The fws pony club update photo - discussion - completed page: Continued

Here's another place to continue our group discussion, since our old thread seems to have reached it's limit. Chat on!

Honchey 08-01-2016 10:21 AM

Thanks Sewbiz for doing this..I guess we were on overload :D

QuiltingNinaSue 08-01-2016 11:24 AM

JanRN and Givio, your packages were sent out today and you should get them in three days.

Thanks SBG, for getting us back on line again here. I have missed our chats. No FW blocks to show this week..until later.

Yes, it was traumatic being without our thread! Hope all the gang finds us here.

I don't have blocks to show for this week yet, either. Tomorrow night is my charity quilters meeting and I need to get some stuff finished to take with me to donate, so I probably will be late getting my FWS blocks done this week.

Honchey, sorry you had a bad experience with the Boom swap. I'm hoping for the best. Mainly, I just want to play with making blocks with everyone else's fabrics for them. The fabric I'm sending in is some of the loot I got from Hancock's liquidation.

And I experimented with blowing up some FW1930's templates 200% and they came out perfect for 12.5" blocks. Here is the one I played with so far:

Remember this one? It's block #9, Autumn!

Today is so unbearably HOT here... even the dog doesn't want to go out.

oksewglad 08-01-2016 03:00 PM

Thanks SBG....aren't we quite a group?

Nice rendition for your swap...I haven't participated in the book swaps...years ago did the doll quilt swap and enjoyed it.

Honchey 08-01-2016 03:31 PM

Oooh it's so pretty..I think the fabrics have alot to do with it too!..

We, as a group and with the Quiltalong really occupied the Blocks of the Month & Week :D

All you see is FWS, FWS, FWS Ha ha, I laugh when I see all the threads :)

sewbizgirl 08-01-2016 05:26 PM

Everybody, I just got a message from Susan (JuneBillie) that her father died tonight. She asked me to tell you all for her, so I am... I know they have been expecting it, but it's still a shock when it happens and is final.

janRN 08-02-2016 04:21 AM

Glad I found yinz. After all the years we've spent together I can't imagine not talking to yinz at least once a week. So sorry for Susan's loss, and as you said it's still difficult even when expected. Let's enjoy today, remember fondly those we've lost, and give thanks and positive thoughts to those we love. I include yinz in my list of blessings.

sewbizgirl 08-02-2016 06:22 AM

You too, Jan. And glad you found the new thread.

JeanieG 08-02-2016 02:20 PM

Thanks for the link to this new thread. Got to get busy and take photos of my blocks and post. I cannot believe this is almost over! I have so many UFO's to get to work on. Can't wait to finish up some probjects.

sewbizgirl 08-02-2016 07:00 PM

Glad you found it, Jeanie...

Ah, Jan changed her avatar pic. Is that a new quilt you made with the license plate on it? I love mine!

givio 08-02-2016 07:40 PM

Thanks, QNS, I appreciate the trade of scraps.
SBG, As you know, I got your scraps, thanks again!
I hope the other girls got the license plates from Michigan. :-)
SBG I was thinking that if I expanded the templates 200%, then it would mean that the template wouldn't fit on normal size printing paper. I wanted to try it though, but didn't because I thought it wouldn't work. Did you do it on a regular home printer? I can't imagine how that would work on mine...
I'm with Jeannie. I have some blocks finished that I need to take pictures of and then post-- but looking forward to doing something else. It should be UFO's like Jeannie mentioned... but! I joined a Round Robin. So, I've been posting there in that Forum the last couple of weeks instead of here in the Blocks of Month and Week Forum.
I don't want to leave FWS unfinished though! Still planning to continue with it....
Susan, prayers that you will find the comfort you need at this difficult time.

So sorry, Susan...you will have some good memories to hold onto.

Oh sew good to see everyone chime in...like writing on a fresh piece of paper...kids called from Chicago...flight to home has been delayed could be 3:00a.m. before they get here...

Got a Kindle pic of the cow quilt...

janRN 08-03-2016 04:18 AM

OK, that cow is too darn cute!! Makes me smile.

SBG, I made that as a hanging for my front door--my neighbor's check out my door all the time to see what's new. They love this one.

givio 08-03-2016 05:13 AM

Jan, I was dreaming about changing up the hanging on my front door. I've got a full window on it, so it's perfect for hanging something. It's another one of those 'so many ideas, so little time' situations.
OkSG, the pinwheels really add a nice touch too. I've always liked the pink and brown combination. I was expecting to see black and white-- so got a pleasant surprise. :-)

sewbizgirl 08-03-2016 05:18 AM

Cute idea, Jan...

