A swoony bride-to-be... :-))))
I don't remember seeing the flimsy. Well, the finished item is always worth a picture too. :-)

oksewglad 08-06-2016 12:29 PM

When I get some free time, givio I will take one...right now 2 yo is sleeping under it...

Aw... now that would make a great picture!

Givio, you have no idea how often those brides get swoony. I worked at a bridal shop and if you had to work on the fitting longer than about 20 minutes, they start dropping like flies! I don't know if it's the excitement, or they get hot, or what, but it happens a lot. We gave out a lot of bottles of water.

dublb 08-06-2016 07:14 PM

I am very tired tonight. I taught a class today. Gosh It amazes me how much that takes outta me.

Hmmm, OK I do seem to kinda remember a pict of a ton of 9 patches in a pickle jar but it does seem that it was a looong time ago. I sure am looking forward to the finished pict. :)

Look what I played with today... Bought the pattern a couple weeks ago and dug in today. I used 8 of my license plates and constructed it differently than the pattern, but it's coming along pretty well! This is just the 'outer' part of the bag. The lining will be made separately with a zippered pocket and two other pockets for stash, then inserted and connected with a binding around the top. Nice size tote and I can enjoy the plates that didn't go into my quilt. There are also patterns out there for smaller bags with just one or two plates-- zip pouches and wallets, I think. Hope you like it, so far.

Plates from all over! Thanks for sending them.

That looks great SBG! I'm making a wall hanging for my sewing room with mine, as soon as I finish with the FWS 30's blocks. Only 3 more to go and we will be done, done, done!!! Yay!

QuiltingNinaSue 08-07-2016 05:27 AM

My Quilt room is a mess yet; cannot do any FW blocks...still searching for things I 'put up' so I could find them.

JanRN, the package of brown legal sized padded envelop was sent out for delivery, but I may have misaddressed it 'cause it was was undeliverable by the PO tracking. Maybe you can still contact the PO Monday and get a hold of it, I hope. Please let me know if my childhood blonde moments addressed it wrong.

Much too do; so little time. One step at a time. Have a great Sunday and family dinners.

Sweet corn is all done and in the freezer; I did it all by myself! This day is done and I am going to bed. Good night all.

How did you freeze your sweetcorn? One time I got some from a lady that was moving and she was emptying her freezer - she had frozen the WHOLE thing. It tasted like fresh from the field.

Thank you, Jeanie! See your plate on there?

Once the blocks are done for our FWS30s, we will still have the job of setting them! Ugh. I much prefer making them. :D

QuiltingNinaSue 08-07-2016 08:56 AM

DBG, I would rather make and design blocks than put them together or sew into a quilt top. Love your bag idea, and I think you did a wonderful job on your bag. You get to carry a reminder of us all with you on F A R T trips...if you don't understand what that stands for ask JanRN.

I remember your squares, OK, but when you get time, it would be nice to see the whole quilt.

Back at my Quilt Room, where I am going as slow as the slowest snail in the world. LOL!

F A R T= Fabric Acquisition Road Trip? Not too hard to figure out! There are three quilt shows coming up here this month, the next month, and the next. The bag will come in handy and I'll probably see others like it!

Yes, I think of yinz when I see the plates.

JuneBillie 08-07-2016 11:32 AM

Hello all. We buried our dad Thursday. He had a nice service. I am slowly trying to get back into things, but it takes time, and in spurts.

I have been viewing all the pretty things made since I have been away. I will be sending out those things I have together of the scraps requested.

Have a nice Sunday.

Take time for yourself, Susan. I know you will miss your Dad. So good that you had those last visits with him! I think he was preparing to go. Will be thinking of you, dear friend.

I got the lining in my RxR license plate bag. It's done! Two nice zip pockets inside plus a deep pocket for phone and/or glasses. Ok I'm ready to go to the quilt show... or SHOPPING.

JuneBillie - I feel for you, dear friend! Been there, done that! So sad!

Thank you for the kind comments SBG and JeanieG.
That is a beautiful bag SBG.

sewbizgirl 08-08-2016 09:08 PM

Ha ha, QNS! You always find the good ones.

sewbizgirl 08-09-2016 07:08 AM

Good morning everyone! Another Tuesday... another two blocks due! And I haven't even started, as usual. We are almost to the finish line.

Hubby's birthday is Saturday so I need to get busy making him a shirt I bought fabric for (he knows it's coming). Also need to finish the patriotic wall hanging I started for him. It has a big embroidery in the center but I need to finish all the rest of it to make it a wall quilt (he doesn't know that is coming!) And he wants a MY PILLOW. :D Gotta stop procrastinating and get these projects made.

