Here i have done a Sunbonnet Sue. Can't say it was very hard but i was bullied into doing it and my Mum hanging over me all the way through lol.

I was going to opt out of doing this one but i wasn't allowed to

Karenmay 02-03-2008 01:24 PM

Well done Donna...I knew you could do it! (can I put the whip away now?)

Yvonne 02-03-2008 01:24 PM

Sue and Bill turned out great. I love Sue's dress and bonnet fabrics. She looks just like a sweet little girl for sure. Bill is all farm boy! Really like his gingham shirt.

Good bullying Karanmay! Now, where's your Sue?

patricej 02-03-2008 01:26 PM

Karenmay 02-03-2008 01:38 PM

Chele 02-03-2008 01:44 PM

donna anne, your mum's whip worked wonders! I may have to borrow her! Those are adorable! I love polka dots and gingham! Make a quilt with more of them!

Karenmay 02-03-2008 02:01 PM

The whip is here if you need it Chele!! I dont have to bring it out very often.....just if they look as if they're giving up on something!!....We dont DO giving up!! LOL!

Those Sue and Bill blocks are way cool  and so fast too

DebJ 02-03-2008 06:24 PM

Do you think it would be alright to makeup our own bad or good Sunbonnet Sue design? I am tempted to try that.

Yvonne 02-03-2008 06:25 PM

Oh, please do. I think that will make this months blocks a lot more fun and definitely more creative. Go for it! I can hardly wait to see what you come up with.

newquiltertoni 02-03-2008 06:59 PM

Nice job Donna and I got your pm. I am going to attempt this! I may try tomorrow. I think it would take more than a glass of wine to make me crazy enough to attempt Bill too. Yours look great though.

donna anne 02-04-2008 12:56 AM

Thats great Toni. I know you will do a great job.

Thank you, Donna Anne. Your polka dots and checks are a match made in Heaven! I have been doing some embroidery and I'm afraid my "Sweet Sue" is turning into a "Bad Sue".

Ok this really stinks. It was a combined effort from me and hubby. This is as good as we could get it so didn't go any further so that we wouldn't ruin it. He did the stitching because I couldn't but we couldn't get it mastered. Anyway I attempted it.

P.S. The heart is for you Chele... :D

PamH 02-04-2008 02:58 PM

Toni you did good!!!!

Marcella 02-04-2008 03:03 PM

Way to go, Toni and Hubby!! She's utterly charming and deee-lightful! Who could resist a Valentine Sue!

jamsbuying 02-04-2008 03:07 PM

Love that your husband is interested and is helping! Great block.

Yvonne 02-04-2008 03:11 PM

Toni,
Thank you for trying. Your Sue is cute and you'll think so too in a day or so. Step away from Sue and let her grow on you.

The first time I tried to do applique I asked my sister, Marcella, to teach me. After 2 minutes I told her I wasn't meant to applique and quit! I really didn't want to quit but I just couldn't get it. She was teaching me needle turn.

A few years later I discovered I could use wonder-under and basically color with fabric and that was the first time I actually enjoyed the applique process. And now I can even do needle turn. It's not my favorite but I can do it!

I'm so happy you've made Sue. I am very proud of you and I predict in a few months you'll try it again. Remember, never say never!

P.S. What a sweet husband you have. My husband will barely step into the sewing room!

P.P.S At least your block is done. I'm just starting mine!

Chele 02-04-2008 04:36 PM

Go Toni (and hubby)! I think it turned out adorable. And you went above and beyond the pattern with the heart! Very cute. I knew you could do it. :D

Since this is your first applique, you may want to have a glass of wine first. Just kidding.

KarenMary and Donna Anne, you ladies did great and I love seeing your Sue and Bill all finished.

I knew you would come through with a "Dirty Sue" karenmay! Great job on both.

Marcella, you too! Where's the embroidered poop Sue left? :D

quiltmaker101 02-05-2008 09:19 AM

These are all too cute!

Karenmay, your Sue is dressed too nice to go to a pub! Is she trying to fool her parents? Tell them she's off to church or something?

Chele - I LOVE IT! What a great idea to clean out the fabric shop!

Good job!

marieg 02-05-2008 09:32 AM

Your wild and crazy Sue in the fabric shop is terrific!

Is it really bad to clear out the fabric shop so more new fabric has room? I think she might be "Good Sue!"

Tiffany 02-05-2008 12:26 PM

Chele - that turned out amazing!
