I'm so sorry that ya are having migraines, Carrie. I mostly haven't had any in the last 18 years. For me it was the sugar that was giving 'em to me.
Givo, I'm so sorry that your mask is giving ya those headaches. That is horrible!

QuiltingNinaSue 06-13-2020 10:09 AM

It has been a while since I checked in, and delighted to find several pages to read. Thanks for the heads up jon the new quilt book, I will check into that. I am learning to 'shop' in my deep freezers and Canning room before going to town to shop. It sure helps on what we spend for food.I finally finished my Squares for the Frolic, Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt, now to put it together. And to do the borders. Then start on the next two, since I opt to use my stash, and then do the two Frolic kits I got from Quilted Twin's shop. One twin is in Poland (?), the other is in Florida running the shop. Both have married minister (and a missionary) . They send out the most informative newsletters and the 'specials' of the the thousand bolt store. I find the 'old age' is creeping up on me, and that I don't sew as fast now, and haven't had one top finished for over a year. Shocking. And those twins I was speaking of...finish more than a hundred every year for charity. I am admirer (in awe) of people who do that goodwill gesture.

carriem 06-13-2020 04:43 PM

dublb--mine are mostly hormonal, but then I have some that are more seasonal too as I usually get them in the spring worse than anytime rest of the year...

QNS--you have always been a busy woman all the years I have known you (quilting, gardening, flowers, etc, etc) and always so generous! It is ok that you are slowing down a bit. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

givio 06-13-2020 06:58 PM

Carrie said 'all the years I've known you' so I looked at some of our QB join dates. QNS, happy anniversary this month-- 10 years here! :-) And dublb and Jeanie at 10 years aready. OK a year longer! And SBG wins for the 'gift of gab' with the most posts. lol

dublb 06-13-2020 09:22 PM

Wow! That's a lotta water under the bridge! I have learned so very much! I have to say the single most pivotal project, for teaching me about quilting, was the FWPC! And to think it is still a UFO!

sewbizgirl 06-14-2020 10:11 AM

My pony club quilt is still a UFO too, Bev. I am going to be finishing my FW30s quilt today, then maybe I'll get back on the pony club quilt. I have two bins of really great fabrics for it. I went with a family farm, kid's ponies theme, rather than any cowboy theme. It can be hard to find farm horse fabric that isn't 'cowboy'.

Cant wait to get the 1930's quilt done and show you all! It's 2/3 of the way quilted. It's the prettiest quilt I've ever made.

JeanieG 06-14-2020 10:39 AM

I am in the same boat as most of you! I made all of my FWS quilts into two lap quilts rather than one big one. I still have the second Pony Club Quilt to quilt. It is the one without any pony fabric in it. The flimsy was completed in Jan 2014!! LOL

The Farmer's Wife 30's quilt was completed in May 2018 and is still a flimsy also. I did all the squares for that one, but did not use them all in the quilt, so it is smaller also.

At least everything I started is in the flimsy stage! But I have 16 that still need to be quilted (ugh)! It has been too hot here to work on them.

carriem 06-14-2020 01:39 PM

I missed out on the original FW quilt. But I did the Pony Club with many of you. I made 2 twin-size quilts that get switched out in my living room on the build in day bed. I have maybe 30 blocks done for the FW 30s quilt...I forget now how many I need to make for the pattern I drew up.. I really should get those done before starting the new FW Medallion blocks, but we'll see, I am pretty excited for the new one. I think I found the fabrics I want to use. Just want to call my local quilt shop Monday to see what she has in the store before I buy online.

Looks like we will be starting a 2nd group for the Round Robin in the next month or so...just need 1-2 more people and we'll be able to get started. That should be fun to do too. Anyone here up for joining?

JeanieG 06-14-2020 02:32 PM

Do you know if there is a group doing the new FW Medallion quilt here on the board??? I might be interested! I really have missed having an ongoing project like this, as I did not do the last Bible Quilt. I think it is kind of cool - a medallion center, then 8" blocks, then 6" blocks!!!

carriem 06-14-2020 03:31 PM

Jeanie--I like the altering block size rounds too. Plus the light/dark variation for the blocks to make each round stand out that she did.

I don't see a started group, but could start one if you'd like? The book just came out so in May so people may not know about it yet. Can I just post it or do I need to get permission from the moderators? I've never started a thread on this group. :) It would help me stay motivated/moving forward. Plus it is so fun to watch other's progress each week!! I won't be making all the blocks, but I can still post each week of which block #s to make. Do you think 2/week is a good way to do it? Maybe 1-8" and 1-6" until the 8" are all made then finish up the 6"?? There are 64-6" and 56'6" blocks to make plus the 18" center block and a few of the borders have some piecing to do for the queen size. There is a lap size pattern too.

