Rain or shine, many I know start the morning with a cup of coffee (or hot tea, cocoa) and the there is a rambling road that gathers no moss (unless they ramble through Hartford where the Moss sisters and brother live across the road from us) Roll on wagon wheels, roll on.

QNS I love those blocks!! You're choice of fabrics always makes me smile. And the fussy cutting--wow!! Great job.

QNSue..your blocks looked so different I had to look to make sure I was at the same week. Your fabric tells a story every time. JanR...How do you decide which quilting design to use on each block? I'm a little intimidated by that but don't want stippling all of the time. I'm using the Baptist Fan right now on my DGD quilt and like it a lot but I know I will get tired of that too. |
Ggal, I love your blocks but especially the dark florals in Rambling Roads. Great job on both.
Hmm, quilting designs. I just look at the block and then wing it. I always hand quilted and each block had it's own quilting. I can't get used to all-over quilting on a quilt (just me, it's actually quite lovely when done well--no offense meant to anyone who does all-over quilting). I have a lot of templates that I use or use parts of them. I have a box with old CDs, heart shaped boxes, leaves, plastic plates in various sizes, etc., and I use those to trace around. I read somewhere that if the block has lots of squares or angles, the quilting should be round or swirly. I don't follow that--I just do what I like and what the block "says". Not much of an answer, right LOL???? |
QNS--You always use such fun fabrics and great fussy cutting!
Jan--I really like the pink (purple?) background fabric in RR and your quilting in RorS gives the block a curved look...like it! Ggal--You have some "Carrie color" fabrics. :) I have always like paisleys too! Great job! |
QNS - love the story behind your blocks. So much fun to see what you come up with each week. Jan - Great contrast in your blocks. Love the quilting you are doing too. GGal - I'm with Carrie on your paisley - I love paisley too, great fabric choice. My blocks are cut out, but I won't get them sewn this week. We are going on a trip, so hopefully will get them sewn when I get home next week.
|
QNS - Your fabric choices are so youthful. They make me think they were made by someone in their late 20's or early 30's. Your youthful heart is showin' through.
Jan - That pink took me by surprise, yet I think it will really look great in your quilt. Your Rain or Shine block is classy. Your quiltin' is makin' me rethink my plan ta SID. I wanted the piecin' ta be the focus. Your quiltin' is just wonderful. GG - I think that Carrie rubbed off on ya last week! Your blocks are just about perfect. |
As always, Ladies, you never fail to please!
Such a variety in colours, fabrics and placement choices, that ITA one starts to wonder if they are really the same blocks ... or subs! JanRN ... I'm wanting to do more of my own machine quilting, so one of these times you'll have to show us your magical box of supplies you use! |
Beautiful blocks as always Ggal 970
|
It isn't only Carrie that rubbed off but Lynn with Kansas Troubles. Seeing her beautiful quilts was so inspiring and then my LQS has expanded their Civil War fabrics and there is a much wider selection. Just wait to see the blocks in the coming weeks. It's so fun to work with the new fabrics.

Think I have problems with CW fabric...the BOM Civil war journal started in January, became a UFO in March, and ever since it has been laid away in a box...way down on the list to do. Wish I were closer to some of you, and will help it might see daylight. I paid the monthly BOM charges for two, bf & I, and she never had time to do it with me after the March session, so I just dumped the packages of material and patterns into a box. Now she is slowly recovering from her major surgery, her stitches come out today. And here sister and her are quilting on projects together.
Enough UFOs to keep me busy in that quilt room. Hope to finish several soon....especially for gs. |

Lots of chatter this week...I like it... All the blocks are the same pattern and the fabrics make them so very different...I finally got this block finished...I had a very difficult time of it...I mirror imaged it and found that very confusing...I just couldn't get it put together correctly...after pressing it and looking at it I said to myself "how did you manage to get it backwards after all that planning". Now when I look at it in the photo after scanningit...it's the way I planned it...What is wrong with me!!!! Now to conquer the second one for this week...

Perfection!!!!!!! Perfect colours/fabrics. Perfect points. Perfectly Honchey! I would love to see these fabrics in a whole quilt top ... so beautiful.. |
'perfecto', again, Anne!! Nice colors, perfect block.
|
Gosh that came out gorgeous Anne! Love those colors!
|
It's beautiful Anne. I think that it will accent your quilt wonderfully.
|
Thanks, all of you for the compliments...I wanted to do something different and it turned out very nice.. so say all of you :).. I happened to be going thru some scraps for my Postage stamp squares and they just happened to find their way to the top.
|
QNSue...which civil war journal BOM did you start? I found several different ones. Are you still getting monthly packages?
|
I think that last one came called "9" 'cause it pieced the quilt together and bound it. It told the story of the Civil War from the children's point of view... from Homestead Hearth in Mexico, Mo., and was sold to other quilt shops to sell...and I found it at the Quilted Kitty in Lincoln, NE. It was even on QB, but no one posted any progressive photos.

