1-February-2014 BOM Squares & Rectangles Photo's.

Hello Again,

I am starting with a photo of the two blocks that I have made for February. I hope you enjoy looking at them. I chose to stay with the same color theme, that I did for last year, so by the end of this year, I will have a bigger quilt. These were so fun to make. I can hardly wait to see what you ladies will come up with for your new blocks!!
:D :D :D :D

i grabbed a stack of 24 different fat quarters and some cream background fabric. (about a yard and a half.)
i got two lap-sized tops out of that and still have leftovers from the fat quarters.
these two will go along with others my friend and i are making to donate to a nursing home. :)

for the first top, i set the blocks into sashing that's about 2-1/2" wide, with a plain 3" border.

for the second, i used 1" sashing and threw together a pieced border from the leftovers. i haven't measured yet, but i think i could squeeze enough pieces out of the fat quarters to make blocks for two more tops.

WOW, your quilt tops, using the February pattern's turned out wonderful. It looks to me like you have been one busy quilt maker, that's for sure. Thank you again for sharing & we look forward to seeing them when you are all finished!!

What pattern did you use? I would like to try to make one.

i just used the block patterns from QuiltersCache.
no pattern for the block layouts.
i just alternated the blocks along each row.

both tops have blocks that are going in wrong directions.
i was able to fix one of them, but the other one would take too long.
i'll just make a replacement of that top for the nursing home and keep the goofy one for myself.

i am going tomorrow to get what i need to create a decent design "wall." LOL

Looks like everyone is off to a good start. SulaBug did you machine embroider on your 2nd block?

I can find the many blocks but nothing that says BOM 2014--is there a certain page I should be looking at? Thank you.

No I did not do machine embroidery on my second block. I love to hand embroider, so I thought I would add an extra touch for the month of February!! Last year in 2013 the BOM was a heart block, so that gave me the idea. Thank you for asking!!
:D :D :D :D

pattilynn 02-02-2014 02:29 PM

If you go to page 2 on quilters cache, it shows the layout for both.

Thank you so much, that means a lot coming from you. Yes I am making 2 quilts, the B/R/W (I already have many squares for that one, probably enough to make 2 or 3, and I decided to make one show casing flowers. I hope it turns out pretty. (I'm already thinking Christmas)

SulaBug 02-03-2014 10:22 AM

Jaba & Gramquilter2............Both of your blocks are wonderful & I love the color's you have picked for the year. Jaba I am so glad to see that you are going to use the same color's as you did for 2013. I love those color's so much, good for you. Gramquilter2 The three colors that you picked are also gorgeous together. I can just tell that you will also have a beautiful quilt at the end of this year. Thank You ladies for sharing with all of us here today, on the Quilting Board. Very nice work!!

Sulabug, is that pink I see in your blocks?

Here are mine.
I am not pleased with the Squares upon Squares one. I think I may have to redo it with the blue as the full square.
I'll leave it for now but may change it later. I was thinking about doing scrappy but may go with a gold, green and blue combo. Your suggestions would be appreciated. If I use the g/g/b combo, do you think I should have more contrast? less contrast? I am not good with color choices, so please feel free to give me tips.

Loving what I'm seeing:thumbup:........I am playing catch-up today. Finished the medallion quilt round (making strictly from scraps), posted. Got both of these blocks made (making strictly from stash), posting. Now to start cutting for the mysterytrain (making 2 of these--a boy & a girl; making strictly from scraps & stash). Love the QB QA's!:thumbup::thumbup: I have about 2 dozen plastic bags (open, of course) with fabrics put together that are ready for quiltmaking. I grabbed this one & I think I'm going to love this quilt...it's going to be very soft colors. I may keep this one for myself! Anyway, here are the first 2 blocks. Dusty mauve, dusty blue, dusty green, and a mottled dusty tan...

m-fay 02-07-2014 04:40 PM

I like all that have been posted ad like Vicki, mine will be strictly from stash (when I get started) meanwhile I'm collecting combinations from you all.

Just wondering, is squares and rectangles the theme for this year or is that just the block this time?

The theme for this year is Squares & Rectangles, but there are so many different patterns that can be made, using this type of a theme. Stay tuned in for March, I think you won't be disappointed, at least I hope not!!
