Not plain at all, the windows and cute bush sets it off...good choice!

Conniequilts 01-10-2011 02:09 PM

this is my Wednesday night project. Unfortunately tonight I have to do some frog sewing to replace a border. Tomorrow night I will pick my materials and then Wednesday night sew :)

This will be my first BOM. I loved the church pattern. Couldn't get my printer to work, but guestimated the templates and the block came out pretty well. Thanks so much

I am so glad to hear that you have finished your block!!
Everyone is doing a marvelous job!!
:D :D :D :D

My pattern for the church printed out 1/4" to large (measured the square). Should I use it like that since I want a 12" block or how do I make it smaller?

Margie,
If I were you, I would go ahead & make your block using the pattern you already have. It should turn out great, as the original pattern is only 10" & we want a 12" finished block when we are done. Good luck wiht your block, I will be anxious to see it when you are done.

This is the first time for me to do a BOM quilt. I have made the pattern pcs but I guess I'm too picky about the fabric...... I am determined it will get done!! Thanks for choosing this block
God bless, Dee

Okay, will have to find out just how to add the picture on after I get it done.

I can take a picture or even scan it, but how to add it is what I need to know, just what to go into.

Hmmm for some reason I am also having printer problems...I get a message that says "printer spool service not running" anyone have a clue?
I was wondering if I could just trace the pattern from my computer screen?

I was so excited last night after reading ALL the messages, finally got the computer & printer to connect, printed out template A @ 100%, the 1" test sq. measures 1" but boy the pattern pieces look so small.....how do i know if I am on track as far as the measurments? again they just seem so small, which is probably why I have always avoided learned pp. I have today to sew all day & was really hoping to accomplish today..any help would be very much appreciated.
Sorry , I truly hope I am not going to be annoying .

candi 01-17-2011 08:00 AM

Measure the test square on all three pages templates, all of three squares should measure 1". If they do you are good to go, and will end up with a 10.5" unfinished church blocks!
Have fun!

Candi huge thanks...as you could probably tell I am one of those nervous nellies when doing something out of my comfort zone, which is one of the reasons I am forcing myself to learn this. All my test sq. measured out exactly right, so I guess I am good to go.
Thanks again

p.s. also joined my local quilt guild last week, another huge step out of my comfort zone-boy don't know if I can handle all this..lol :-) :-)

I hear you! Yippee for you both on your test squats being exact and joining your local guild, it is good for us to get out of our comfort zone every once and a while!

After printing out all 3 templates, B & C look bigger the A even though each 1" test sq measures the 1". I printed it out in landscape mode as was suggested.

Blinky 01-19-2011 09:00 AM

I am already doing the house block of the month. I was looking for the star bom that started on the 15th of each month. I didn't realize there are two separate forums....one for the house bom and one for the star. Which is ok but like the church bom there are a few forums discussing the star block also. You have to bounce around to each forum to make sure you don't miss anything. Wish there was only one forum for posting pics and discussion for the star bom and only one forum for the church bom

The pitz 01-19-2011 04:10 PM

Amen!!!!!
I'll be doing both, so wish me luck!

Blinky,
I am sorry that your are having a hard time finding all of the BOM threads that you need to view. If you would go to the posting: Blocks of the Month for 1 - January 2011 & click on that heading you will find where I have posted the information for the whole year. At the bottom of my post you will see a blue website listing, click on that & it has listed both of the threads that you will be looking for. As each month comes along, I will update that months block for directions & discussion, then one for pictures of the finished blocks. The Star BOM for the 15th will be posted just the same. I hope this helps you find things easier.

I started on my church block this morning, I finished the top half of the block, but I think my roof is going to be a little narrow, I'll work on the bottom half after lunch

What I did was measure the 1" square and then measured across both pieces on template A and the window piece on template B. If they all measure 10" without 1/4 seams then you are good to go that direction. Then I measured down one window piece, down the roof piece and down sky (6) piece on template C to make sure it all measured 10".

In one word, precision - nice sharp points, accuracy with tiny pieces. It is a technique that takes some practice, but is worth all the effort!

lbaillie 02-24-2011 07:25 AM

I'm a little behind. but I'll catch up. this will be fun!

I decided to learn doing the block of the month with you guys. I am new to the site so I am a little behind. But went to town and bought some material to do the church and the farmhouse. I finished the church a few minutes ago an thought I would share it. It was fun. And it didn't take too long. I enjoyed it. The farm house looks more complicated. lol I will try.
