Great blocks, Honchey and QNS! The letter in the alphabet that goes after "L" is not working on this keyboard. It's quite a challenge to use words that don't have that letter in it. Off to the office supply store!

Goodness, those are big pictures! I saved these a different way than before. I'll fiddle with the next ones.

So many pretty blocks, love all the color combinations.

Some of these blocks I use a seam ripper more than I want to. It seems to be an extension of my hands.

Pam P 09-01-2015 09:09 AM

Pretty blocks! I enjoyed these making these two blocks. For some reason my blocks keep failing the upload. will keep trying.

Wow! Really amazing to see everyone's skills improving week to week! Pam, I LOVE your autumn. Katy, that bright green is so perfect!

Well, I was pretty discouraged yesterday, just feeling so far behind and unhappy with how things are turning out. Today, I'm pretty much back on the horse and excited. I'm still chugging along on my April redo, and finishing up last weeks. My bosses are out of town this week, so I don't have a lot of work to do during the day. Today has been nice. I hand sewed a bit on Augusta (just need to press and I can start joining sections). My second version of Aunt just has the two long seams. I have my fingers crossed I can finish up these three tonight...

Fabric for Autumn and Ava is cut and hoping to get some piecing started on those two tonight, and fingers crossed for a finish on Autumn and Ava tomorrow night.

Pam P 09-01-2015 11:45 AM

Don't be discouraged. I am only caught up because I am going out of town for a week and will be behind again shortly lol. I am still trying to find my 'rhythm' for keeping up with the blocks each week. I had to spend Friday night and all day Saturday to get to this point. My family is not used to me being on my sewing machine this much. It is more than I have ever done. But I am determined to make this quilt for me, learn all the things I can do with my machine, and I am going to finish this no matter what, even if I get way behind. Hang in there, I want us to cross the finish line on this quilt.

I am surprised about how much I am learning from these blocks!

huskyquilter 09-01-2015 12:21 PM

Pam, thanks for the encouragement, it really does help. I agree, it's hard to figure out a good workflow for these since they are all so different. I'm kind of getting there I think. I now use the templates to cut my fabric, then have two envelopes, one with fabric and pp templates, and another with the cutting templates and extra scraps. That way, if I make a mistake, I have the scraps handy to get what I need on the spot.

But then... the bobbin runs out.

Pam P 09-01-2015 12:35 PM

I'm learning a lot too Sweet. I am also now using the templates to cut my fabric. I just didn't get it when I was reading how the others described it and then one day it clicked for me. I waste a LOT less fabric now. Saturday night I printed half of the templates and cut them out. I am keeping them in the notebook. I am thinking I might take my notebook and box of 1930s fabric on my vacation and choose my fabrics for as many blocks as I can. That way I won't get very far behind. I think I will have enough time in the evenings to do it.

Beautiful blocks, ladies. I love all the bright colors and your small prints are perfect for these blocks. Please Pam & Husky don't get discouraged--there are easier blocks ahead. When we did the first 2 FWS quilts I was working full time. Now I'm a lady of leisure and can sew all day if I choose. Know what though?? I was more organized and productive when I was working. Now I seem to waste time because I can always do it "later".

givio 09-01-2015 01:07 PM

Honchey, your blocks are perfection every week!!!
So fun seeing everyone's blocks, same pattern, yet so different.
Katybob, your Ava is gorgeous. That flower print is icing on the cake. :-)
I love 30's fabric-- and these little 6" blocks work very well with their prints, don't they? (janRN, we posting the same thought at the same time!)

CookyIN 09-01-2015 02:38 PM

Wow ladies, your blocks just keep getting better and better! I love how the design changes due to the colors and prints being used.

Here are my blocks for the week...I skipped the next few blocks (I only need around 70 for the size quilt I want) so won't be posting new pics, but will definitely be enjoying every one else blocks. :)

Rosyhf 09-01-2015 05:28 PM

Om you guys are putting out some beautiful blocks. I better get on the stick.

I finished my Autumn, I don't know if I like it...but it will have to do lol.

JeanieG 09-01-2015 08:17 PM

Rosy, it is very bright - great job!

givio 09-01-2015 08:45 PM

JeanieG, I have that purple and green print you used in Ava. I've always liked that print and have used it several times. I probably have a scrap of it left somewhere. Doesn't it look nice with your purple and green!

JeanieG 09-01-2015 09:47 PM

givio - I have a Moda Bella Solids Color Chart. It makes it so easy to match the solid colors I need with my print. Love it!

katybob 09-02-2015 04:11 AM

Rosy, I love that block!

huskyquilter 09-02-2015 04:47 AM

I love all of the brights this week! JanRN, you are a master of color!

Honchey 09-02-2015 06:14 AM

Hi Everyone, I've been a little busy with all the guild projects I've volunteered for here in NC.. I made a fall wall quilt years ago and have decided to let them hang it in the Clubhouse for the season..

