I would like to do this too. What materials are required. Do I need to get the book and CD? If not, which would be best to have? Do I need special rulers?

I am glad that I decided to search out 2012 BOM's....I bought all of my DJ stuff from Brenda back in 1999/2000!
Now, ask me how many blocks I have made???...dare ya...

I think I have 5! I have also reworked my fabric layout...it is ALL CW repro's now, at first it was whatever I had on hand. THen when I moved, I decided to start over and use only CW repro's.
I am just itching to work on this quilt. BUT there is never a group close to me doing it! SOOO..I guess I will have to do with my online buds!

what background are you all going with???...I have a bolt of tea dyed muslin, but after seeing the Chocolate Jane posted here earlier this summer, I am thinking of going with a darker brown...it is stunning!...of course now I can also order an "aged" brown muslin..sigh..too many choices...

where can i get all the things to start this quilt fabric, patterns etc?

I bought my book years ago when I was in Vermont but it is available at Amazon.com. I ordered the CD (which I think is the most helpful) from The Electric Quilt Company.com. I also ordered the 2 recommended rulers from on-line. You can google and see which site has the best price. I believe that I ordered mine from either Soft Expressions or Joann.com. You can also buy your fabric on line if you don't have a LQS. I have my background fabric but I am planning on using some of my scraps for the blocks. I can't wait to get started.

I have noticed, since the board has had the changes, any threads that I had previously joined - are not coming through to me when any further additions to that thread (including this one) are posted - so just wanted to confirm that I am looking forward to joining you all.

I have skipped thru and read some of your posts. This one is on my bucket list, just not this year. To this end I have found a couple of sites that may prove useful. I will watch and see all your progress.

I'm doing mine on a white background - was going to go the traditional civil war repro route until I saw the DJ quilt using Kaffe Fassett fabrics at the green fairy blog.. which confused me. I love the quilting there too.

To answer a few questions - I have the book which I bought first I think at Jo-Anns, then bought the software from Brenda Papadakis through her website @ http://www.dearjane.com. I think I remember purchasing the rulers @ softexpressions.com - or it may have been amazon?? you just need to google it and will find best price.

I am told that the software is best because you can preview colors, print templates. The book doesn't give you any directions - you really do need to follow a blog for pointers - the ones mentioned again by dakotamaid I have brought up somewhere on this thread as well. We will also discuss & trade advice on some of the 'how-to' You do need either the book or the software. I have the rulers but have not tried using them yet. The people that have the rulers love them.

I've been going over the schedule for the last cyber block party for DJ - she had only one beginner block the first four weeks and 2 advanced ones and the last two weeks were all beginner blocks & triangles! I know a few of you have started and also that a few are popping in to support us from the first DJ group so I am putting a question out there to you...

I marked all 'beginner' and 'advanced' blocks [according to Brenda] with different colors on page 12 of the DJ book [diagram of all blocks.] The first 2 rows [A & B] contain 11 beginner blocks and only 2 advanced blocks. The remaining 13 are considered intermediate.
The lower section - rows I through K - also contain quite a few beginner blocks. I'm thinking these may be good areas to start and I will also work an entire row or two until they are complete rather than scattering all over the quilt. This way we can start sewing blocks together if we want to. How does this sound?

I don't want us to do all of the beginner blocks at the start, but I don't think we should be 'heavy' on advanced blocks either.