Gladie, the cow is adorable. Well done! Hope your kids arrived okay.

Givio, in order to blow up the templates I had to cut them apart and just do one or two at a time. It took several pieces of paper.

So... good morning everyone!

Honchey 08-03-2016 05:24 AM

Just got news from Patrice..She sent the report to the "Techies" to see if they can fix the problem..If they can, she will merge the 2 into one...

oksewglad 08-03-2016 05:44 AM

I noticed Jan's peace sign, too...

Thanks on the cow..years ago I was given the HST's...I found the pink fabrics to work with...then about 2 years ago I found the browns in my stash and the cow evolved...added the green cause a cow's gotta have grass....givio we have a herd of brown cows, not the generic b/w variety....

Kids missed flight last night due to delays...Will be here later this morning...not a good day with 3 little ones...Will be a busy 10-14 days..now to have spaghetti ready for lunch....

QuiltingNinaSue 08-03-2016 10:26 AM

Sounds like a good plan, Honchey.

JuneBilly, thinking of you and your loss; celebrate the good memories that you have had with your Dad.

OK, love that cute cow. Enjoy the children and hug them countess times a day .

Cleaned up lunch, now time to get myself back in the QR. Later.

sewbizgirl 08-03-2016 12:22 PM

Gladie, do you find yourself talking to the cows, asking them, "How now, brown cow?"

:D Sorry, I couldn't help myself! I'll go sit on my hands now...

Merging the threads would be great if they can do it. I just figured we had hit our limit... the brick wall at the end of the road. Maybe not...

Just fiished this wall hanging top.. It is pp'd and some of the sections just don't fit right even tho it finished correctly..The pattern maker messed up .. It's for the NC Vacation House..I will be big stitching it using floss thread by hand!!!:)

Love the new avatar Jan..

sewbizgirl 08-03-2016 04:52 PM

That's some great paper piecing, Honchey! Love that top.

dublb 08-03-2016 07:53 PM

Well I found ya'll. I thought I was just having trouble w/the satellite in Brady but when I got here in Midland yesterday it still didn't work. SO....I sent a PM to Honchey & ta-da.
I have some good news. The house had actually been on the market for one week. Wait, not even 1 week as that would be tomarrow. Any-way, we got a verbal offer today. :) I think we are gonna take it! We will probably have to deal w/all of this by e-mail as we are gonna head back to Brady tomarrow.

givio 08-03-2016 08:08 PM

Bev, one week, amazing! It must be a nice place.
SBG, you printed from the CD, then cut apart the templates, then scanned each individual template? Then set to print at 200%? I like your "How now" remark. lol
okSG, I've always preferred the brown cows at the fair. Jersey or Guersey?
Honchey, looks like Kaffe Fasset fabric. Love those prints.

oksewglad 08-03-2016 08:28 PM

Well the circular geese look just fine...we wouldn't have known any differently...

Wow Bev. That's great...

Guernseys, givio, except for the half dozen Jerseys our DDiL brought with her when she joined our family...have about 120 total, milking usually around 100...rest would be dry cows waiting the arrival of their next calves. This morning 2 calves...each with a heifer except not sure which one belongs to which cow...Will likely do DNA testing to determine parentage...we have the sire and dam info on all our animals plus who they are bred to...hot and sticky today...tomorrow's to be worse then cool off. Kids are having a great time together...

sewbizgirl 08-03-2016 10:01 PM

Bev, congrats on the sale of the house! No turning back now....

Gladie, what a lovely, lively place it sounds like you live in. All those cows, calves to keep straight, and now the grandchildren too. You must have boundless energy!

Givio said: SBG, you printed from the CD, then cut apart the templates, then scanned each individual template? Then set to print at 200%?
Yup, that's just how I did it. A bit of a pain, but it got the job done.I like the blocks at 12" too.

dublb 08-04-2016 04:24 PM

We signed the contract today. :) We did it electronically as we are back in Brady. Kinda neat!

sewbizgirl 08-04-2016 05:43 PM

So happy for ya, Bev! That was so quick. Short and sweet.

QNS I have two license plates for you but if you can hang on two more weeks, I will be at a show and I'm sure I'll find more. Can't wait for that show!

JeanieG 08-04-2016 06:55 PM

Great news Bev on your house. Bet your glad you don't have to go back and forth so much!

