ckcowl 01-08-2012 11:31 AM

oh Ronda, i love your 'beach theme' blocks!
i love them all- it is amazing how they are all so different- but still all so stunning!
i'm loving this project!

whitepine 01-08-2012 11:43 AM

These blocks are great. It is hard to comment on each one because they are all great.

Here's this week's song to sew by :). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSt0NEESrUA

Rhonda, I thought of your beach quilt when I saw this fabric (dinosaur footprints). http://beautifulquiltfabric.com/inde...FaQbQgodiwFQnw

Thanks for this info. I didn't know about this when I wanted to use the dryer sheets. Glad you were paying attention when I asked about using the dryer sheets!

Here's my Alaska. It was so much easier than I thought. I am a fan of this method.

Mad Mimm 01-08-2012 05:05 PM

This is the coolest project! I am really enjoying seeing what everyone comes up with. This is quickly turning into my favorite thread! :D

PokerDiva 01-08-2012 05:10 PM

I would give you a thumbs up if I knew how. It sorta worked. Kind of a sad thumbs up though.

tomilu 01-08-2012 07:59 PM

The paisley makes the block; pretty!!!

rwquilts 01-08-2012 08:06 PM

That is cute fabric isn't it? :)

I'm behind the group but here is Alabama. I've never Paper Pieced before but enjoyed it. Hope the next ones goes easier as I get proficient at it.

PokerDiva.... This is the 1st problem I've had with Amazon..Yes, the box came directly from Amazon. The box was actually stamped by my post office "Received Damaged" and "Received Unsealed". So that tells me that Amazon sent it out with no tape on it to close the box. My Post Office at least put some tape on it to keep it together.

Yes, I was able to use it... Thank God...because I wanted to get started on my blocks. I'm already behind everyone.
No telling how long it would taken them to send me another book.

Everybody has made some fantastic blocks, love seeing the photos as everybody uses such different colours and fabrics. Have printed out the papers to make Alabama but due to other comitments this week I will be way behind everybody for the next couple of weeks.

Love that green batik; very pretty block. You are doing very well, Janet.

Mad Mimm 01-09-2012 06:54 AM

Janet that is a lovely block. I agree with Tomilu, I really like the green batik. Looks great with the purple. I am pretty new to PP too so we can muddle through it together! :D Great job!

I would like to do this over because it turned out way too plain, but guess I won't. :) I already did some sections over because there wasn't enough contrast so I'm not inclined to do it again.

It isn't plain! The contrast between the blues is great, and those light blue flowers makes this anything but plain. Very pretty block.

I agree, it's not plain. I don't see a thing wrong with it. Charge on to the next one!!

paintmejudy 01-09-2012 08:21 AM

Beautiful block, Janet - is that the green from Connecting Threads? If not, I have something very similar and use it sparingly as I don't have much left! You did a great job.

PokerDiva 01-09-2012 08:40 AM

I agree, I wouldn't do it over. I think is is pretty just the way it is and when you get your other blocks done you can see how it fits in and then decide.

Mad Mimm 01-09-2012 08:56 AM

Whitepine I agree with the other ladies. It is a very pretty block and I am sure it will find a home among the others. Charge on!!!

White pine, I agree. Wait until the end when you are putting things together, and see how it looks. If still too plain, you can always add blue corners in the same light blue, see her book on p. 18 for how she adds material to a 1/4 block. All you wold need to do would be to undo the seam allowence needed. Don't know why the picture wouldn'[t open, but just click on the link in the PM.

Good job on both, Sandy. There are the blues again, lol.

whitepine 01-09-2012 11:59 AM

Thanks guys for your input on my "plain" Alaska!! I will wait to evaluate.....on to the next! And I'm sure I'll have some very busy blocks to put it with. Thanks Judy for the input, those corners really add a lot of interest without a lot of work.

lfstamper 01-09-2012 12:00 PM

These are all sooo pretty!

Very pretty colors; good job! Reminds me of spring.

ckcowl 01-09-2012 03:35 PM

whitepine- your Alaska block is Wonderful! not plain at all- sometimes keeping it simple can make the most impact! you did a wonderful job on it- and it has plenty of contrast- don't feel you need to change a thing- it is just right-just the way it is :)

ckcowl 01-09-2012 03:40 PM

iwillquilt---oh my goodness! i LOVE,, LOVE, LOVE your Alaska block with the pink & roses-it is beautiful! and a great 'change'!

and whitepine---don't even think about changing anything about your block! it is Wonderful! there is plenty of contrast- it is a stunning block to be proud of---sometimes keeping it simple can make the biggest impact- your block has the impact.

all of the blocks just keep getting better & better...inspiring enough to keep us going for the duration! (i hope) i know i am inspired all over again every time i (drop by) to see the next one posted :)

Yes, Judy... (You have a good eye) I got a bunch of FQ's last year from them. Have not had the opportunity to use them till now. I'm liking this paper piecing, but it is time consuming... Working on Alaska now... with all those I'll be lucky got get it done by the weekend. (I work full time and currently working on 5 quilts.. (in one way or another) at one time. I think I'm nuts!

Finally got all my blocks done for the Boomerang swap so now I can start on these stars.

I am going to try and use mostly 30's prints so we'll see how it goes.

Here's my Alabama

By the way, is everyone leaving their papers on the back of their blocks until they are all finished?

whitepine 01-09-2012 09:13 PM

Iwillquilt.....Beautiful block! Love the colors.

Janet My...5 quilts at a time...I'm impressed.

ckcowl.....Thanks!

Moonwork...Very cute. I'm not leaving the paper on mine. She recommended leaving it on, didn't she. It seems to me that I can't really square up the block with the paper attached. I'll be interested on what others are doing and why.

whitepine.... You should not be impressed... I'm totally nuts... going to burn myself out doing this but I get board looking at one project. So I'm working on the 50 Stars, the BOM at Craftsy, a paper pieced Crazy Quilt of my parents clothes, completing a UFO that I tore apart (because my seams didn't match up), working on a Leader and Ender quilt of 1 1/2" squares, and collecting scraps of fabric from my paper pieced projects to do a confetti quilt. So actually, I'm working on 6 quilts. Oh dear, I am totally nuts.

Bobbiespann 01-10-2012 05:02 AM

I feel they can be done with two colors - just use different shades - it should work. Have made some of these stars - think I would like to try this - one per week is not bad.

Janet My 01-10-2012 05:06 AM

Bobbie, jump right in here anytime.... the Stars have have been amazing. Everyone has chosen different fabrics and there are some really beautiful ones.

PokerDiva 01-10-2012 06:03 AM

Moonwork. Great star. I take my paper off. Can't imagine doing the whole quilt at once. Too be perfectly honest, I take the paper off before I sew the parts of the block together. Makes it easier for me to match the seams up but that is just me.
