/on her blocks. the book, sure shows a lot, and the more i look at it, the less thrilled with it, i am. haven't studied the tri's yet. but noticed the kites, sure had a lot. got my book in the mail today, and looked at it, just a little.

sarahelloyd 05-23-2011 03:09 PM

Hi, I know this is really late from your post, but I am still 'doing' my Jane too!

sarahelloyd 05-23-2011 03:29 PM

I haven't been quilting yet because I wasn't sure how to do it, but I think I will put my blocks into 4 or 9 square and then quilt them so I don't have so many joins in the batting.
I am not as patient as Lesley (Lacelady)!! Also - thinking that I would put little blocks in sashings I need to decide which one to do etc etc etc. Still my target is to finish the blocks first and then lay them out and then decide.

sarahelloyd 05-23-2011 03:31 PM

Message for Lacelady too:

I am on my knees in admiration of your finished quilt. It is just soo lovely and I hope you get lots of prizes for it. It has spurred me on to finish, but going through the pages one at a time from the start I have just got to 264 (roughly) when I found your pics. Just fabuuuulous! Congratulations!!

sandpat 05-23-2011 04:41 PM

I'm just so happy to hear from ya'll still working along on the quilt. You will be soo glad that you finished her..what an accomplishment to be proud of! Keep going girls!

sarahelloyd 05-24-2011 07:47 AM

Where would I find photos of those that are finished already, I've found Lacelady's but not any other ones?

sandpat 05-24-2011 04:55 PM

Here is mine

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-101264-1.htm

Elle isn't quite finished...Jan is getting close...There are some other finished ones on the Jane Topic List though. I try to add them there when I find them.

sewNso 05-24-2011 06:12 PM

sara- bluechicken has posted the link to the flicker link on page 19 of this main DJCBP. i could just sit and look at all the janes for hrs. just hit the 'older' or 'newer' arrow. enjoy....

also.....Jane A. Stickle-The Finished Quilt

sandpat 05-25-2011 05:43 AM

Which one is Blue's? I couldn't find it and I'd love to see it.

sarahelloyd 05-25-2011 02:28 PM

Thanks for your help, I'm going to look now because I am trying to decide what colour to do the sashing as I have just 2 of the kites done and then I am done!!!

sandpat 05-25-2011 03:09 PM

Yippee...only 2 kites to go! Its getting exciting, isn't it??? :D:

Janstar 05-25-2011 04:11 PM

Hi all! Still working on hand sewing the binding on and the hand stitching on all the sashings and then, Ta Da!!!!!!!! I think it really got exciting when I started sewing the binding on. Pics to follow in a few days!!!!!!!!!!!

PS I did the 40" sq. for the binding and had 10 yds. left over. No kidding! Not to worry though, I'll use it on another quilt. My first time making continuous bias binding. Still learning new stuff. Awesome!

don't know which one was her's. she was just giving us the link to see jane's that were finished.

i decided that i wasn't going to quilt my individual blocks with the batting. i'm putting the strips together. don't know whether i will put it on a frame and quilt it by hand, long arm it, or machine quilt. i saw a quilt the other day that just had circles, circles, and we ended up having melons, melons, melons. i got a circle do dad, and have never used. we will see.
and i am just more in luv with it, with just the rows of vertical rows done. it is just looking real nice.

sandpat 05-26-2011 05:20 AM

LOL Jan! I have scads of continuous binding wrapped around thread cones where I've made too much. It is kinda nice to have the extra laying around though when I need it. I can't wait to see your pics!!! I'm so anxious!!

Sew..can't wait to see yours being put together either, the circles (melons) sound like a good way to quilt this one if you don't want to do the individual blocks...good idea!

sarahelloyd 05-26-2011 01:09 PM

Well, I finally finished all the blocks, tris and kites. Thought that was the hard bit, but now I need to work out where to place the blocks. Because I didn't have the software to plan I have done them randomly from scraps and now need to work out the placement. Was there ever such a backward quilter????