Hope you all have a good day today. The little break in the heat and humidity has really been a blessing.

oksewglad 08-09-2016 08:22 AM

Silence for a short while...DS#2 and wife took the 10 cousins to the park to play...they will have lunch in town..GS#1 has a one o'clock band practice so will roll that all into one trip..we live 10 miles from our closest town, so nice when trips consolidate..DD left for an overnight trip to Toronto...she and their 2 will be in and out til Sunday...DS crew leave tomorrow a.m....big girls are working on a quilt session...planning their word play quilts..Em is making a full size quilt..N a lap...and El a lap....Will pull out some fabrics for them to play with while it's quiet....thank goodness I didn't work this week...I'm tired and will need some recoup time ....last night aunt and cousin were over for supper...easy meal of subway type sandwiches with left over chicken, beef, dried beef and fresh fruit served buffet style...tonight's meal is lasagna with corn....have fresh tomatoes and cucumbers so that's at every meal...should check pole beans....soon excitement will be over and life will return to normal...have a good day..

sewbizgirl 08-09-2016 09:17 AM

Bless your heart, Gladie! Hope your strength, energy and patience will hold out. Surely school will start soon. Our local schools started back up this week. (So early!)

Those granddaughters will always remember their early quilting lessons with their cousins at your house. :o

givio 08-09-2016 04:09 PM

Oksewglad, Are you still alive after that? :-)

oksewglad 08-09-2016 05:21 PM

Yes I'm still alive...this afternoon the 3 oldest girls and I went on a FART for the unruly letters project...fun to see what they've picked out...DIL brought home lots of sweet corn tonight...we'll see how many quarts to do tomorrow...not in my plans for the day...oh well....

dublb 08-09-2016 10:29 PM

Monday, DH & I bought some garden soil & put it in one of the raised beds that we brought from Midland. We then planted some black eyed peas. Gosh I am sure looking forward to a pot of fresh black eyed peas! (Tuesday) DH decided to go & visit one of his mentors. He had a stroke. DH drove to Midland & back in one day. Wed we are planning on building an 8ft fence to keep the deer away from the raised beds. I know that we don't have the other raised beds filled as of yet but it is better to get the fence around all of 'em now.

janRN 08-10-2016 04:06 AM

Good morning, ladies, glad to see all of you well and very busy. It's so hot & humid here already this morning. My 50th class reunion (OMG I'm old!!!) is this week-end. Just found out my "first love" will be there; is it too late to lose 20 pounds and get a face lift???

I finished all the FWS 1930s blocks and now need a new project. Any suggestions? It's not like I don't have 100s of patterns downloaded or purchased and have EQ7 and other CAD programs. I just haven't found something that jumps out at me. I've always wanted to do a New York Beauty but that seems more like a winter project. Maybe I'll make some runners or wall hangings out of some orphan blocks--and I have tons of them.

Enjoy your day--do something you love.

sewbizgirl 08-10-2016 05:34 AM

Good morning friends!

Bev, deer are a problem here too, garden-wise. We were just watching two in the yard this morning! We gave up on having a garden because they eat everything. All but the cukes, for some reason. Maybe they don't like the prickly leaves? Anyway, the dog woke us up, alerting us we had "friends" in the yard....

Jan, I planned to do a Civil War sampler once the 1930's blocks were done. The book I have is much simpler than Laurie Hird's books. BUT, I joined the boom swap for the first time, and those fabrics will be arriving soon. That should keep me busy for a while. My Civil War quilt might have to wait.

I have so many tops to quilt, too!

Hubby's birthday is Saturday. I got his gift shirt made yesterday but have a wall hanging to finish up for him now too. Lots to do! And we won't even talk about the wedding gown I've got hanging here to alter! LOL.

Have a happy day....

QuiltingNinaSue 08-10-2016 07:25 AM

JanRN, I think Honchey is looking at Gypsy Wife; pricey little booklet. Interesting 'throw things together' look to me. It might be good to use up some scraps. Undecided on it.

Also have 17 dozen projects to choose from. Trying to finish Savannah. Threaded up my old reliable Berina 1530 to start ?????? Finish FW 1930, or Savannh or ???

DH keeps filling up the island sinks with produce from the garden: potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh peaches...trying to find more work for me to do, I guess. Too much to do, so I will read one of my books for a while and do nothin' but think on it. You'all have been just too busy and someone needs to rest up for you to do more! LOL!

Honchey 08-10-2016 08:27 AM

Hi Everyone and especially Jan, I'm hoping to start a "followalong" doing the "Gypsy Wife" starting this fall..I have most of my fabrics and some things cut.. Pinterest has a tutorial blog type page with monthly projects doing it section wise..You do need the pattern tho because it can get a little tricky if you don't.. It is pricy but I got mine secondhand for $10 at "sewitsforsale.com"..I put in a request and was lucky enough to find someone willing to part with it.. The quilt itself looks rather complicated but when broken down into sections it isn't..strips are narrow & long and to keep from getting curved you would have to remember to alternate direction in sewing them..Lots of small blocks but they are simple ones.. Looking forward to doing it

sewbizgirl 08-10-2016 03:31 PM

Don't think I will be "in" for the Gypsy Wife quiltalong... will just watch some of you create it.

