At one time, California had more horse per capital for people than any other state. Or maybe just contended quilters that do a lovely job of quilting like you do.

HeeHee.....such a clever turn of words.....there are still a few horses, but so many have moved due to the horrible housing glut in the late 90's and early part of 2000. Ranchers sold off all the land for the developers......now so many of those areas are ghost towns.....malls and people just couldn't afford what they had......lots of sadness in CA now. Those "golden hills" have become very tarnished......I can talk as I am a native Californian (and I cry a lot for our State).

WendiQ ... if it's nostalgia for you, then make the quilt for YOU ... and don't worry about anyone else. Enjoy your trip down memory lane and continue so, once you start sleeping under it! Horses have meant nothing in my life either, and in the beginning, I was hesitant. However, rural, livestock, farm, etc. certainly WAS and IS my life. So I've branched out to include other phases and am looking at it as a Just for Fun for Me quilt! :) Please join me!!

CarrieM ... Looks like you'll be busy! For some reason, I don't think your kids will be impressed with your school replacement project. In fact, they may even say, let's go back to school, Ma! :) We'll look forward to your Quilt Market report. How exciting that will be for you!!

GGal ... I know what you mean, how nice my home can be when it's cleaned fresh. And then I vow to keep it that way ... and before long, oh how it changes. However, I AM getting better!! For one person, I should be able to keep it spic and span, right? Yet there are always more exciting things to do .... like sewing! :)

dublb 04-30-2012 11:37 AM

Windi - I agree w/QuiltE make it for yourself! You're the one that it will mean anything to.
Carrie - I don't see how ya homeschool & have time ta quilt. Your are my hero!
QuiltE - I do plan on it staying clean. Yeah right, that's not happenin'. I will try though. You're right there are much more exciting things ta do.

Have a very Happy Birthday Dublb! Boy oh boy, Lots of chatter on the threads today! I can't keep up with all of you. So many pretty blocks posted!!! I have a photo of all my completed blocks....I have 4 from the past that are still cooking....H/

janRN 04-30-2012 05:19 PM

Beautiful combination of blocks, Anne. Love how you're using such bright, vibrant colors. Very nice!!

I'm so far behind on everyone's posts but hope I'm back in the saddle again. Yinz are doing such awesome quilts!! My eyes are smiling at these beauties!! So sorry to have not been an active participant lately. As most of you know, my mother is in a rehab facility but her therapy is going well and she may be discharged home by the week-end. I think that's a good thing, but...... who knows. I only live about 6 blocks from her so will be able to run back and forth as needed. I really need to get back in my sewing room, if only for my own sanity. It's been so nice reading all your posts and looking at all the fantastic blocks everyone has done.

dublb 04-30-2012 05:49 PM

Honchey - Such beautiful bright blocks! They are goin' so well tagether! It's gonna be lovely.
Jan - Don't worry about it. You're right where ya need ta be! We'll be waitin' when ya git back ta it. We know that ya will finish these when ya can.:)
DD - Wow ya did this while ya felt bad. Good job! They are so cool & refreshin' lookin'. That brown will balance 'em.

QuiltE 04-30-2012 08:44 PM

Honchey ... Like JanRN, I noticed the bright and cheery look that your blocks are creating. Nice clear and clean colours. Have thought about sashing/cornerstones yet?

JanRN ... I'm sure you're needing a sewing "fix". It'll do you good, even if you just find something simple to work with as a filler as you race back and forth to your Mom! We've been talking dogs in a couple of threads, and I've been thinking of Patches!

DDamsel ... what a pretty lot of blocks. Such a soft, delicate and precious look to them.

gardnergal970 05-01-2012 04:47 AM

Honchey...your blocks just pop! So vibrant and beautiful!

DDamsel...did you ever catch up quick. This will be a nice quilt to remember this time in hour life and how much you accomplished even when you weren't hitting on all cylinders. Great job!

JanRN...glad we can give your spirits a lift with the blocks and chatter. We do miss your pretties but rest assured, you are doing exactly what needs to be done. Your Mother is very blessed to have your care. Isn't it amazing though how we can pour out even when we feel like there is nothing more to give? You'll make it through this time and have some very good memories and no regrets.

carriem 05-01-2012 05:44 AM

Honchey--what fun, bright colored blocks. I love them all together!

DD--your blocks have a nice calming effect! Hope you get to feeling better soon!!

So true Wendi! I am a native Californian also, so know what you are talking about. There are still some horses around here, a lot of small acre plots, and rural areas.

Ladies, great job on all your blocks! I'm finally caught up on this post, still have to look at the others. I love the chattiness and friendship of this group!
QE, I didn't think you'd be able to use the yellow in all your blocks. You did and they are beautiful with lots of contrast.
Anael you have such a great mix of soft and bright-great mix of fabrics.
Wendiq, I looked all over for weirdos and didn't see any. I saw lots of beautiful work and great colors.
Mirabelle, I thought red, white & blue would be okay but kinda boring. Your blocks are anything but boring-they're beautiful with the other colors as accents.
Bev-happy birthday late!!
Jeanie-I like the idea of 2 lap quilts; much easier to manage. Your blocks are gorgeous. My favorite is still the horse riders against the sunset.
DD-your blocks make me want to snuggle in your quilt. The colors are so soft and pretty.
QNS, you knocked my sox off--I love all your bright colors and beautiful blocks. What a fun quilt you have.

Keep on showing your ideas for sashings; I have no clue what I'll use but I bet it will be black LOL. I'm so not clever at choosing colors!! I love your various choices and the different looks you can achieve by changing the colors.