I didn't see Blue's quilt on that link. She was doing a storm at sea sashing on hers. If I remember right her colors are blue, gray and white. Jan am I remember correctly?

deb

sandpat 05-26-2011 04:56 PM

I was thinking that she liked the brights..but I do remember the storm at sea border.

Sarah...well, I moved my blocks all around because I just picked fabs that I like together for each block. It ended up that sometimes there were 2 together that looked too much the same..so, no worries. If the Jane police knock on your door...let us know, we'll take care of them for you! LOL!

sewNso 05-28-2011 11:58 AM

so, where do i put pictures of my top going together?
i put them in the main picture section. couldn't figure out how to get them in the jane sections.

sandpat 05-28-2011 04:22 PM

I'll put them here for you Sew...

sewNso 05-28-2011 05:31 PM

thx, if you think they go there. didn't know whether to stick them on page 386, week 58 or where. sat and looked at the strips hanging tonite. found a couple blocks i wanted to tweek. needed to just sit and do that.

sandpat 05-28-2011 05:48 PM

Yes, it should go on the Jane Topic List along with all the others!

Janstar 05-28-2011 08:59 PM

Yes Deb, Blue's quilt is blue and light grey. I did'nt see the link they were talking about. Would love to see all of them. I'm still hand quilting. Have two days off coming up so plan to sew alot!

Great news Sara! Can't wait to see.

Good job Sew. There are lots of decisions to make on her, isn't there?

Janstar 05-28-2011 09:54 PM

Patti, I was so shocked to see how much binding you can get out of a square of fabric. It's an amazing way to do it. Thanks so much for the link!

sandpat 05-29-2011 04:37 AM

I just love doing it that way Jan....and I can't wait to see your quilt!

sewNso 05-29-2011 04:49 AM

i just saw a blue and lite gray jane somewhere.

yes, jan, lots of decisions. did you all catch out of barb papa's book that she thought we would all make variations, smaller, different jane's. and not make EVERY block. she was amazed that ladies would do that.

lots of decisions, lots of tweeking, if you wanna, or just let them go. i can't. and then i still am not talanted enough to make 'show quality'...and also, that is not my thing.

sarahelloyd 05-29-2011 06:18 PM

I must be dim but I can't find where to see the Jane photos on here. Can anyone help me please?

I have put my blocks into bigger groups so that I can quilt them like Lesley did but with less final joining and am now waiting for Tuesday (we have a national holiday Monday) for my LQS to open to get some batting!

Guess I'll have to do housework on Monday!?!?!

sandpat 05-30-2011 04:45 AM

Sarah, here is a list...http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual...jsp?vsnum=1009 you can find some of them here mixed in with the cyber sew to pics.

Here is a link to the Gallery of Janes here on the board too. Its not all of them that I've seen though. Although I do see BlueChicken's in there and we've been looking for that one!

http://www.quiltingboard.com/user_page.jsp?upnum=3585

Housework on Monday???? Oh no!!!!! Heaven forbid!!

sarahelloyd 05-30-2011 09:43 AM

Sandpat so many thanks, I would never have found my way there, but having found it I'm going to spend more time there!
ps housework didn't win. hehe!

This is at my DDs office with the three long, tall tables put together. I'm working at home now with just one long, tall table. That sure made it easy, while it lasted.

sewNso 05-31-2011 08:36 PM

are you hand quilting it, or did you QAYG?
I hope mine turns out half as nice. LOL.

Lacelady 06-01-2011 02:47 AM

I just popped in to see how you are all getting on - amazing, - there are several almost there now, so congratulations ladies - your quilts are looking so good.

It was nice to see the link to the Jane pics - Blue's border is definitely different, and I suppose it was 'instead' of the storm at sea sashings?

sandpat 06-01-2011 04:14 AM

Jan, it looks fabulous!!! wow, those table really helped I'm sure. This girl is so heavy! I put mine away under the comforter on my guest bed yesterday...I might show it this fall...I just don't know.

You'll be totally done with it before you know it now...then....whats next???? :D:

sarahelloyd 06-01-2011 05:36 PM

Jan, your quilt is beautiful. I just love the colours and the way you are sat working on it.
