I'm not done yet..I needed a plastic case to put some stuff in and when I opened it there was some fabric aleady in it..Guess What???? 3 more 30's fabrics..I am about to burst!!! I've been giggling & talking to myself about my find..

katybob 08-22-2015 04:44 AM

Love those reds, Honchey! They'll fit right in with your other 30's fabric.

Honchey 08-22-2015 07:52 AM

I almost cried when I saw the Scottie fabric.. My Shamus was with us for 13 years, 3mos & 10 days....

oksewglad 08-22-2015 10:41 AM

What a treat to find...makes your fabric choices more special..

Pam P 08-22-2015 06:56 PM

Ok, I have a question about the Anne block. I noticed when I made mine that it did not look quite like the one in the book. The difference that I found was that in the top left quadrant of the block, the 'pinwheel' piece closest to the center line has the flat side up in the book and mine has the point up. So they are off in that manner all the way around. So I looked at everyone else's block and all but QNS have the same configuration. I think I know why it happens but it this an example of one that should be a reverse image? Not sure I would know how to fix it. And my outer rings had trouble lining up too. I am going to remake it tomorrow to see if I can do it better. I hope this isn't too confusing. I have trouble sometimes conveying what I mean, I can see it, I just can't say it. : /

TPr9258 08-22-2015 08:16 PM

One lucky girl, the one with the most fabric wins lol

QuiltingNinaSue 08-23-2015 05:23 AM

Pam, you are right on with the mirrow image in Anne...I finally started on number two of Anne, tracing the templates on the right side of the fabric, then goofed by trying to sew it on the off side of the paper piecing pattern...on one quarter, so I put it aside. Pattern showed me to see it on the black side of the pp side not the under side as it changed the pattern again, reversing it. My one eye has a problem with that. Good luck with yours....and you were wise to look at everyone else's Anne block.

katybob 08-23-2015 05:32 AM

You're right, Pam. I never would have noticed it, but it may be more obvious in other blocks. I just attempted to print the block in reverse image or mirror image and discovered that I have neither option on my printer. I know I've done it before, but maybe only when using EQ6 or Dear Jane software, which is an EQ product.

katybob 08-23-2015 05:47 AM

And speaking of Anne, did you all see this thread a couple of days ago? It's Anne!
http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...s-t269017.html

Pam P 08-23-2015 07:17 AM

Thanks ladies. So do you think reversing the image is the answer? The block looks fine as it is as you can see with everyone's blocks but I also wondered if that had anything to do with outer ring pieces not lining up well.

Pam P 08-23-2015 10:28 AM

I printed the paper piecing templates. Scanned them to my computer and used Windows to reverse the image, no problem, but I cannot get the size right.

QuiltingNinaSue 08-23-2015 10:56 AM

The pattern does not reverse itself and fit properly... if you use the template pattern, on the right side of the fabric, then use the right side of the pp...paper piecing... and it will fit. I had to use my surgical pins to pin it each time to get the fabric in the right place to fold over properly.. . the second piece in from the center gave me the worst problems... so I would stick a pin in on where the seam line was, fold it over and check to see if that was where the seam should go, or adjust it a bit, and then sew it on. if it still gives you a problem, Pam, I will take a picture of what I am saying and post or send it to you. Printer to be set at 'actual size' or no sizing to print the right size.

Pam P 08-23-2015 11:02 AM

Thanks QNS. I think I may have found a way. I remembered I have a brand new light box, I printed the templates for paper piecing and am tracing them in reverse. I will let you know how that works out. Seems easier for me.

katybob 08-23-2015 11:18 AM

I think I'm going to have to do the same thing, Pam. Frustrating!

Pam P 08-23-2015 11:37 AM

Well the light box tracing went well so now I will sew the blocks and let you know how they turn out.

QuiltingNinaSue 08-23-2015 01:22 PM

I use a light box on all pp... its my machine Sew through platform and an under the counter cheap underneath light that creates the 'light box'. I still pin each piece before I sew, to prevent ripping out the seam. Good luck on the block ladies!

Ok, here is the finished Anne. Not perfect but I am happy with it. It turned out better than the first one.

katybob 08-23-2015 03:57 PM

It looks great, Pam. My son just went through the steps with me of getting a mirror image of a pdf document and it's way more complicated than simply following your lead and tracing it. Of course, I could spend $400 for the full Adobe program to get the capability -- not!

