Is it me or am I just getting senile, I thought this BOM didn't start until June, I have not gotten all of my stuff together for this quilt yet, I hope people are just jumping ahead and my brain is still working :-D :-D

Butterflyspain 05-10-2011 10:09 PM

You are okay we just jumped the gun a bit. Doesnīt start officially till June, but if you start on a block its just addictive.

d.rickman 05-10-2011 10:55 PM

Elle, it is quicker to unpick than to stitch it up. I'm finding I can complete a block a day when I don't have distractions...

sandpat 05-11-2011 06:09 AM

Oh yes, Donna....I like this one better too! I liked the 1st one, it was quite lovely, but the addition of the purple just makes it sing!

My block

JudyG 05-12-2011 09:06 AM

Jane, your block is beautiful. I love the way your machine applique turned out. Makes each piece look nice and crisp. Gorgeous.

Butterflyspain 05-12-2011 09:11 AM

Lovely block Jane, like that green fabric.

d.rickman 05-12-2011 12:07 PM

Jane - Beautiful Block!!! OMG your handwork is beautiful, as Judy says nice and crisp - as good as machine stitching - I'm green with envy.

Mousie 05-12-2011 12:58 PM

 love it!

janeknapp 05-12-2011 01:33 PM

Just so you know...my only handwork is the yellow stem stitch. I do machine applique. I use "applique fiber" which is glued around the edges with Elmer's washable school glue (same as Roxanne’s Glue Baste-It) onto the back of the fabric. Glue is also used in the seam allowance and turned under. Then it is pressed with a hot iron which dries the glue. It is tacked down with dots of glue in the seam allowance into position. I use clear monofilament thread to machine blanket stitch. After all pieces are stitched, the block is soaked in water for 20 minutes and rinsed. The fiber which was stiff is now soft. It is left in. You would not know it is there. I love it. I haven't learned to do needle-turn, so this is the only way I can get good results.

The applique fiber I use is sold here : http://ww2.brickmart.com/index.php?m...98d2bc646d210f

Sharon Schamber calls her product applique stabilizer: http://www.sharonschamber.com/shoppi...ccessories.htm

Both cost $3 a yard.

sandpat 05-12-2011 05:10 PM

Jane, how interesting. I'm so glad you told us your technique..I was really trying to figure it out! I enlarged your block to huge to look closely...It looks fabulous! I'll have to check into the applique fiber.

d.rickman 05-12-2011 05:49 PM

Thanks for sharing that information. Will have to try that, anything that makes my curves looks better.

janeknapp 05-12-2011 08:36 PM

I forgot to tell you that when using applique fiber you should prewash the applique fabric but not the background. The theory is...when soaked after machine stitching, the background will shrink slightly and pull the stitching on the applique under ever so slightly resembling hand applique. Judy Rohret who sells this fiber on the website, When Quilts Fly, always uses wool batting which gives the applique a trapunto look. I use wool and love it but haven't used it with this technique yet.

Butterflyspain 05-12-2011 09:59 PM

So many great ideas coming up on this. Will be inerested to see how this all comes together

sandpat 05-13-2011 04:43 AM

I agree Elle, I love learning about all the different ways to do something, makes it FUN!

Butterflyspain 06-08-2011 07:10 AM

Very pretty, Elle. Love both those pink fabrics. I remember enjoying the work on this one - not a scroll to be found!

Butterflyspain 06-08-2011 08:11 AM

I did enjoy it too, those scrolls are beginning to be a bit of a bind arenīt they, however I will plod on, so glad I enlarged my blocks. I was speaking to Topaz Spain and she showed me a block where she embroidered the scroll, you know, Inever noticed till she pointed it out.