I have altered the queen size to make it like a large lap/twin size. I'll end up making 36 blocks of each size. I'll be doing paper pieced blocks as usual...I don't have the patience for templates. :)

How nice of you to offer. Yes, you need to contact PatriceJ for permission. She will want to see a draft of the post before you can post it. And she may tell you which thread group to post it under. It should be the same as this thread, but may not be.

Annnnnnnddddd.... (drumroll please).... here is my finally finished FW30s quilt, all done. I put 80 of the 100 blocks in it, and changed the setting to simplify it and make it have less white background.

The first pic is the whole quilt, and the other two are close ups of parts.

carriem 06-14-2020 06:23 PM

SBG--I posted on the UFO thread too, but this is so pretty!! It makes me want to pull out my blocks again and see how many more I actually need!! DD agreed to a large lap quilt instead of a queen so that will help in finishing mine a littler more quickly. :)

For the new FW Medallion quilt BOTW, do we want to do it like we did the Pony Club one, where I post a new thread every week? Or just keep them all in one thread? I don't know what would be easiest...

JeanieG 06-14-2020 07:19 PM

SBG - I love your FW30's quilt! I've got to get mine out and look at it again, and get it quilted!!!

Carrie - I don't know what would be best - one thread, or one each week. It may depend on how many we get to participate. Maybe send out a thread asking who would be interested. Anyone else have suggestions??

oksewglad 06-15-2020 02:30 PM

A wonderful finish, SBG! And an inspiration to others to get it done! Thanks for posting!

Just got home from work...house is quiet. I fixed breakfast for 9 before leaving for work. Adult children cleaned up and are now up to FarmerSon's place to get ready for graduation reception on Saturday!

dublb 06-15-2020 05:00 PM

SBG! That's adorable!

I love all the family celebrations that are happening in lieu of school graduations. So much more personal. The grad is the special one, and not just one of 300 or so. Hope your family has a great party for your grad.

JeanieG 06-16-2020 10:33 AM

The Farmer's Wife Homestead Medallion Quilt Book is on sale on Amazon for $18.99. I just ordered it! Hopefully we can get a group started. Looking forward to it!

carriem 06-16-2020 10:55 AM

Jeanie, I am working on the "announcement post" to send to Patrice...she said yes we can start one, but since I haven't led a group before she just wants to review my post. :) I went back and found Anne's for ideas on wording. My dentist appt got moved to this morning so that meant while I was in town I had to get groceries so my morning disappeared rather quickly!! I'll try to get that to Patrice by the end of the day and hopefully get the thread started tomorrow. I'll be sure to post the link here!

The story that goes along with these blocks is very interesting!

QuiltingNinaSue 06-16-2020 12:47 PM

How exciting to do another quilt together! I probably have all the fabric I need, but the time??? I will order the book and see from there, I guess. If I don't do it, I will follow the thread. Have two half blocks done for BH Frolic borders. Cleaned up the sewing room. Made another meat dish for DH yesterday and baked about 100 Honey do Cookies (that is what I called them.) Reading on my kindle today and it 'died' before I finished the book. Boo Hoo. Have my cell phone and kindle on recharging now. We planted two new Heirloom roses this morning. Would pictures of the blooming lilies, but I don't know how on the new format. I am so happy the lilies are filling up perennial beds. Asianic (sp) in one bed, and tiger lilies in the other, except one tiger has sprung up in the wrong bed. Onlys there is one. (Doesn't matter the crowd or what unit we do!)

JeanieG 06-16-2020 01:51 PM

Watch out when you order the new FW Homestead Medallion Quilt Book. I got the Kindle Version, thought I was getting the actual book. It is okay, as all the templates and paper piecing pages are on another website. You download them to your computer - one file for paper piecing and one for the templates. So different from the last one I did which were on a CD. Just a head's up for you guys.

sewbizgirl 06-16-2020 02:43 PM

I've got to finish my Pony Club quilt before I start another Laurie Hird quilt. But I will be watching all the progress of everyone else. Carrie, once you get the thread, please post the link here and I'll bookmark it. Thanks.

