When you part the seam and press it each way, it weakens the seam, but sometimes is necessary to do it that way. Although I keep an iron on my right side and table on the left as I sit, I never press until I complete the block. Instead, I will finger press the seams. The back of the 'Y' seam I pressed open, in the center and others one way. Hope this answers your question. If multiple points are meeting, I do not sew the last quarter inch like Honchey has shown in her hints. It will 'spin' around and not cause a lump in the center.

I finished my two blocks for week 3. Now I'll go back and catch up on week two. I am feeling so much better today. Anne is really Crazy anne so I made her a gypsy with many colors....
O, Rosyhf, your blocks are always a delight to see. A delightful vivid lively Anne, much like our esteem leader, who is also called Anne.
Rosy - love your pinwheel! It is the first multi-colored I have seen - amazing! I'm anxious to see what you do with the rest of your blocks.
Rosy, love the way you think outside the box! Love your blocks!
Thanks ladies, I just finished one of my week 2 blocks and now I better rest lol. I am enjoying this so much. I wish now that I had switched to 10 inch blocks with the first FW that Honchey did, I still might go back to that thread and do it anyway as soon as I feel 100%.
BTW, I look at all the lovely blocks before I start mine lol.....Everybody blocks are just awesome.
Ok, I officially do not like the block April. It started with the design and then I switched two of the sides and it really doesn't look like anything now. I am going to do it over and maybe switch some of the pieces around. Ugh : (
Pam that is exactly how I felt. It just didn't make sense to me like the other blocks do.

Oh, I love your Anne, Rosy! Pam, I agree, I'm redoing April as well, someday! Here is my Anne. Went back to the pastel aqua and grey this week. Next two will be back to brights. :)

Oh I like that color combination Husky, perfect sewing.
Me too, I love those two colors together.
I agree with Rosy and Pam - just love those soothing colors!
Wonderful block & colors Husky.:)
huskey quilter, Do you have enough of your gray/aqua fabric to make the whole quilt? I'm not real keen on snakes and lizards, but the designer sure made a nice print with them!

Redid my April block tonight. Much happier with it. Now I just have to redo Augusta then I will be caught up.
Lovely, Pam; just lovely.
Thanks QNS, I just had to step away from it for a day or two and try again. I have been cutting my fabric using the templates this time and am wasting a LOT less.

I just love the 'stack and whack' quilts! I'd like to make one someday. Anne was a good block for doing that method, but I had to change the pattern to re-size the inner triangles so they were the same size. The flash washed out the color, in true life it's a bit richer looking, but it's late and time for bed, so I'll just post it without taking a better one. :-p Only one more block until I will be caught up! :-) This block made me think of my mother, who is named Anne. She is some years gone, but I believe I'll see her again one day.
I love those red, pink, grey colors together!

One other thing I have to rave about in regard to Hawthorne is that they are located in Upstate NY, and all their fabric designs are printed in their shop here. I love supporting USA and/or locally made products and their customer service is exceptional. :) If you haven't gotten anything from them, give them a try. I'm completely in love with their Coyote line of fabric. I bought the panel, but haven't decided how to use it yet, although I have some ideas ruminating.
Huskyquilter, Oh my, oh my! I don't need that link! I'll be in the poorhouse! Wow, some great designs there.

Here is my second April. I guess I just don't like her much because I still hate it. :( Anyway, moving on.
This block may be just the one you need when you are putting the quilt top together...don't count it out yet...look at it from a distance and you can see how nicely the white star emerges...
I agree. I didn't like my first one either but after the redo I was better able to see the pattern emerge and I still love your fabrics. So pretty!

OK have to admit I like the fabric but not the square, doesn't help when u run out of fabric 3/4 the way through it, so the confused block becomes more confused, but my thoughts not quilt isever perfect, and no one but me will ever pay that much attention to each block lol
This one was pretty easy but question is the outer circle really supposed to connect? |
I really like your color choices for April. The understudied fabrics seem to work better with the super busy piecing, and you nailed it. I don't think the outer circle was supposed to connect. That coral is so pretty. :)
I thought April was kind of an odd block--I like symmetry and this one is "off". I love the colors in your blocks and they show off the pattern nicely. Remember--there are 90+ blocks in this project so some of the ones you don't like will be sort of hidden in among the other blocks. Not all blocks can be Rock Stars--some have to be the Back-up Singers (think Gladys Knight & The Pips)--some blocks are just the Pips. Am I showing my age???
Well! I, for one, love Teri's 'Pip'. lol
no not showing your age, JanRN, I remember them well, as I am sure most of the ladies on here, lol, although never really heard them described as parts of the quilt, lol, thanks to all of you for the continuing encouragement with my squares, really starting to enjoy this pp alot,
I'm from Michigan. People in Michigan, whatever their age, ought to know about the Motown greats. :-) But! With education, there often seems to be selective history lessons...

Like some others here, I didn't want to make the block with the prints like in the book, so I rearranged them. I used a 30's fabric. The selvedge says 'Sewing circles of the 30's & 40's by Brackman & Thompson "The Firefly Club" for moda.'
Trisha, that fabric is darling and the changes are spot on! (Now I'm tempted to make mine over.)
Love that fabric and the redesign looks better too!
I think I have some of that fabric with the 2 kids....Guess I should see if I can find it...don't have much 30's fabric...cute fabric....cute block...givio...
slowly progressing in my sewing space as I go through bits and pieces....it's taken me soooo long to place my sewing table, cutting table and ironing board along with my fabric storage...now that I have it the way I like it I'm trying to make sense of my scraps |

Here are my Anne and April blocks. I don't think I chose fabrics very well for the April... I didn't have a solid blue dark enough to stand out and my blue and white print is too large. But... it's done.
I LOVE the Anne block! When I found this thread to post my pictures I was so tickled that I had used the same yellow duck fabric as klgreene in our April blocks. |
Sewbizgirl those two blocks are so pretty. I had read where you were starting with the beginning blocks, and then I seen your name on this weeks. Last night I printed out about 20 of the beginning ones to at least put in my notebook, and then when I can work on one here and there too, but I am a slow one. I enjoy reading back and seeing everyone's blocks at the beginning of the quilt along. Each block always amazes me. :)

sewbizgirl, I like your arrangement of the prints and the light blue pieces. It really gives the block pattern a different look. I did mine so long ago-- is that the way it was arranged in the book? I'll have to check that out again. :-) Obviously, I did mine different. Sometimes if they are not symmetrical in the book, then I think I don't like them and change the fabrics around to my liking, but then when I see someone else's block, I think, "oh, that's nice!" lol
