Our power went out on Friday night, and no TV in my room again until yesterday...life went on and I got my blocks done. Loved North Carolina, used a mirror image:
Next door neighbors, an ode to route 66 where we married, lived in Missouri, New Mexico and Texas and had good neighbors.....enjoy.

Great blocks Anne & QNS. Why is my block different? I followed the pattern given but mine has a square in the middle instead of the arrows all the way across. Hmmm.
Anne, I'm hooked on baseball the way you're hooked on the olympics. Especially with the Pirates in contention for the first time in years!

Jan I like the way your block turned out with the square in the middle. Here are mine. I tried to use regular templates but didn't calculate right and had to remove some of the geese to make it work. :o Where there's a will there's a way without starting all over.

Honchey 08-08-2012 08:16 AM

I love all the blocks !!!What a difference fabric makes.... Not too many potholders this trip around....I did make some from the FWS Sampler...they are sitting in a drawer in the Calabash house...I looked and looked at North Carolina and it finally dawned on me that the center area of the pping was different from the photo in the book....I made mine like yours Jan...I think the block is balanced with the square in the middle...Now to finish sewing the sections...H.

Here is my second block for this week..H.

gardnergal970 08-08-2012 04:14 PM

QNSue...I love the stories that you have with your blocks and they are so colorful too.

Honchey...you're leading the charge this week. Good job on your blocks too. Only a few more days to be distracted by the Olympics too. Haven't they been fun and inspiring?

janRN 08-08-2012 05:06 PM

Pretty block, Anne--I can see by your fabric choices how caught up you are in the Olympics! I looked at the pp pattern and it is different than the book or template pattern.

dublb 08-08-2012 05:06 PM

Oh my such beautiful blocks! I truly love everybodies blocks. Lookin' at 'em I realize that I like the FG blocks both ways, yet better w/ the block in the middle.

carriem 08-08-2012 05:33 PM

Everyone's blocks this week are great! I like both versions. :)

Now to unload the car, have just arrived home from my quilting club.

oksewglad 08-08-2012 09:03 PM

Oh oh such beautiful stunning blocks! Kudos to you all for getting them done!

QuiltingNinaSue 08-09-2012 03:40 AM

Looks great, Mirabelle. You have your square in the center, too, with the flying geese.

That was the way it worked out paper piecing the block, I tried to configure it the correct way but it wouldn't work. Oh well some of us have to be different:p

carriem 08-09-2012 04:02 AM

mirabelle--pretty blocks...more fussy cutting of bouquets, good job!! Looking forward to seeing them all together.

gardnergal970 08-09-2012 04:58 AM

I like the block in the middle the best. Mirabelle, the flowers just fit in the block and look like they were meant to be there. I'm looking forward to seeing your quilt. I have a feeling it will look classic.

dublb 08-09-2012 10:52 AM

Oh Mirabelle - I love 'em! Such nice points!

JeanieG 08-09-2012 11:50 AM

I am so in love with that fabric Mirabelle! Great job on your blocks.

mirabelle 08-09-2012 02:40 PM

Here are my blocks for Week 31. I'm almost caught up everyone - Yeah!!!

dublb 08-13-2012 08:31 PM

Oh wow Jeanie! Your just gallopin' right along there, aren't ya? Another pair o' beautiful blocks.

janRN 08-14-2012 04:34 AM

Love both blocks. Great fussy cutting on the NC block.

gardnergal970 08-14-2012 04:45 AM

Jeanie, your NC block is so peaceful with the color combinations. Both blocks are well done.

carriem 08-14-2012 06:47 AM

Jeanie--wow you are moving along on your blocks! Has to be a great feeling. :) Two more fun blocks.

oksewglad 08-17-2012 03:33 PM

Love the horse placement in the NC block. The simpler NDN will be a wonderful block to put next to a busier one. Great job of catching up!

Next Door Neighbor...this block was my last to finish. On one section I mixed up the middle colors and of course didn't realize it until I had added the other 3 fabrics and on PP'ing you can just take off the ones you mix up so....I had to take it all apart. Then I couldn't find a green triangle, cut another one, then realized I had written the wrong color in the wrong space so apart that came (triangle found)...let's just say I was ready for a long break after this one...it wasn't even that hard!! Just user error! :)

oksewglad 09-16-2012 08:47 AM

And now a touch of green in your quilt--You'll probably hate this block because of all the troubles you had with:mad: but you will remember it!!

dublb 09-17-2012 10:36 PM

Ahhhh, I think it's beautiful. Ya made great progress at your retreat.

NC Beauty...the pp templates are the same as the original so I got a square in the middle.

dublb 10-22-2012 10:38 AM

Oh, I like it!

oksewglad 10-22-2012 11:48 AM

So much fun to see your blocks, Carrie. Going to a sit and sew tomorrow and taking my PC's to work on. Maybe I will have some to post tomorrow night!

FWS = Farmer's Wife Sampler
This was the first quilt and book by Laurie Aaron Hird.

FWS Pony Club is the 2nd quilt and book by Laurie.

You can read more at her site
http://thefarmerswifequilt.blogspot.ca/

Many of the Ladies currently doing the FWS PC, also did or are doing the FWS.
You can see many completed FWS quilts here ...
http://www.quiltingboard.com/blocks-...e-t148904.html

The FWS PC has 90 blocks and this group has worked on it together since January and is almost thru the 90, at two per week. Some Ladies have all 90 done now ... and as for myself, I'm way behind on the dusty ol' trail!

QuiltE 10-22-2012 12:49 PM

CarrieM ... great block and wonderful contrasts.

OKSGlad ... Yippee for a sit and sew ... and hopefully some new ones to show us!

QuiltingNinaSue 10-22-2012 12:50 PM

Laurie Aaron Hird wrote the first book, "The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt Book" based on letters the farmers wrote for a contest in the Farmers Wife Magazine (1912 - 1939) era. Ms. Hird took these letters and based her quilt blocks on the Contest letters. Which we did first on QB, under the leadership of Honchey. Then the second book was published by her, called "The Farmer's Wife Pony Club Sampler Quilt" this one, we are about to finish in December
That is too long of a title to repeat every week, so it has become FWS PC. It is based on the pony contest by the same magazine, where a boy or girl could sell subscriptions to the magazine and earn a pony, saddle, cart and harness.

Hope this helps to understand the title.

When two or three post ahead while I am typing, just shows how slow I am...sorry, it is all my error...:o

JeanieG 10-22-2012 01:48 PM

Naw QNS, you gave a much more thorough explanation for Jane! That is all good!

QuiltingNinaSue 10-22-2012 02:03 PM