Pam P 08-23-2015 04:33 PM

Thanks katybob. It didn't take long to trace it. This will be my method of choice if I have to do it again. Cool thing is I bought that lightbox a long time ago and never used it. Glad I had it.

Been out, now I am trying to figure out where we are?? can someone tell me the blocks that was due this last week??
Thanks.

Rosyhf 08-23-2015 05:05 PM

I got back from my trip last week and was looking for week 2 and couldn't find it and I was doing the happy dance thinking I was not behind. I got sick so I had to rest. Then today I found this thread. I thought we were doing all the blocks in one thread. Now I found the third week thread and I am behind for real now lol......

Never mind, I will get caught up. I love all the blocks. The April block seems a bit weird, it doesn't make sense like most blocks do. I might not do that one and do another.

Finished these up today. I'm doing better at the paper piecing than I am at transferring my pictures. And since I updated to Windows 10, I'm just having a heck of a time with my camera and pictures. So This is the best I can do.
My blocks are actually square, I figure by the time I get all these done, I'll have a quilt and I'll know how to use this Win10.

katybob 08-23-2015 06:18 PM

Rosy, I thought April looked a little weird, too, but it was a pretty easy one compared to some of the others.

Love your pink, Klgreene. And all your points and seams match perfectly!

QuiltingNinaSue 08-23-2015 06:28 PM

Goood job, Pam. And Klgreene. Nice colors and style in your blocks. After a sigh of relief, remember Tuesday will come with the new blocks to post for this next week. :)

Thanks for the link...isn't that a pretty scrap quilt? I wonder if it is larger than the 6" blocks you guys are sewing.

Gayle's Quilts 08-24-2015 03:25 AM

Thank You Jeanie for the up date. I thought I was behind ,,, but I am ok..

I am now up to date!! Mine are at 6 1/2..

Beautiful blocks, ladies. Love the pastels and the different appearance that color gives to the same block.

huskyquilter 08-24-2015 04:35 AM

Well, I did finish both this weekend, but I'm really not liking how my april turned out at all, and I mixed up the placement of some of the colors on the little checkerboards. Rosy, I agree, the fact that it's not symmetrical is weird to me. I'm gonna take another crack at it and hope it comes together a little better, if not, well, time to move on. :) But, I figured since Aunt is so easy this week, taking a bit of extra time to try April again.

Honchey 08-24-2015 04:55 AM

Wonderful blocks Gayle, So glad to see them....

In am working on April this morning and like I said before it didn't make sense to me. I need to see something ( I don't know lol) I pulled it into EQ and made a few changes, now it makes sense to me. What do you think...Just add a few lines.

Pam P 08-24-2015 07:20 AM

That's interesting. When you go back to the block after seeing this, it makes you wonder if the pieces are out of order.

Pam P 08-24-2015 07:27 AM

Never mind what I just said. You had to add more lines than I thought . I wouldn't know how to do that anyway lol.

katybob 08-24-2015 08:39 AM

Much better, Rosy. It's those rectangles next to the flying geese (or whatever they are) with the same fabric that looks strange, and just moving the fabric around doesn't work.

Rosyhf 08-24-2015 08:46 AM

You know, sometimes I think when the book goes to the printer it makes a mistake on some of the graphics. I don't have a lot of experience with EQ but I love that I can do a few things in it. I just learned what I need to learn lol. I learned how to erase a line and how to add one and how to export a block and how to color it so I can see how it will look.

Also, I love my block base. I find the block in there first, then open it in EQ and print the size I want. I just love to make the bigger blocks, 10 inch blocks for this quilt. I like the look of the smaller blocks but can only do so many before I tear my hair out lol.

oksewglad 08-24-2015 10:58 AM

LOL where because I was thinking of making this block with 1" cuts for the 9P's...The 9P's do not use the same fabrics in all the corners...when you put it on point you see a new angle which I really like.

TPr9258 08-24-2015 12:23 PM

Question ladies, do u press to one side or through center splitting seams and do y press each time after you see or when block is complete,

katybob 08-24-2015 12:41 PM

I generally press to one side unless I have a lot of seams meeting in the middle of something like a pinwheel, then I press the seams open. I always press as I sew each seam. When I'm paperpiecing, I keep an iron on a covered TV tray right next to me.
