gus, saw your posts last nite about sewing just up to the corner, stopping, checking to make sure it was going to line up. So when i sat my lst kite today, your demo was in the back of my mind. i basted to the last tri to 1/4 in of the corner, it lined up, so i sewed it. the right side , i basted the last tri to within 1" of the corner and i needed to adjust the ease just a little, so, did, then sewed the last tri and kite right up to the corner. thx for the demo. can't believe it worked out the lst time without having to 'unsew' it.the seam doesn't look straight along the right side of the kite, but it is. the quilt was hanging, and i just pulled the bottom edge over to the ping pong table and laid just the corner out to photo it. thx gus.

Gus, your dedication is inspiring! The block turned out beautifully!
SewNso - very nice! And thank you for posting the pictures.
Katybob, beautiful, as always!
Gladys, I want to hear your water feature as I sit and sew. :)

We are expecting snow - yeah!! - I hope I get snowed in and can work on DJ.

the plain tri just to the left of BRR kite was pieced with about 6 small pieces. a cousin was visiting from kansas a couple years ago, and tucked some of her scraps into a scrap box of mine. i just had to include some of her scraps in jane2. and i am a very 'thrifty' sewer anyway.
in fact cousin donna quilts and works in a quilt store in witchita, and teaches classes and LA's there. anyone from witchita here?

Nope - never been to Witchita :) gonna rain here tomorrow - wish we had snow once in a while.... it certainly has been cold enough this winter - been in the mid to upper 20s at night a couple dozen times. It would be nice to have some 'white' to show for it! I mostly do love the weather here although the extreme heat is not for me.

Glad to see we are sewing a little more! Thx sewNso and Cindy :) had our minigroup meeting last night and they helped me decide what fabrics to use for my sashing [going to use one that one of them picked out for me last year]. I was wavering between a solid high quality muslin and a reproduction era small print tone on tone off-white/goldish and we decided on the print. Also went to my LQS, Cotton & Chocolate in Thousand Oaks - if any of you ever get out this way, you've got to check it out! The store had made their own 'candy bars' [half a jelly roll - 20 WOF strips] and used Civ War for some of them - YAY - I think I may just have what I need to finish. Found a perfect fabric for this week's corner kite, BRC. I'm glad I hadn't started with the yellow I had picked out. I'm going to use pink in all four corners for continuity and use the same background for them. In fact I decided to use that background for all scallops as well [provided I remember where I got it from...no markings :( ... and I can get more]
I'll take a pic of the sashing fabric when I complete the kite.
Meanwhile, here is triangle RS3 [wk of Nov 25] .... if anyone is counting.... I am 13 tris and 7 blocks behind [but I have made 11 ahead of schedule ...still behind on the average!! and still hoping to be done ahead of schedule:shock:]
I posted two pics - one to show you that you can't make the top straight using two pieces at the top like thatquilt.com without tweaking the angle a bit, or you will end up with a sad looking Christmas tree silhouette rather than a triangle. I paper pieced most of it, save for the top diamond which I appliqued, as well as the top 1/2" or so of the bottom triangle. I did carefully cut that bottom triangle out adding exactly 1/4" seam, lined it up with the 1/4" seam line of the paper-pieced triangle section and stitch from 1/2" down from top to the bottom. I then flattened the whole thing right side down on the table gently without stretching to make sure I wasn't tweaking the opposite side of my large triangle, placed in one pin, held with my thumb and finger so that I could keep everything in place to sew down the other side... it is flat :)
nothing like giving a tip three months + later...

man!... back to writing long articles instead of short postings.... glad you like some of it or I will have to train my brain/hands to shut up

I haven't quite gotten to LS1 and BRC yet....but intend to do so tonight!!! I also looked at both Aunt Reen [http://auntreensquilts.blogspot.com/..._archive.html] and thatquilt.com's approach [http://thatquilt.blogspot.com/2010/05/ls-1.html] - I have decided to go with thatquilt's exactly. If you use their approach, the one thing to note is that the large piece is appliqued once the rest is pieced together [paper pieced]. The center white 'horseshoe' is one piece and extends upwards so it is easier to attach to the top section minus the piece to be appliqued. I'm not going to repeat the instructions, just thought I would clarify this a little for those who may question it.
See you tomorrow!! [I hope with something to show!]

3 kites sewn in. TLC to make and set. must have made TRC's outer star 3 times and still wasn't satisfied. got all done the last time, and said to myself, 'now that looks nice'. put it close to the main piece, and i had used the wrong pink. would you think i had something on my mind today?

My first kite, Bottom Right Corner. It looks plain. I didn't trim the bottom because I plan on having the scalloped edges and don't know if I'll have enough fabric already, or if I'd want to piece that on anyway. I was a little nervous trimming this without a special ruler.
My stack of completed blocks and tris! I've NEVER laid them out to look at them all together. (I did put many of them out when I was starting to think about sashing fabric.)

i love looking at all of your wonderfully done blocks. congrats on your progress. i'm afraid i'm just not going to be able to catch up. my move was going to be late august, but it looks like it will be the end of may instead. i'm happy about that, but have to turn to and get this house sparkling to sell and pack. and i still have to make a quilt for my sister's wedding in june. sigh...

well, here are B5, B6, and A12. none of them was easy, but that A12 was especially difficult for me. you'll have to use the gallop by method for looking at that one :)
