Oh so bright! I love the contrast! I didn't do the basket either 'cause it didn't go with my fabric, or my fabric didn't go with it. :) So I did a substitute. We each do what we want for our own quilts. I love this board!

oksewglad 02-15-2012 10:05 PM

Nice Betty block fryguym. What block are you going to make for a substitute if you need it?

I love the squirrel video, I think I'll fill my bird feeders so I can watch the squirrels :)

Like your block. Did you make your avatar? We've had that hanging in the LQS for several months and I so admire it.

fryguymoore 02-16-2012 09:11 AM

Thanks.

I have decided to make a block called Basket Puzzle to replace the basket.

I did make the quilt in my avatar. I think it was the most fun thing I have ever made. It was a gift for someone very dear to me. I made it with a lot of help them the members on the site. Here is a close up of it:

OKSGlad!

I haven't posted all that are done as a lot aren't in pairs! I think I'll try to get one more done, to make a pair and post it before I get back into FWS mode!!! :)

There's no keeping up rule, Betty62!! Just start with one of the blocks, and do it at your own pace. Post your pics as you do them, so that we can all ooh and aaaaah at them. And guess what? with all the excitement around here, you'll find it a very inspiring place towareds getting your work done! :)

oksewglad 03-01-2012 09:30 PM

Betty62 what I find is I try to keep up with the current week (I say try) and then back track to get others done, I started late and got behind so now have 4 blocks left as I'm going to post another tonight. Thanks for the kind words, too. We all appreciate hearing them.

dublb 03-01-2012 09:56 PM

OK - Your block is so warm! Nice lovely points. I Love it!
Betty - Could you do 1 a week? What about 1 every-other week? You could catch up latter, or just make 'em at your own pace. Come on & join, show us your lovely blocks! (See I already am anticipating your making 'em!)

JeanieG 03-01-2012 10:25 PM

Great contrast in your block oksewglad!

carriem 03-02-2012 04:20 AM

Oksewglad, I like your block and fabrics. Are those more Kansas Troubles?

gardnergal970 03-02-2012 06:00 AM

OK...great block.

Betty...do one a week and have a lap quilt. With this gang, it's hard to stay one the sidelines. They are all so encouraging.

Thanks, Carrie. The brown is KT; the beige/olive is Bannock & Patek. I have the B & P also in navy instead of the green and use it all the time. It's such a great blender for me as I use a lot of blue in my projects.

Oh that dark blue and yellow/gold color are wonderful together QuiltE! Great basket too!

dublb 04-07-2012 07:49 PM

Oh, oh, oh such great blocks! They'er so pretty! How did ya git 'em done so fast???

QuiltE 04-07-2012 08:05 PM

JeanieG ... I thought that blue and gold was a real cowboy fabric ... on sale at my LQS when I bought it. And yes gold/bling!!

DublB ... don't kid yourself, I really have not been that fast! I had one in each pair done, some time ago, and hadn't posted them. And the Apple Tree had been done for a while, just that I hadn't photo'd the pair. The other way I can be fast .... Remember, I don't have a life!!!! Plus I promised myself that this weekend was all about quality time with my sewing machine! :)

carriem 04-07-2012 08:12 PM

QuiltE....I really like your Betty's Delight block. Great contrast.

Question: For those who didn't do the basket block what did you do in place of it?? I am not crazy about that block, so will be looking for something to replace it when I get there....thanks in advance!!

This was the second block that I substituted. I just made up my liberty block with the leftover pieces from my arrowhead block.

Here's how I made my arrowhead block.

Since then I have bought the book 501 Rotary Cut Quilt Blocks by Judy Hopkins.

CarrieM ... there's lots of different basket blocks around, if you still want a basket of sorts. If you go to quilterscache.com there are oodles and oodles of patterns and you can look them up according to size.

wendiq 04-08-2012 06:21 AM

QuiltE .... Great basket and flowers.....two lovely blocks......good choice, as usual, of fabrics......

Termi 04-08-2012 09:26 AM

QuiltE, your blocks are beautiful!!! That beautiful shade of yellow really makes the other colors pop.

Termi 04-08-2012 09:28 AM

dublb, your patriotic blocks are beautiful!!! Nice job.