QuiltingNinaSue 06-16-2020 03:57 PM

Yes, JeanieG, I noted the price and had the chance of getting a used book, like new, for $26.71 shipped to me between June 30-July 8th. I have an old Kinkle, inherited from daughter and grandson when they updated. It is a good experience to try one. And its still working. I still have the remainder of the 1930s blocks to put together and about 1 1 /3 of the way in the Bible Quilt. And finishing up on BH Frolic quilt. If I can get myself into the sewing room, I might make more progress.

carriem 06-16-2020 04:58 PM

Oh Jeanie I am sorry that happened! I saw there were both options and decided to spend a little more for the real book. It is nice to be able to just download the blocks this time. I have sent off my post to Patrice for approval. :)

SBQ and QNS I don't need to start another FW quilt yet either, but need something to jump start my desire to quilt! Between this and the RR I can't wait (haven't been this excited to quilt in a long time!!)...I got the cards I needed to make finished today, cleaned up all my card making stuff and other little messes in my craft room and am all ready to get started sewing again. Today I also got my pattern for my center block printed for the RR. Working on ironing fabrics tonight and going to make time tomorrow morning before running errands to get everything cut. Then I should be able to sew in the afternoon. I have picked out fabrics for the new FW quilt...stopping at the local quilt shop tomorrow to see what she has in-stock and will order anything else I need before the week is over. Oh and while waiting to go into the dentist today I picked out the blocks I am going to make so that part is done and I can start printing PP patterns.

JeanieG 06-16-2020 06:03 PM

I agree Carrie, I am really getting excited to start this quilt also. I have a whole dresser full of less than fat quarter fabrics that I am going to use. Will the first block be the 15" center, then build from there? It is such an amazing quilt!

carriem 06-17-2020 03:20 AM

Here is the official announcement post for the FW Medallion BOTW: https://www.quiltingboard.com/blocks...ml#post8394120

Jeanie, I was going back and forth on starting with the 18" center block or not. As of right now I have it written to make the blocks in numerical order. (ie Wk 1 Blocks 1&2). Maybe we can start with Block #93 (center block) so we have something to give us inspiration. :) I'll go back and add that.

JeanieG 06-17-2020 10:45 AM

Carrie, maybe you can ask those that sign up what they would rather do? I don't think it matters, as the blocks are scattered all over the layout. I had trouble finding #1 block - LOL! We are really going to have to label each block on the back with the #, so it can be placed correctly according to the grid! Doing them in order makes real sense with so many blocks to make.

If anyone is interested here are the cards I made the last couple weeks. I had someone hire me to make 10-12 (I accidentally did 13). :) I haven't made any cards in a while...it was fun to dig through my collection of stamps, papers and embellishments!!

sewbizgirl 06-17-2020 04:41 PM

Those are sweet cards, Carrie. Handmade cards are special. My daughter loves to make them, too.

JeanieG 06-17-2020 06:29 PM

Carrie - great job on the cards, another great hobby!

dublb 06-18-2020 05:50 AM

Carrie; First I looove your cards. Second; While I am not up to doing another quilt right now I did subcribe to your thread. I do plan on following along.

I have had a crazy busy week! This weekend is gonna be crazy busy also! I have had a family reunion planned for a looong time. I decided to rent the Pavillion out at the Lake Park. It is huge! We will be able to spread out. It is also gonna be very hot out there! I don't think any virus is gonna survive out there. There are about 30 coming! I haven't seen most of these people in 4 or 5 years. Some I haven't seen since I was a li'le girl!

carriem 06-18-2020 08:23 AM

dublb--Enjoy your family reunion. It is great you were able to put it together and people are still willing to attend! I have family in CO that were thinking about coming to IA this summer but not sure if they will make the trip yet or not...

Off to sew!!

sewbizgirl 06-18-2020 09:47 AM

That sounds wonderful, Bev. It's great your family gets together periodically to stay in touch. Hope all goes smoothly in the planning and you have a wonderful event!

givio 06-20-2020 05:49 PM

I'd prefer just one thread for the medallion FW quilt. It takes me some time to read through the RR thread, and because of it I haven't read this one in a few days. I'm not sure I have time to keep adding threads to my reading list! :-)

I've been going through boxes in the basement and came across today a box with my screens for making paper (using pulp from junk mail that you blend up in the blender). I also had a bunch of rubber stamps. I used to make stationary and cards-- but nothing like the ones you make, carriem. Yours are very special. I did the paper making long before scrapbooking became popular.

The Medallion Quilt thread has already been started and has two pages of text... It's here:

sewbizgirl 06-21-2020 08:40 AM

Everyone, Nan has asked me to start another thread (another continuation) for this group. She wants to close this thread, as it's become too large again. It will still be here for reading, you just won't be able to post on it. So here is the new place to continue our thread. For simplicity sake, I've titled it "Pony Club Thread 3".
https://www.quiltingboard.com/blocks...ml#post8395256
Please subscribe to the new thread, as this one will be closing shortly.

Keep 'talking'! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

sewbizgirl 06-21-2020 09:07 AM

*****meant "reading" old posts!

givio 06-21-2020 03:46 PM

SBG, Yeah, I saw the FW Medallion thread, but there was a comment in it for making that thread be for posting pictures, and having a second thread for chatting! I'd rather it just be one thread...
I'm quitting this thread and going to PC3 now.
