Well ck, I think hubby is just WWRROONNGG.

whitepine 07-21-2012 03:23 PM

Yay, I finished New Hampshire before New Jersey came around tomorrow. I'll pick up my missed Nebraska and Nevada along the way. Acually, life has caught up with me a bit and I'll be late or missing for quite a few until fall.

I've been back to visit family in Michigan for the last couple of weeks and wouldn't you know we hit record temperatures. Living in the pacific northwest didn't prepare me for that. CK, I was in your neck of the woods. First around Tawas, then Traverse City. Took a trip to the Soo, Tahq Falls and up to Whitefish point, which I'd never been to. Beautiful! No matter where I've lived, Lake Superior is alwas home.

I have just been reading through what I've missed. Re: plans on finishing: I am going to stagger mine, like the flag, with no sashing (maybe).

MonaLisa, Sick to death of stars How can that be? I'm not sick to death yet because I really like papter piecing, but I will definitely want a break by the end of the year.

My New Jersey

I'm getting so confused. I think this is the week for New Jersey. So here she is. I've made a decision on what I'm going to do with my blocks. I'm going to make 3 quilts out of them. One for my daughter, one for my son and one for me. This way I can spread these beautiful blocks around. And I can redo colors I've already done to coordinate each quilt better. The blocks that have just been posted are all beautiful. I don't think I've seen one block yet that wasn't.

Well, as usual, I'm a day (or week) late and a dollar short -- finally finished New Hampshire. The greens in the middle don't show up as the greens they really are, here they look grayed out, but I am happy with the finished product.

PokerDiva 07-22-2012 10:57 AM

Both blocks are beautiful and Katie, you are on the right week.

wvhill22 07-22-2012 11:23 AM

once again all beautiful. I will be back when you get to ohio. :)

Great job everyone!! I am back from Paris and started working on New Jersey last night. Up until yesterday I was too jet lagged to do much of anything. I am not sick of stars; like WhitePine I love paper piecing. However, I did decide that for the way I am joining my blocks I will only need 36. I may nevertheless finish the project with the group and use the extras for pillow shams or something.

PokerDiva 07-23-2012 08:33 AM

Nicky, I hope you had a wonderful time in Paris. Don't really know how you couldn't have. Welcome back.

polly13 07-23-2012 08:50 AM

We took our first ever trip to MI and temps. hit 105, 103 while there. Asked a friend if that was usual in the summer since I've never been there. He said not when he was growing up.

Patricia Faye 07-23-2012 03:34 PM

Everyone's blocks are beautiful. I love the colors...

Thank you Florence. I went with a girlfriend and we had a fabulous time, walking our fannies off sightseeing, and eating all my favorite foods!

Nicky, your block is wonderful. I can't wait to see your finished quilt.

Nicky, I see what you mean about the red and orange but hey I still like it too. You have some really pretty florals. When you get a couple of your QAYG blocks done please post them I would love to see them. Maybe I might go that way. Ck, your block is great too. Love the blue. I am with you. We are going camping next week and I am taking some applique with me. I have to have something in my hands at all times. LOL. OCD I think.

Florence, I will be sure and post as I do the QAYG. It won't be before all the blocks are done, though, so I can be sure of my placements. I am excited to get there. I have used her method before on a Hawaiian Shirts Quilt (http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...ed-t92847.html) and on a Tee shirt quilt (http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...d-t108249.html). The Star Quilt however will have a border around each block, made from the same fabric as the joining strips, so it won't show! It will just look like sashing.

PokerDiva 07-26-2012 07:14 AM

Your other quilts are wonderful Nicky. Can't wait to see this one.

Just for fun I exported my photos to Quilt Pro 5 for Mac and made a Virtual Quilt. Not sure at all about the sashing color, but it's just to get an idea. The blocks are in Alpha order for now but I can move them around.

Now that is a super idea. Why didn't I think about that....

I really feel it was a worthwhile investment. They have been great at targeting exactly what I need to be doing, educating me so I can do it without injuring myself, and giving me a ton of good support and encouragement. I would not try to fix a car without talking to a mechanic, and I would not fix my body without the help of a trained professional either. Totally worth every penny (and I spent a LOT of pennies! I bought a year's worth of appointments!)

Thanks for the support everyone! I am making great progress and as soon as possible, will have a blissful reunion with my sewing machine! :)

whitepine 07-27-2012 03:48 PM

Nicky, your virtual quilt looks great and I think the order is pretty darn good the way it is. The only one I would move is the yellow star, last in the third row. Looks like a neat program.

Thank you WhitePine. I see what you mean about the yellow block.

Yes the QP software is quite handy. I used it for the 2011 Houses BOM quilt and am tempted to share that virtual quilt. The real thing is being quilted as we speak. I did not have the courage to FMQ it as it is 90" x 90". I am trying to be patient but I am dying to show it!!!

Here are my lastest two blocks, New Mexico, which is where I live, and New York, which is where I will be next Sunday. So from that point on, I'm going to have to do a lot of catching up because we are putting laminate floors in my computer room, which will now be my sewing room. So won't be posting pictures for a little while. But I'll catch up.

Here is my New Mexico block. First of all, the fabric would have been better for Louisiana, but I only got it the other day in Paris, long after I had done Louisiana. I suppose I could just inverse the names and no one would know besides you all. The print is too big for these blocks but I could not resist using it. I may however unstitch the four sections and put them back together so that the orange feathers are opposite and not on the same side. Other than all that, it's okay for me and I will use it!

PokerDiva 07-29-2012 12:30 PM

Nicky, what wonderful fabric. Hard to believe it came from Paris and not New Orleans. My focus fabric is too large for the stars also but I am still using it.

Nice NM blocks everyone. Nicky, your fabric from Paris is goergous. Wish mine had a little more pizzazz, like the outer leaves in orange. Oh well, it will tone down some others.

Florence, that is gorgeous. I love your fabrics! I tried to be too busy with summer, but our toy hauler had some issues the first day out on our way to Sturgis. We turned back and came home! So now I have time to make blocks again.