QuiltE 05-01-2012 02:10 PM

QNSue ..... your blocks look terrific on that cheddar coloured backing!! I think you should go with it for sashing, providing of course, it is Extra Extra Old Cheddar! :) SEriously, it's not at all what I would have thought about, yet I really think it could be perfect!

JanRN ... thanks! I too was starting to think I had set myself up for the impossible of getting the yellow into every block. It's taken a different mindset than when I did the FWS, and at times a disappointing one, as I see fabrics I "want" to use, but just don't see the how, in order to keep the yellow in. Plus the contrast issue, but I'm getting better at keeping any lights in a dark frame, or not using them at all! Now, as for you and your basic black, there's nothing wrong with that .... though there's also nothing wrong with you stepping outside the comfort zone! :) I'm sure we could all help you come up with all different possibilities when you are ready to start down that trail!!! :D

oksewglad 05-01-2012 02:51 PM

Oh my I have missed this thread! What a great assortment of almost quilts.
GGal your sashings are just perfect for your blocks--how different the unsashed blocks look. Can't wait to see them with sashings too.
Jan love how crisp and clean your blocks look.
QE the yellow makes this quilt say WOW
Anael like's Jan's yours look so crisp with those whites. I can envision the Brown sashing with them too.
Wendi I feel like "Where's Weirdo?" trying to find them. No can do. I see you used the rose in yellow. Have you posted it solo before? Your assortment is so cheery looking
mirabelle Sigh--just me liking the blues!
Jeanie I see a terrific balance of colors. Putting the tan sashings unifies them and pulls out the brown in the blocks and draws the eye to all the Pretty horses. Fantastic as this is a Pony Club quilt
Honchey What clear colors, bright but not overwhelming!
DDamsel O my! How beautiful. This is your therapy quilt and we all need that reassurance.
QNS Perfectly aged cheddar on those beauties!!

Thanks for the show!!

dublb 05-01-2012 10:09 PM

QNS, I would've never thought yellow for your blocks. I saw a lot of red, greens, & blues. These were the colore I would have thought of, but you just wowed us! great blocks & sashing color!

gardnergal970 05-02-2012 04:17 AM

QNSue...I saw this color of sashing in the FWQ and I liked it but I wasn't brave enough to try it. You really pulled it off!

Oksewglad...now you have me thinking maybe I shouldn't have been so quick with the sashing. The second setting makes each block it's own separate quilt. Hummmmm......

This has been a very pretty thread. No two are alike. It looks like purple has rubbed off on some of the blocks.
Mine will be all blues and beiges.
Here are my last 15 and all of them.

First one didn't come through.

QuiltE 05-02-2012 05:20 PM

Absolutely Spectacular, GrannyQ ... glad that you found your way back to the trail with us!

dublb 05-02-2012 05:54 PM

Oh, oh, oh All the blues w/a touch of butter. Fabulous!

oksewglad 05-02-2012 06:45 PM

Ahhh--she sighs from the north. So luscious.

JeanieG 05-02-2012 09:34 PM

GrannyQ, those look spectacular together! Wow, just love the colors!

gardnergal970 05-03-2012 04:34 AM

GrannyQ...I'm ready to ditch my scrappy look. Mirabelle and Oksewglad had me leaning that way but you put me over the top. The ditching will have to be for my next quilt. I'm too far along for this one. I'm starting a BOM at the LQS in June and I'll try it there in a sampler.

oksewglad 05-03-2012 05:34 AM

Don't forget to share!

janRN 05-03-2012 09:17 AM

Very pretty, GrannyQ. Your blocks all have such nice contrast in them. I'm in love with the blue/cream combo.

And they blend so well! They all play nice to each other that sashing would not be necessary if that were one of your options.

QuiltE 05-04-2012 12:05 PM

Termi ... Great pics ... and wonderful blocks. ITA with the others that you have a good mix coming along already. You've done yourself proud!

QuiltingNinaSue 05-04-2012 01:38 PM

Great job, Terri. Your quilt will be so adorable!!

gardnergal970 05-04-2012 02:46 PM

Termi....great looking blocks which together, make a beautiful picture.

deranged_damsel 05-04-2012 05:07 PM

OOOoooooohhh PRETTY :D

janRN 05-04-2012 05:17 PM

Termi, you are going to have such a nice bright quilt. Love all the colors you're using. Great job.

grannyQ 05-04-2012 05:49 PM

Termi, You really have a lot of beautiful blocks, good job.

mirabelle 05-04-2012 11:10 PM

Awesome Termi, can't wait to see the next 30:thumbup:

Termi 05-05-2012 07:31 AM

Wow, thanks everybody for your kind words and encouragement. You ladies have all kept me going. This will be my first quilt. I was thinking perhaps I should balance out all the bright blocks with some that are not so bright. ( don't know if I can though, I love those brights) I'd be happy to hear any suggestions you may have. Thank you!

QuiltE 05-05-2012 08:26 AM

Termi ... your group is quite impressive. Even more so with it being your first quilt. WOW!!! :) You've already got a pretty good balance going. Have you decided on sashing/cornerstone fabrics? If not, I'd suggest you start auditioning fabrics and once you make your choice, then you know what you're balancing towards. Makes sense?

When I did my FWS, I waited til the end for my sashing/cornerstones, and couldn't believe what a different life the blocks took on once I had it on two sides. So I vowed to get my sashing/cornerstones early for PC.

You're doing really well, so don't start 2nd guessing yourself! :)

gardnergal970 05-05-2012 08:54 AM

Termi...I agree with QuiltE...do what you like and you'll like the final results. You're doing a wonderful job for this being your first quilt. I'm glad you're not discouraged keeping at it. You've done some very challenging blocks!
