I know a few of you have started and also that a few are popping in to support us from the first DJ group so I am putting a question out there to you...

I marked all 'beginner' and 'advanced' blocks [according to Brenda] with different colors on page 12 of the DJ book [diagram of all blocks.] The first 2 rows [A & B] contain 11 beginner blocks and only 2 advanced blocks. The remaining 13 are considered intermediate.
The lower section - rows I through K - also contain quite a few beginner blocks. I'm thinking these may be good areas to start and I will also work an entire row or two until they are complete rather than scattering all over the quilt. This way we can start sewing blocks together if we want to. How does this sound?

I don't want us to do all of the beginner blocks at the start, but I don't think we should be 'heavy' on advanced blocks either.

sounds like a good plan to me. i think if we can start of with some begginers then go to intermediates then an advanced or 2 that should let everyone get a feel for what they are up against. if you want i can pm you a list of those i have already done with my take on how hard they were for me to do.

I agree with you Gus, maybe you could start with one of the 1st 2 rows, then do the the lower section...then finish up with the 2nd of the easy rows. Reasoning is that when you get that close to the end...you just want to fly through the blocks/tris to be able to finish it up. Looking forward to them being "easy" ones makes it more exciting. well....thats JMHO. I for sure would not start out with loads of "advanced" blocks....you will have all skill levels playing and you want everyone to hang with the project! :)

OK ladies...
Just lost about three paragraphs of instructions.....ugh!! tried to look at another page - here goes again!

after surfing this new board I have located some things that will make life easier - many of us have this and other threads saved as bookmarks and subscriptions and used to get regular notifications. Unfortunately, although we are still subscribing to these threads and still have the same bookmarks, we fail to receive notifications. When you click on "settings" - a column will appear on the left side with various links. When you click on "subscriptions" you will notice that all of your notifications column near the right will state "none" for those threads you receive no notifications. This is how to fix:

1. At the top of a thread - above the first post you will find "thread tools search thread display" - click on thread tools and click "unsubscribe" - the page will reload.
2. Do this again - but this time click "subscribe" and a new page will appear asking you to determine your notification options - do you want to receive emails immediately, daily, weekly?? I chose daily myself because although I want to know when a post has been added, I dont want to be inundated with emails!
3. You also decide whether you want it bookmarked or in subscriptions [I dont really understand the difference - sorry will let you know - I simply said subscription here]
4. Click on add subscription and once again the page of the thread will reload
5. At this point you can click on "subscriptions" in the left column again and your chosen method of notification should have replaced the "none" YAY YAY!!

Also - I prefer having more posts per page rather than more pages - so I changed my general settings - this is found several lines below the "subscription" link in your settings. Click on General Settings - this will open up a huge bit of information and you can change several things to suit you. I changed the number of posts per page to 20 - but you can have more or less or leave it as the forum default.

Hope this helps all of you!!
Gus

Thanks Cre8, I didn't know I could change the number of posts per page.

This is the list of members I have so far who have expressed an interest. I had actually missed a few during the changeover. Now that I have a better handle on things, I should be ok - could you all make sure your name is listed and if not - just post or send me a PM [no need to confirm if you are there]

Thanks for starting the DJ group. I've been in a local DJ group and we are kind of stalled now. We meet because we enjoy each others company. We're working on a couple Quilts of Valor and learning how to knit socks! Imagine that! I'm hoping I will be able to keep up with 3 blocks/week. That might be a bit ambitious but I'll try.

Add me to the interested list. I started with the original group, last one month, packed everything up to moved back stateside and need to unpack it again. I started with 30's repros and white, but may change it to variations of pinks, browns, and creams.

I didn't know there was a cross stitch pattern for this quilt. The whole quilt?! I'd love to see that.:)

Well, glory be! I just read all 13 pages & feel so inspired & pumped to join in. I've had the book for ages, (in fact I even have the cross stitch pattern, my other passion), but haven't had the "nerve" to start. I will join in but like many others I'm not sure if I'll be able to do 3/week. I'll have a better idea once we start.
Thank you Cre8 for starting this up. And I look forward to lots of fun & support from the group!
