I'll bat lead off here, Anne. Surprise--these are not Hope & Iris. I just didn't love those blocks so found some to substitute that I like. Anxious to see what everyone else did with these.

janRN 01-19-2016 09:40 AM

Buddy's mom, we were posting at the same time. I like your blocks--I just couldn't get them to work in batiks. As for backwards, no such thing--flowers grow in all directions. Great job & fabric choices.

buddy'smom 01-19-2016 09:42 AM

WOW, there stunning blocks. Thanks I will most likely use my hope block as is.

Great job. Ladies and a hard act to follow. Just have the Hope block done; I am cooking for the 'pot luck' tomorrow...Pork loin with apples and brown sugar, Green beans in Dutch Over with bacon,, and Sweet potatoes with apples, broan sugar and butter. And Cinnamon Rolls.

Hope of all mankind; honors the Star that lead the wise men to Baby Jesus. Hope springs eternally for all mankind as long as we breathe and beyond.

Pretty colorful blocks this week..I saw yours first Jan and thought..these are easy blocks then realized they are substitutions :D

Hello Buddy'sMom, nice to meet you! I love your vintage fabrics..I have some bits & pieces from maybe 20-25 yrs ago..I'm always checking wherever I travel to add to my collection.. I've seen all your other blocks and you are very accomplished in this art.. keep it up :)

Nna, I'm going to start saving all your little messages..they are so on point..

buddy'smom 01-19-2016 01:56 PM

Here is my Hope while I play catch up! Welcome Buddy'smom, glad you are here : ) Love your blocks Jan! They look harder to me! QNS, I want to join your potluck!

oksewglad 01-19-2016 08:19 PM

I love watching all the variations that pop up whether it's in the fabric or different blocks....

givio 01-19-2016 08:34 PM

I can't think it will matter if a block is backwards or not because they look nice either way. Stars are always looking good in Christmas prints. :-) That Scottie print is a winner too-- how cute is that! I have to get busy, I'm behind again.

janRN 01-20-2016 05:31 AM

QNS, love the bright colors you chose. Pam those scotties are too cute!! I'm loving all these different interpretations, so inspiring.

Pam, those little Scotties are precious and JanRN, your batiks are so pretty. You're right -- I like your tulip much better than this week's iris.

Wow, Katy, your points are perfect! Love the colors in your blocks even funky Iris block LOL.

Idid it I did it I did it....I'm caught up except for a few back in Sept. that I will work on in the next few weeks. But I'm caught up here, and can now work on a couple other projects to catch up on. I do hate being so far behind, but can't help it when you move cross country. Thanks for all the other compliments on the posts I added yesterday. Katie

oksewglad 01-20-2016 03:02 PM

I think once you get the iris set without the seam allowances exposed you will like the block better..just saying..

Cute blocks!!

givio 01-22-2016 08:29 AM

Margie07, Maybe you would like to join us and make some too? :-)

buddy'smom 01-22-2016 10:05 AM

Thank you is anyone else PP and if so are you having any trouble with backward blocks?

katybob 01-22-2016 10:16 AM

I'm paper piecing and some of the blocks are backwards, but since my printer isn't fancy enough to mirror image print and after fiddling around with retracing the block pattern, I decided nobody will know they're backwards but us.

Pam P 01-22-2016 12:23 PM

same here and I tried once to change the block (can't remember which one) but it was too much trouble for me (don't really have those skills) so I'm with katybob, I just make it how it ends up. I have a LOT of catching up to do too.

buddy'smom 01-22-2016 02:46 PM

Thank you, I'm gonna leave the one and try and re due the other.

Honchey 01-22-2016 04:57 PM

Hi, I'm confused, this block does not need to be mirror imaged, just rotated to the right. right???

givio 01-22-2016 09:12 PM

Pam P, maybe it was the Daffodil block? Rotating Hope, it will be the same... I agree with katybob-- the blocks will only seem backwards to us because we saw them originally the other way.

buddy'smom 01-23-2016 09:15 AM

Well I did re due my one block and it's the right way this time. When everyone started this did you start with the first block in the book? Just want to try and catch up. Thanks.

We're going alphabetically by the name of the block. The index at the back of the book is in alphabetical order, so you can check off your finished blocks there. Next week's blocks are Jenny and Jewel.

buddy'smom 01-23-2016 10:02 AM

Thanks so much.

Here is the completed Iris; which was more fun than I thought to do:Set on point like its going to look in the quilt. A Dragon Lady Irish, fresh and unusual and bright.

buddy'smom 01-24-2016 11:26 AM

Very pretty block.

janRN 01-24-2016 02:41 PM

Perfect block to remind us Spring is coming, QNS!

QNS, That's a cute Iris! I like the colors you chose. Here's my Hope. I used the background print in the center by mistake, but decided not to change it.

buddy'smom 01-24-2016 04:08 PM

Awesome block.

QuiltingNinaSue 01-24-2016 04:40 PM

Like that way; would not change it. Reminds me of a peacock.

katybob 01-24-2016 05:25 PM

Love your dragon lady iris, QNS, and Givio's fabric does look like peacock feathers. It was quite a surprise when I moved to Florida a couple of years ago to see dozens of peacocks wandering around the streets.

janRN 01-25-2016 05:28 AM

Love that background fabric!

buddy'smom 01-26-2016 10:37 AM

Has the next blocks been posted?? Thanks.

QuiltingNinaSue 01-26-2016 12:52 PM

Buddy's Mom, you can post now. Honchey was snow bound until today, so she went to town this morning. Love to see your blocks. Mine are cut out but not sewn yet.

Here is my Iris. I went with the traditional colors. I think it took me longer to cut out than to sew. I didn't enjoy making it, and am glad it's done!

QuiltingNinaSue 01-29-2016 06:04 AM

Lovely block, Givio! I felt the same way. Then I re-think and say ''it's done! move onward" each one is a new challenge, what fabric should I use in this one? and the totes I am using for fabric storage keeps growing... from one box to four or five now. LOL. I have a giant clean up job to do when I re-sort fabrics back by color.

buddy'smom 01-29-2016 07:10 AM

Givio, your block looks great.