Beautiful block Anne, don't worry you were not alone having problems with this block, I just couldn't get it straight in my head. One of my roses is going the wrong way and I am not unpicking it. It took me all afternoon just to sew this one block. Not happy with my choice of blue fabric but I am having to use what I have and that is not much.
DD is coming home tomorrow to help me with my Jamestown so may not get my next PC block made until Monday.. too many projects not enough hours in a day.. |
Oh MiraB ... absolutely gorgeous ... and I don't see any roses going the wrong way. I like them like that!! :) Glad that you have your DH home again for a few days. Might I wask, what is Jamestown that he'll be helping you with? ENJOY your time with him!! :)
|
Mirabelle, I can hear those sewing machines humming clear across the waters. What fun it is to have your DD as your partner for such a large project! BTW, I like the little touch of blue in this weeks block. Very nice.
QNS, I think I found the correct Civil War BOM. I don't care for the large quilt either. There doesn't seem to be much contrast. Marcus Brothers has good quality fabric though so maybe the best use would be to forget the quilt and use the fabric in other projects. Too bad though since you've paid for the entire package. And there are other designers of CW fabric that you might like. Some are more colorful. |

I am making the same quilt and DD is spending the day at home tomorrow and we are going to try and get some of mine made. DD tweaked the pattern a little and it looks nothing like the original. It's good to have you back on the chat, I have missed you |

QuiltE, Jamestown Landing is a quilt pattern by Bonnie Hunter, it is in her new book String Fling, but about 12 months ago featured in an Australian magazine. DD and I spent the weekend at a retreat 2 weeks ago and we pieced her whole quilt top, I did post photos of it but I can't remember which week:rolleyes:

It's good to have you back on the chat, I have missed you I was thinking maybe Jamestown was a machine ... eventually I;ll catch up on old threads. And imagine, I got your DD and DH switched around ... so used to your DH coming and going that I did not read carefully. :( It;s good to be back ... sort of ... just wish that I could be back and SEWING!!!!!!! |
OOOOHhhhhhhhhhhhh I love the variations of Rambling Road :D Great job ladies :D
|
QuiltE that's ok, DH has been home for the past few weeks, he had to use up some of his holiday leave. He has trimmed all the trees and palms and tidied up our yard while he has been home. We are getting ready for the wet season. He goes back to work on Wednesday and life will return to normal for me.

Poor guy ... that almost sounds like you're glad to see him gone!! Oh Oh!!!!!!!!!! |
Honchey--I really like your fabric choices! Very pretty block.
Mirabelle--I think your roses will work out just fine in your finished quilt...also agree with Ggal that the light blue is a nice touch. |

That's ok QuiltE, I must admit (not to him though) that I enjoy the peace and quiet while he is at work and most importantly next to no cooking and cleaning and washing etc etc oops you didn't hear me say that:eek:
:D:D Roll on Wednesday I'm sure at times you must feel you live two lives .... the single woman, foot loose and fancy free! ... and then when he comes home, back to being married! :) The problem being that you have more time on your own, and thus, when he comes back, it seems like an interruption to the norm! Poor Guy ... though I'm sure he understands! :) |

We have been married almost 35 years so I am sure he understand me by now, and we have been living this life for almost 10 years, when he is home he goes fishing a lot or potters in the garden, he caught some nice fish this time, mainly barramundi. We have always had seperate interests and hobbies.
A good match, that's been working for a long time! Here's to many more happy years together, for the two of you!! |

(NB, have a look at the 'claws' on the bottom right block, bottom row... you have them the wrong way around dear) xxx |
You are mistaken Jacquie...my block has an ingrown claw! have to take it to the doctor :)
What does NB stand for? |
Mirabelle--looks like a very good catch. I showed my son (12 yrs, the fisher in our family) and he said "those are some nice fish!" Then said he thought they looked like bass. We had to look up some more pictures of barramundi. He just brought up a catfish (~3lbs) from the river. I guess he thought we needed to fill the spot in the freezer from lunch today. :)

Carriem that was yesterdays catch and this is what he brought home just now, he is downstairs filleting them now, you can't beat fresh fish
|
Honchey...I saw the ingrown too but had to look hard to find it. I don't think the doctor is necessary!