Honchey 08-05-2016 03:39 PM

I'm still amazed at what happened to my son's expected back surgery today... We were at the hospital at 6:30 this morning and he was prepped and ready to go in the OR ..10 minutes later he & the Dr are walking down the corridor and the Dr wants to talk to me in a private room..He tells me that the surgery is not necessary at this time because my son's body is healing itself and it is absorbing the herniated disc and for the time being he'll be getting epidurals? shots? and rest for the next 2-3 weeks..This was discovered in the MRI that was taken a couple of days ago... The Dr. said that this sometimes happens and that DS is one in a hundred that will experience...I think the GUY upstairs had something to do with it..I've been talking to Him alot lately.. Just had to share this with all of you...

sewbizgirl 08-05-2016 05:06 PM

Yes, God answers prayer! Sounds pretty great, to me. So glad for your son to have avoided surgery. It must have been a shock to see him and the dr. walking around when you expected him to be in surgery. :D A good shock!

My son moved to Memphis today, three hours away. He's 26 but had some false starts and hard knocks and due to that, has been living with us again for the past 6 months. He's the 'baby' and we are very close to him, but he got a job in Memphis and had to go. He will be living with our oldest and her husband. My other son and his wife also live there, so all three of our kids have ended up in Memphis! It's 3.5 hours away, so close enough to visit... but we'll miss having our youngest at home. He was such a blessing to his dad and me. Trying not to be sad, but the last one has left the nest... again.

QuiltingNinaSue 08-05-2016 06:09 PM

SBG, your always sound so young in your messages here, I cannot imagine Kids and grandchildren...but I dwell in past times and not always moving on with ages of younger members...realizing, yes, time does past all too soon many times.

Sweet corn is all done and in the freezer; I did it all by myself! This day is done and I am going to bed. Good night all.

oksewglad 08-05-2016 06:59 PM

Life is full of changes....so glad for your sons, Honchey and SBG....every chapter of our lives reveals a lesson....

Tonight my lesson is to step outside and move away from the chaos....biggest discussion was who was sleeping where amongst the kids...noise level was beyond my tolerance level...I don't do well with whiners and the 2 5yo's were testing my limit... I went to my room and closed the door...don't know if I was missed...if those two were mine they would've had spankings...but they are not...in the end all's well and the 9 of them are sleeping in tents up the road...adults and a 2 yo are here...such drama.....Will go join the rest of the world...

sewbizgirl 08-05-2016 07:27 PM

Lol, I am 60 this year, QNS... but feel very young most times.

Gladie, sounds like you are experiencing 'too much togetherness'... how much longer? I'm still waiting for grandkids, but I've heard you love to see them come, and also to see them go! I agree, there is not nearly enough 'behavior modification' for children these days (spankings) and as a result we get little tyrants. Great to send them off to a tent down the road... HA HA HA. :D

givio 08-05-2016 07:30 PM

Honchey, great news! :-)
SBG, *Sigh* yes, I can identify with the feeling... I miss my boys. It's never the same when they are independent, married, in their own home, have their own family. Sometimes I really miss them, being home, young, around every day...
I've got 5 granddaughters. They behave... but, oh, the energy! I get tired if I have to take care of them a few hours. I can't carry around little ones on my hip like I used to.

oksewglad 08-05-2016 08:45 PM

All is quiet....While waiting for the torch to be lit I put the last stitch on my big mini quilt....5,382 1" squares, 284 2", and 284 2" x 5" rectangles and 71 8" squares...cut sizes....photo later...I'm sleeping under it tonight

givio 08-06-2016 05:17 AM

okSG, That's a masterpiece! :-) Looking forward to seeing it! What was the finished size? It sounds like it could be a queen size, but I'm not good with math.

sewbizgirl 08-06-2016 06:19 AM

I want to see it too! I love scrappy quilts. Can't imagine what 5000+ 1" squares looks like.

I have a wedding gown to shorten and am procrastinating.... Wedding gowns always make me procrastinate. The bride to be got all swoony during her fitting and we had to stop before I was done marking the top layer of the skirt hem. Hope I can figure it out anyway.

Honchey 08-06-2016 06:50 AM

OK, Is this the quilt with the different sized squares with the black background?

I can remember many a night in my young days, 6/7 yrs, sleeping on mattresses that were pulled off the beds and layed end to end on the floor and all my cousins sleeping in one room, 16 of us..We had alot of fun then.. didn't get much sleep but hey!! we were young then.. :)

oksewglad 08-06-2016 11:03 AM

I think I shared the flimsy... the little 9P's were in a pickle jar and I used 9 in a block, then alternated the blocks with a red print....and yes it is Queen sized...have all 10 right now....parents went for sibling time...now to get nap time for the littlest ones....later...