QuiltE 04-08-2012 12:48 PM

Aw Shucks .. *blush* ... Yinz are all so kind!!!

janRN 04-08-2012 05:29 PM

QE I think those are my favorite of all your blocks. Really pretty with such great contrast.

Carriem, I didn't do Confounded Rose (QNS name for it LOL). I substituted a star block with dog print and called it Dog Star. If I find I don't like a block, I'm substituting another block and using fabric that wouldn't fit in some of the smaller pieces of the PC blocks. I've found some good 8" blocks on QuiltersCache.

carriem 04-08-2012 05:36 PM

Jan...thanks for the idea. I did find the "Iowa Star" block today in 8" so will make one of those as a substitute. I will take a look at the site you recommended for others if needed. I also know I will make 2 of the telephone block...my husband works for an independent telephone company in a small town. I am making 2 twin size quilts so want a phone on each. :) Maybe a state block for each would be a good idea too....hmmmmm?

QuiltE 04-08-2012 08:02 PM

JanRN ... You're so kind. I wasn't sure if there was enough contrast for the basket from the garden print behind it. Seems as though it isn't as noticable as perhaps it should be. One of those things that you think will be right ... and then see it differently after it is made.

CarrieM ... Great idea! Your Iowa and telephone blocks will make your quilts much more personal for you. Are you going to do the two as a matched pair? Or change the sashing/cornerstones?

carriem 04-09-2012 05:13 AM

I will be changing the sashing/cornerstones...one will have the red sashing w/green/gray combo. The other will be the same print as the red in navy...haven't decided on cornerstones for that one yet. I have 3 shades oranges...from rust to almost cream so maybe the lightest of those . The first half of the blocks I am making I am avoiding using the reds on the outside of the blocks and then will change to not so much blue on the outsides.

I am just planning to make the 90 blocks using 1/2 in each quilt since it is going on a built-in day bed in our living room and won't need a lot of extra fabric hanging down the back and ends. We'll see how that all turns out. :)

I bought a couple Farmer's Wife magazines on ebay and plan to copy and frame a couple covers for decor in my living room...might try to find a "pony club" advertisement to hang up too.

gardnergal970 04-09-2012 05:22 AM

QuiltE...love your blocks.

Dubib...you are so creative with the substitutions. I see you got the book that they're using on the Story BOM. Have I missed your blocks? Must go look.

QuiltE 04-09-2012 05:43 AM

CarrieM ... It's going to be oh so nice!! What a good idea to frame up the covers! ... Another idea, copy and reduce them down, then print onto fabric for a block in your quilt. Or with the label? Wouldn't that be fun to find one with the PC advertisement?

Thanks
GGal .. with a name like yours, perhaps the Basket should be yours!

I've passed on that block, too. HeeHee....love the new name for it.....pretty block, but a real bugger to make! And I started doing substitutes, but have decided to wait until I am all done with my blocks and then make what I need for subs, using colors I need to "fill in". I would also like to find a couple more "horsey" prints.

dublb 04-09-2012 07:42 AM

I just love how we are all makin' these quilts our own! They are gonna be great.

Those are lovely blocks DublB ... and I saw GGal's Crystal Star, too!

I take it that the BOM is that you make "something" that is a variation of the 9P, HST etc. as assigned each month?

Correct, QuiltE. Twelve inch blocks. First month was 9 patch, second half square trinangles, and this month we are doing pinwheels. Here is the link where we first got the info. Go to the first page. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...ml#post5127326.

Or maybe this link. One is pictures and the other is the announcement.

QuiltE 04-09-2012 09:18 AM

GGal ... I did look at it when it was first started, and kept saying to myself, Iamnotstartinganotherproject-Iamnotstartinganotherproject-Iamnotstartinganotherproject. I was tempted, but no ... I have more than enough on the go (says she who has been looking at piece of John Deere fabric today, and thinking about possibilities!!:))

oksewglad 04-10-2012 09:27 AM

QE-I like the background flowers to your basket block and basket fabric is spot on. BLING!! From a distance the blue looks like bandana fabric.
Carrie, I used the Iowa star in place of the Arizona star, and then found I had the AZ star fabrics cut and ready to sew so did both. LOL. Looking forward to see your 2 quilts when all is said and done.
