I can't believe that we are finally here. I really had a tough time doing the english hand piecing on A Beauty...A Dandy using the pping was a breeze... I only had to fussy cut the corner horses twice!!!:D Well, here they are!!!

QuiltE 01-03-2012 09:21 PM

Oh my goodness!!! What a great start to your quilt, Honchey!
Now you've got me wondering? Are you using hte yellow spotted fabric for sashing?

Tomorrow, I'll tackle my first block ... though I think my first will be the 2nd! :)
The real question ... will I be able to sleep now, with all the excitement and anticipation?

deranged_damsel 01-04-2012 04:13 AM

OooooooooooooooooooHHHHhhh!!!! Anne those are amazing!!! :D :D :D

QuiltingNinaSue 01-04-2012 05:08 AM

Week one Pony Club blocks

I'm doing mine scrappy without the pony theme. I used templates for the Beauty block and it went pretty well. I just have to figure out how to upload the pictures from my iPad! It doesn't seem to work like a computer for this function.

Beautiful!! I love your colors.

Weeser1 01-04-2012 08:02 AM

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

weezie 01-04-2012 08:05 AM

Hi, Y'all! What beautiful blocks! I'm assuming that FWS Pony CLub BOM is shooting for 2 blocks per week, so I'll be back regularly to see all of them. Happy New Year.

wendiq 01-04-2012 08:19 AM

Love your fabric.....
I am being a pest, but try as I may, I can't figure out how to post a picture. I see in the help section that I need to find the "insert" icon (where is it?) and the I can do it.....all I ever get is this quick reply and there aren't any buttons....:(

I couldn't find the icon either but wheni went to advanced, it allowed me to browse my computer and select my files. After they are uploaded you still have to submit the posting. Good luck.

What a beautiful start to the PC! As the first picture downloaded the horses dramatically leapt out of the block at me! Then ggirl970's wonderfully contrasted reds came into view. Great job you two!
After seeing these blocks I can see why PP will be often used. Taking a 9P block and making 8" evenly divisible by 3 would be a challenge otherwise.

GGal ... great blocks! Your Beauty is truly a beauty!! :)

JanieW ... no need to be shy. You're off to a great start with some very well made blocks. For future blocks, the Beauty fabrics will blend well with that Dandy pony!! Cute!! Do I really see cowboy ropes in A Beauty? Nice touch!!!
:)

Where can I purchase the directions, is it a book or downloads?

I just got the book and love it! I'm currently working on The Farmer's Wife and have 62 blocks done. I want to start TFWPC but will just have to look at the blocks that are being done for now. I want to do a pony theme on some blocks so I have to find some fabric.

I am not following the pony theme. Using material I have. Thanks for letting me trot with you. This is my first so my blocks will not be as nice as others but I am excited about joining all of you.

You really put your colors together nice. Really nice, Cookie.

QuiltE 01-04-2012 03:56 PM

Welcome Cookie!! ... No need to be shy with such beautiful blocks! The gold background really plays nicely with the dark print. And I predict we just might see some rose in the mix in the future!

"A Beauty" practice block

1 Attachment(s)
I'm going to use my practice blocks in my cousins quilt & they need to be 10.5 inches so I will put a border on each of these.
I was going to make my patriotic block today but spent the day at the hospital with my DGM.

It is on a piece of cream fabric so that it will show up.

DublB ... It doesn't look to me as though you need much practice! That block has turned out really lovely. Great colours!! We'll look forward to seeing your cousin's quilt as well as your Pony Club!As many of you know, I am coming near the end of my FWS blocks. With 23 to go, I don't want to lose my momentum. So, I bargained with myself today and said, OK, QuiltE, you can do ONE PC, and only ONE PC block. Then you have to get below 20 FWS to go, before you can do another PC!!So tonight, I set to doing A Dandy. I found getting started was hard to know which fabrics to start with, and what to put where. Did anyone else notice how huge these pieces seem, compared to the FWS blocks? I didn't think that two extra inches would make that much of a difference!! :)

dublb 01-04-2012 09:25 PM

I just came back to my computer & looked at Ya'll's quilts. I had such a small window of time to get my picture posted that I didn't taken the time to look at everyone''s blocks. (DH had supper on the table.)

Oh, Wow, they are lovely! They leap off of the page! It is so neat to see how each block can look so different
with just a change in fabrics; Awesome.

Thank You so much! I only need 15 blocks for my cousins quilt. The other 15 blocks will be postage stamp blocks. I've made 2 of those so far. It will be 50" x 60".
I like your bargain with yourself. Great way to stay motivated!

JeanieG 01-04-2012 09:49 PM

Wonderful job Bev and QuiltE! Those blocks both look just great.

Wow everyones blocks look amazing.
Gardnergal970 we have used the same fabric for our first block,
Looking forward to seeing more beautiful blocks

mirabelle 01-04-2012 11:06 PM

My background fabric looks really weird after being scanned, it really is a lovely cream with a darker leaf motif.

Leba 01-05-2012 12:09 AM

Beautiful blocks I am so inspired. Just got my book yesterday (Tuesday Jan 4). Can't wait to get started. Glad I joined.

oksewglad 01-05-2012 12:13 AM

The QW here. Oh the pretties are here, and not just "pretty horses"!
JanieW red and green blocks look wonderful;
and Cookie- yours and mirabelle's will be welcome relief from all the ponies!! Are you going to keep with browns and golds from your scraps or are you going to bring other colors?
Love your fabrics Mbelle!
dublb the brown sashing to the block really sets it off.
QE did you use that green in your FWS? The center horse is spot on!

Lucy--please post your blocks in the FWS group threads. There's still a few of us adding to the photo pages, so join right in. In Evie's blog she has all the picture links. This is link to her blog. I use it all the time!

gardnergal970 01-05-2012 05:56 AM

Dubib...the way you shadowed your little squares makes the block look altogether different . I had to study it a bit to make sure it way a BEAUTY...you've lifted it to higher heights!

gardnergal970 01-05-2012 06:03 AM

Maribelle, I did a double take as I was scrolling through the pages. I knew I had already seen my blocks and here it turned up again but oops...it's your block. I just got those fat quarters this past week and couldn't resist using them. I love the red paisley.

violetsfarm 01-05-2012 06:32 AM

As usual, your blocks are outstanding. Such cute prints and attention to detail. Keep up the great piecing.

QuiltE 01-05-2012 06:56 AM

MiraBelle ... Great blocks! Do you plan to use the same background throughout? It helps to give a fresh crispness to the blocks, and the darker overleaf keeps it warm. With the array of fabrics you have, I'm anxious to see the next two! :)

MiraBelle and GGal ... That's something that the two of you chose the same fabric for your first blocks!! It'll be interesting to see the paths your quilts take from here!

QW aka OKSGlad ... Nope! different fabrics ... though once I am done the FWS quilt, I have already spotted some that will be candidates. Til a quilt is finished, I've learned to never "borrow", for fear I come up with a new plan and need it in the first! Perhaps that's how my stash has grown ever so much?? :)

I had such a hard time choosing the fabrics, so I decided to just start with the horse square and let it talk to me. And oh, how the horse fabric looked different once cut down and surrounded with the yellow. Both the green and tan are from the Stonehenge line. The green is kind of a green/blue mottled cut-stone-look with a bit of black/navy. The tan is a multi shade with flecks of the green.
