Thanks mirabelle, that's what I thought too when I saw the pictures. I'm not going to use cornerstones btw

gardnergal970 04-27-2012 04:07 AM

Wednig...your quilt just has personality...no weirdos. Great balance of values that keeps is interesting.

Mirabelle...your blocks when all together don't disappoint. Just beautiful. BTW...will you be doing more chariety quilts?

wendiq 04-27-2012 06:39 AM

Anael, Personally, I like "brown" too......but perhaps it is too bold to use with all of your softer colors...... you have to decide.....gosh, as I said, no easy job! Are you planning to use a cornerstone with it? To be honest, I like both and either would work.....The darker brown makes a definite frame....I guess it depends on the look you want.

wendiq 04-27-2012 06:41 AM

Mirabelle......your blocks are beautiful. They all look so good together.....:) Isn't it kind of amazing to see them all together???? Fun! Fun! Fun!

wendiq 04-27-2012 06:47 AM

Honchey and Anael.....That horse(without the Indian) is one I got from "Block of the Day". I have downloaded it to my Foundation Factory. If you can tell me how to post it for you, I will. I'm so darn "untechie"....LOL!

Anael 04-27-2012 07:11 AM

Wendi, no cornerstones. I think looking at the differnce I would say the brown as it makes a definite frame like you said.

Do you still know when you downloaded that horse? I've downloaded quite some blocks of 'Block of the Day" but I don't know if I downloaded a horse or not LOL I don't remember the blocks being 12" though, did you enlarge it?

wendiq 04-27-2012 07:20 AM

Anael....that horse was a January 15, 2012. Since I downloaded it into my Foundation Factory, I can resize it to whatever I need. As soon as I saw it, I KNEW I had to make it....HeeHee.....You, obviously, remember the story......:)

Anael 04-27-2012 08:59 AM

Yes I remember, I was the one who started that 'conversation'. I don't have the horse block, I didn't download any blocks this year. I do have another horse block but that one is not as nice as yours!

dublb 04-27-2012 02:51 PM

Wendi, I'm with everybody else: The brown looks the best. :) It frames your blocks beautifully!

carriem 04-27-2012 04:55 PM

Great job everyone on your "30 block milestone"! I didn't remember until yesterday that this new thread was posted. So excited to see the blocks all together. I will post my first 15 early next week...kids needed more attention than usual this week so no sewing. :( Oh well, being a mom is a good job too! Maybe Sunday afternoon I will get a chance to do a little something....14 blocks are completed.

Carrie

OMG what a great Birthday Present! You will have a new toy to learn how to use! LOL Happy Birthday Sunday Dublb!

Anael ... I too would send you a FQ if you're interested ... I really liked the Espresso Mist IRL, though might be too harsh against your white. Maybe we're tempting you with fabrics that are not possible, being that you can't get them in Holland?

MiraB ... We've all loved yours as you've made them and the grouping doesn't change it one bit! It looks so calm and peaceful for a crisp looking bed quilt. It's going to be so stunning and nicely pulled together with your sashing/cornerstones.

WendiQ ... thanks for your compliements re my blocks. Yours look terrific ... and I don't see any that look like misfits as you suggested! Great mixture in the fabrics, colours, hues, tones, values and all those words that I get confused as to which means what!!!! :) Some great add-ins too. Me to for another who likes your little horsey ... can you share the pattern with us? Please? :)

DublB ... Happy Birthday!!! and what a great way to start it off, with a new toy!!

Moi? ... I'm SO looking forward to the weekend. Have been dashing here, there and everywhere for work this week. And now am SO looking forward to the weekend and some quality time with my sewing machine. Tonight got my FWS binding made and ready for the big moment ... hopefully this coming week, if my LAQ is on schedule. First tomorrow will be this week's blocks, then hopefully next week's! And then get my nose to the grindstone to do some finishes for the LQS UFO Challenge.

I'm also not a big online order-type ... I have to touchy-feely and really know what I have, rather than guesswork!

Thanks QE, that's so sweet! Tempting me is no problem. I did an online search for Kaufman fabrics in The Netherlands and no Fusions came up so I do have to order it in the US anyway. Only one store had some Kaufman fabrics and it's quite expensive ( $ 17.00 and up)! I saw a pic of the Espresso and I think it's too dark but thinking of that the contrast might be right. What a problem LOL

QuiltE 04-28-2012 04:51 AM

Take out some fabrics you have in your stash and try them with your blocks. You may not have enough yardage, but at the least, it'll give you an idea on what you want to zero in on for the winning sashing/cornerstones.
I've even used curtains, carpet, coats, etc. Anything that has colours I'm considering. (don't laugh, one time I took a t-shirt into the paint store, and said, make me this colour of paint for my kitchen!)

Better still .... take your blocks on a FART .... and audition them at your LQS!!!!!!!

Anael 04-28-2012 05:07 AM

That means a road trip as I don't have any brown fabric in the house! Even with very expensive fabric the LQS is a danger area LOL LOL

QuiltE 04-28-2012 05:13 AM

Danger! Danger! Danger!
I think it is for us all! :D

(BTW ... $15-$17 is the normal price of Fusions and most LQS fabrics here too! I cry a few tears everytime I see one of our American friends whining about expensive fabrics at $10 ... I'd be jumping for joy!!!!!:))

wendiq 04-28-2012 06:14 AM

DUBLB......HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, PARDNER......:) Nice gift from your DH......have a GREAT week.....:)

wendiq 04-28-2012 06:19 AM

Carrie.....there is NO JOB as important as "moming". What kids experience during their home years, extends way into adulthood. I know......I have three....51,50 and 48. I see glimpses of their "upbringing" in so many ways and at so many times.......Quilting is a nice diversion, but one of these days, you may have a ton of time to do it....if you don't now, oh well.....:)

wendiq 04-28-2012 06:20 AM

DUBLB......Sorry, I jumped the gun on your birthday.....good for you to keep it stretched......I just did the same thing....managed to milk it for a whole week........

