I also finished TR10 and BRC. I've decided to use the background of BRC on all kites and the scallops at the outer border of Jane. TR10 [wk of 8/8/12] I measured carefully - didn't PP - surprise!! All those squares finish 7/8" - so you simply need to cut them 1 3/8" carefully - there are 6 print and 4 background. The bottom triangles are 7/8" + 7/8" or 1 3/4" squares cut diagonally once. The two HST of print/background material are made by sewing on either side of a diagonal made on a 1 3/4" square. Cut you side strips 1 3/8" wide for the bottom ones - and wider to go across two squares on the center four side strips and so forth. I didnt put all measurements down but they are easily figured out from the drawing. I've also posted my finished BRC here.

Then .... one more - F2 [week of 10/7/12] I paperpieced - drew arrow sections with the two little bottom pieces - four of the red around bottom of white and four the opposite. Then I added the four corner white triangle corners. [sorry no pics] But one thing I will show you is my fabrics. I fussy cut the reds out of a 'prairie homefront' all over hourglass / bones ..forget the name.

Jane's pieces are so small, I have made many of the blocks by fussy cutting sections of all-over Civ War fabric compilations. J3 - which is not on the schedule for a couple of weeks, has a funny mixed-print look to it. To start making that one, I cut a template window of the center section to decide what part of my fabric to use. You can see it from the picture. That fabric is called "Crossroads to Texas."

I also fussy cut the print parts of J1 above out of the third fabric I show here - by Andover fabrics - in fact I used that fabric for 4 other blocks!

i redid TLC 2 times, and was not happy with it. 'then', i looked it up on 'thatquilt', which usually i do first. can't believe i didn't look it up first like i usually do. could have smacked myself, because 'thatquilt' made TLC look so easy.
but i must admit, i picked up TLC to do after i had sewn together 4.5" squares into 9 patches for a full queen size quilt. shouldn't have started it, when i wasn't fresh, and while DH was doing electrical work 4 ft from me. he was putting in more plug ins for me in the basement sewing area.

Kite - Top Left Corner. I'm deviating from the schedule to get all the kites done at once. I like your idea, Gus, of using the same fabrics for all four kites and am worried if I don't do them now I won't be able to locate the fabrics when the time comes!! This picture was taken before I had the nerve to trim to size. I did trim it, but I think I'm 1/4" too large. Better too big than too small, right? I'll take care of that later. I'm a little disappointed, do you notice the lone hex (at the top of the kite)? It's so close to the seam that it's almost caught in the seam. Also, the inside (background) tiny triangles on the edges of the center block area (the outer edges of the nine hex area) are cut short, and the outer four corner areas are completely cut off? I worked very carefully, basting carefully along the way. I followed auntreen's instruction to trim the center area to 5 1/8." I wonder if somehow I made the hexes slightly too large or perhaps should have trimmed that area to 5 1/4." Oh, well, I am happy with the center of the hex area.

I just put the binding on one of two quilts I got back from the LA. 'The Country Bride,' (applique) and a snowball with Amy Butler fabrics. I should make labels for both of them. I have another applique quilt that is in progress (the Piece O' Cake Christmas one) but I haven't worked on it in probably 2-3 years. I went back to school and put things on hold, yet somehow thought I should start DJ last January with this group!! What was I thinking? Maybe because the blocks are small? :D I sew on the dining room table so it has been a good project to keep organized in baskets and be able to clean them up when I need the table. I had it cleaned up and wasn't working on it in order to have the dining room for the holidays and to host book club and ladies game night. But DJ has taken over again, yeah! I finished school a little over a year ago and treasure my quilting time.

I also have other quilts in progress, we got two new dogs, and we go to our sons sporting events (he plays something during every season.) We have a small garden, so starting to think about getting out there and doing a spring clean-up. My husband does the lion's share of the garden and yard work. I do a little canning, and would like to do more this year. I just took a jewelry class, but quilting is my true love. Oh, and that working thing. ;) I love my hour of quilting in the mornings before I leave for work. It's a happy time of day.

Gus, I just went to the AOTH thread. The quilt is beautiful!! Is that group over? I don't have time to look at it all now, but have always loved your avitar.

and LS12 [wk of Jan 13] I made this the same way as TR10 a few days ago. It is a very similar block with lots of squares cut 1 3/8" so they finish 7/8" and strips cut 1 3/8" wide - most of them. for the bottom triangle I matched the 4" marks on either side of a 6" square to the straight edge of fabric and cut the triangle [a half-4"square] I machine sewed it to the assembled top to within 1/4" from end on one side, I stitched an inch or so down the other side and finished by machine. Last, I appliqued the diamonds at the top [fussy cut - managed to find a small rose in the fabric for the tiny top!]

got a quilt binded today, and finished TLC to my liking. but first i cleaned and vacumed the basement sewing half real good. when i start binding, or finishing a quilt, i like for everything to be nice and clean to start off with. i usually clean up good everymorning before i start sewing anyway.
going to set that last kite in jane2 tomorrow. might take a pic afterwards. i checked over every block real well a couple days ago to make sure i hadn't forgotten any little triangle or left a piece of paper in someplace. placed a safety pin any place i wanted to tweak. found a couple blocks that needed attention.

Oh....sewNso... can I get you to come here and clean a little for me so I dont feel guilty and since you're much farther along with your Jane??? pls??? I can provide you with lots of California sunshine:o

Well got back from the hand quilting class and made one very important decision...ahem... my Jane will NOT be hand quilted! the class was fun, but I would like Jane finished before I am buried!

These aren't the greatest pictures, I'm using my camera phone and lighting is not great. I left them folded and bunched hoping that with the shadows it shows the quilting. This is The Country Bride quilt that I mentioned that I just got back from the LA quilter. I often think that some quilts 'deserve' hand quilting, especially hand appliqued quilts. But, didn't she do an amazing job on this? These pictures don't do it justice, I wish you could all see it in person. So . . . Gus, good plan, I think! And maybe you will be able to finish it up in time for your show this year. That would be awesome!

AND i am not the hostess of this site, that makes all the wonderful tut's. and gives all the words of encouragement to everyone. AND i am retired. i just play 'granny' before and after pre school, sew and raise our yearly supply of veg's here on the farm.
and I was sooo pleasantly surprised how quickly my first jane was quilted. i put her on a frame, and sat her on my dining room table and every nite, or most days, when i was resting from whatever other chore , i would do a block or half a block, or a row. however i felt at any given time.
but of course it did take me 6 months or so. no grdsn today. he had a dentist appt. then his mom was dropping him off at pre school.