I am so happy we have a great bunch of gals doing this quilt along.. Love all the colors & pattern designs.. I plan on having another sew-in day..it's too hot to go out...I still haven't decided on the "perfect white on white for this project.. Hoping some of the local shops email about sales for Labor Day next week.

I'm off to redo Becky for next week and maybe grab an easy one so I won't get behind in the future. I have a lot on my plate right now so I better get to it..

janRN 09-02-2015 08:36 AM

Master of color? Thank you!! Picking colors is the hardest part of these blocks for me. My entire wardrobe is navy--never wear colorful clothes so I make up for it in my quilts LOL. Thanks all for the compliments.

Anne, I found the nicest (and I think perfect) white on white: Moda Crackle White on White. I also use the Moda Crackle black on black. Most of my customer quilts are sports related (Pittsburgh you know) and these are not the usual floral WOW or BOB; and the feel of them is awesome. Machine quilt nicely. I got mine at Fabric.com for about $10/yard.

Here's my Ava. I remembered this bright little print, a 30 ties fabric, I think. I had to just use it in this block.

I had a big bowl of my chili for lunch. Then I had a bowl of plain yogurt topped with my cooked apples and peaches...I am sas-sis fied.

TPr9258 09-02-2015 11:38 AM

Like the rest of you, its pretty warm around here in Jersey, been doing canning still not done, have tomasto jam and pepper jelly to get done before the apples come in, still working on week 3, hope to get done with them and week 4 by this weekend, but for today taking the day off, been out for breakfast, then lunch, and again out for dinner, its my first birthday without my mom since she passed in April, she always did the birthday cakes for us, so guess everyone just wants to keep me busy.

givio 09-02-2015 12:31 PM

A couple of bright cheerful blocks posted here!

Jeanie, Moda certainly makes a lot of pretty solids!

Best wishes, Teri, for a peaceful birthday. It was my grandmother who always was baking birthday cakes for all of us. Now there is a memory brought back! They were yellow/white swirled 'daffodil' angel food cakes. My mother always baked us kids Valentine's Day cakes, a white cake with whipped cream for frosting and cherries on top. I hope all your memories of your mother are good ones. My condolences.

QuiltingNinaSue 09-02-2015 01:20 PM

Love all the blocks; I could just sit and 'pat' each one of them and love them all...bright, beautiful and colorful! I would hate to be a judge and have to 'pick' one favorite, because I love them all! Good job with this week's blocks.

oksewglad 09-02-2015 07:36 PM

Slow internet tonight, so can't download all the blocks...just peeks of most of them....what a teaser...what colors I see are gorgeous.

sweet 09-02-2015 09:08 PM

Happy Birthday Teri!

Happy b-day, and... Ta da! I'm caught up! The theme this week was backgrounds. I see the term 'low volume' a lot on quilt blogs, and I'm trying to learn how to use them. Not sure my backgrounds act as background, but it was a fun week, going to keep working with that. Autumn is my favorite block so far. :)

Pam P 09-03-2015 07:22 AM

Love them! You really do have some interesting prints that I have never seen before.

oksewglad 09-03-2015 06:15 PM

That's what is so interesting about watching the blocks come in...the myriad of color and design that comes in...Sew delightful everyone

huskyquilter 09-03-2015 09:19 PM

After being part of this, along with a monthly swap, I've realized that my taste in fabric can be described as 'rabbit hole of the moment.' The term 'moment' has no exact (or even remotely general) specifications.

huskyquilter 09-04-2015 07:56 AM

Most of them are just moda precuts. Autumn uses charm squares from the boathouse collection. The background on Ava is a new one I just got called chic neutrals. The little bird print is one I ordered from http://www.twiddletails.com/store/ I order almost everything online...

Good morning Ladies. Lovely blocks. I've have mine done, and on Sunday a got a few ahead because we are moving from NM to NY in about 7 weeks. So I'm going to try to keep up, but I'm sure at some point I'll fall behind, but I'll catch up after the first of the year if I really get behind. But I will keep my eyes on all of your blocks.

JeanieG 09-04-2015 09:53 AM

klgreen - your blocks are so perfectly done! Great job, and love your fabrics.

QuiltingNinaSue 09-04-2015 10:21 AM

klgreene, its so nice to see your perfect quilting blocks again; you are so accurate and precise in your blocks...guess you could say I am a fan of yours, and do admire all your work. A move from NM to NY is quite a move. I moved from southern NM to Iowa, and on to Alaska once....that was enough for me, I thought. then we moved back, to Iowa, Missouri, and on to southern Texas for a number of years. Retired now, and hopeful stay here in North Central Missouri until we die....hopefully a number of years before we do. Life does not come with guarantees. Enjoy each day, is precious.

TPr9258 09-04-2015 12:46 PM

Klgreene- so u are moving to my neck of the woods or at least the east coast, where in NY r u moving to, even though I live in Jersey its really only 10 miles from NY and PA that I live.