Wendig...Fusion also comes in a black. Kaufman has several lines of fusion and the one shown in brown is the line #12141 which is Fusion Mist.

Gardnergal.......I appreciate the numbers and info......I really like this line. I do, however, have several stores fairly nearby so will go have a "look-see" before I make a choice......this will definitely be on my list to see.

I agree! Being a Mom is important! Yet when they are gone ya will have a lot's of quiltin' ta do! It'll keep the empty nest from feelin' so empty. I've only got 1 left at home & he is in college so not much for me ta do for him. More time ta quilt!

Here are my first 30! I have decided I am going to turn this quilt into two lap quilts, like I did the FWSQ. I'm going to put all the blocks with the horses in them into one quilt, and all the "other" blocks into the other. This came to me suddenly....duh... when I was trying to preview the background fabrics for the sashing. The sashing colors I have been previewing look great with the horse fabric, but don't do much for the "other" fabrics. I'll keep working on it!

Anael 04-28-2012 12:17 PM

Happy Birthday Bev! I hope you had a great day/week LOL

Jeanie, your blocks are beautiful!

Here are the horse blocks with a background I am considering. Tell me what you think!

QuiltingNinaSue 04-28-2012 12:40 PM

I love your "30" blocks JeanieG. It yells "California" to me....bright and cheerful and happy. Does that mean with California contented cows, there are "contended" horses as well?? At one time, California had more horse per capital for people than any other state. Or maybe just contended quilters that do a lovely job of quilting like you do.

QuiltE 04-28-2012 09:31 PM

JeanieG ... what a great assortment and a cheery lot of blocks. I know you're considering that brownish Fusions MIst ... have you considered white as in your first pic? The white seems to work really well with all the blocks!

JeanieG 04-28-2012 09:35 PM

The brown I have with the cowboy blocks is not a Fusion Mist. It is one I pick up somewhere???? The white may work really well with the "other" blocks. Like you say, it does not look bad on my design wall.

mirabelle 04-28-2012 09:56 PM

Happy Birthday Bev, hope you had a wonderful day.
JeanieG love love love your blocks, I also like your idea of 2 lap quilts

dublb 04-28-2012 09:58 PM

Thanks Ya'll!
Oh Jeanie, they are beautiful! I too like the white or maybe ya could do an off white?

gardnergal970 04-29-2012 05:18 AM

JeanieG...your brown sashing works with the horses. I really like your idea of two lap quilts. I might just copy it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY...Dubib! Sew happy all day long!

Sorry! I thought it was the FM one that you showed to Anael, when we were tempting her! Whatever you choose, you're going to have two lovely quilts. I'd go for two totally different looks just because I'd want them to be different to each other ... maybe even do different styles of sashings?

dublb 04-29-2012 09:23 AM

Well it looks like I won't git ta sew taday! Yesterday afternoon My DSister & DBIL called & said that they want ta come & git the couch that we were goin' ta give 'em. We didn't think they were goin' ta come & git it till next week. So all day yesterday & ta day we've been rearrangin' furniture. Now I've got ta git the clutter cleaned up. I'm takin' a few minuets break. I guess that means no sewin' again taday.:( I am very happy about how everything is lookin' though.

deranged_damsel 04-29-2012 04:20 PM

B~E~A~U~T~I~F~U~L blocks everyone :D :D :D
Im excited for this milestone, I have to finish one block then I will take a picture!!!

gardnergal970 04-30-2012 05:01 AM

Dubib...isn't it amazing how rearranging the furniture, corralling all of the dust bunnies, and conquering the clutter gives such a sense of well being and contentment? I know it's usually short lived so enjoy it for all it's worth!

carriem 04-30-2012 05:23 AM

Speaking of cleaning/organizing...the next few weeks will be pretty busy but when I am home again we will be going room by room decluttering and cleaning. The kids have out-grown toys, games, clothes etc so that space can be better used for other things.

We will be done with school (I homeschool our kids) mid May, then are going to KY for archery nationals (all three kids are shooting) and the week after that I am going to quilt market with the owner of the quilt shop where I work...it is in KS. It will be a fun month with lots of traveling, but then I can return home and get started! Oh and we will be cleaning in the mornings when we usually did school so it won't interfere with my sewing time. LOL

wendiq 04-30-2012 06:36 AM

JeanieG...I'm thinking I may do the same thing.....horses in one, non-horses in another. Unfortunately, no one in my circle cares a bit about horses and I'm not even sure that my DGD's know what a horse is other than from a picture.....sad fact of life these days.....at least in my part of the world.....:( I grew up around horses and other livestock, and this quilt is a little bit of nostalgia for me, but my kids and grandkids could care less......I will most likely put the horses quilt away for a gift or a charity donation in hopes that it will "fit" someone......I know I am having a ball making these blocks....as I said, Nostalgia for me.....and I am really enjoying all the chatter here......a very active and friendly group!