I'll probably work on my Hawaiian applique quilt and try to get some other projects that are just for ME finished... like the FWS 30's quilt!

Dinnertime... salmon, salad and butterbeans tonight! Yum.

givio 08-10-2016 04:50 PM

Jan, "lose 20 pounds and get a face lift" hahahaha I think we all watch too many movies. Who do you know that has a face lift? I guess I don't run in that kind of jet set. All the girls I know have gravity affecting them, faces included...

My next project is going to be the Round Robin. I've got distracted from the FWS blocks by it. It won't be nearly so time consuming, so I'll be able to gradually finish up the FWS blocks during the same time. I do like the Gypsy Wife quilt, but I'd just as soon make something similar to it myself, rather than paying for a specific pattern to recreate it exactly.

dublb 08-10-2016 05:17 PM

Instead of getting the PVC for the fence we worked on the catch barrel today. It is used to catch grey water from the washing machine. We haven't had one set up for 3 years. The house on Sentinel had the washer & dryer in the house. Anyway it has a connection on the bottom for a water-hose. I can, to a certain degree, move the hose to the things I want watered on the east side of the house. We had to redo it once. Actually there might have been 3 different things that could have made it over flow. So we redid all three to cover all the bases. We bought a new water-hose, put the barrel on a platform that raised it 5 more inches, & redid the piece of PVC we had attached to the drain hose. It now works like a dream.
Then this evening we went to water the peas & they are up! Yikes! Have ya ever heard of black ey
ed peas coming up in 3 days?

oksewglad 08-10-2016 05:55 PM

Sometimes wish I would've set up a gray water system with our house....I cringe whenever I empty a bathtub of water down the drain...the fact that we dig water lines 6 feet deep to avoid a frost line enters into the equation...enjoy the peas, Bev...

givio 08-11-2016 05:04 PM

SBG, that's what happened with my peas. They turned brown, shriveled up, and gave up the ghost. I planted the seeds at the end of May.
Bev, Yes, they sprouted quickly, I was surprised, like in 3 days! Amazed me.
I watered every day, but they couldn't take the heat we had this summer.

oksewglad 08-11-2016 07:56 PM

Excited as I sewed tonight...making luggage tags for the two Dutch Grands as they are traveling to see their Oma in a few weeks...very quick and easy...

QuiltingNinaSue 08-12-2016 04:09 AM

Good to hear from everyone enjoying their summers. I think I am back on 'track' now, feeling better with the "I can" attitude now. Quilting Room is back in operation to do the rest of the FW blocks. Promised dh to can green beans tomorrow. Yesterday worked up the white peaches he had brought in into a peach crisp. Then he had to tell me how bac it was, and how I used too much corn starch....when he had not tasted it. I did taste it, and it was white because he had brought in white peaches. LOL! Too funny. Last night he ate some and had to tell me how good it was. Men!

SBG, loved your little cartoon with the cat on the ironing board. That is where my cat sat yesterday. And spit up there so I had to wash the cover...just water, thank goodness. Something did not agree with her tummy. Seems better today.

OK, it was good hearing from ou with all the work you are doing for your 'guests' on the farm. No matter how big or litte, there is always something to do on the farm. Never ever boring. Getting the "tech farming" pictures on face book and amazed how machinery has changed from my childhood and Dh's too.

Have a good day everyone. Smile. At least once in the day.

sewbizgirl 08-12-2016 05:52 AM

Good morning everyone!

OK, you seem to have an endless supply of grandchildren! What a blessing. How did you end up with Dutch grands?
Are all the other kids/grandkids still there with you? Love your stories.

QNS, glad you are feeling better and feel like sewing. It's got to be overwhelming to have all the produce coming in and have to do something with it so it doesn't go to waste. I miss my days of the big veggie garden, tho.

My little doe is back eating behind the house this morning. We have seen her just about every day this past week. The other day there were a pair of them in the front of the house too. Yeah, we can forget about a garden, unless we are willing to build an 8 foot electrified fence around it! I do love watching the deer in the woods, tho.

Got two receiving blankets put together for donation last night, and finished putting hubby's wall hanging top together. His birthday is tomorrow so I will be quilting the wall hanging and finishing it up today. He is always around tho, so it's hard to be sneaky about it. After that I will tackle the wedding gown alteration.

Hope you all have a great day and weekend!

oksewglad 08-12-2016 06:53 AM

We have 11 Grands...5 a half mile and a hill away, 2 in WI, 3 in NC and 1 in MA....our SIL is from Holland; their 2 kids are very blond and light skinned...12 yo slathers on the sun screen and still gets sun burned, and she's an outdoor girl...house is quiet today...NC family sleeping in their own beds...

There are days when I wish I had more fruit trees and then glad I don't have all that canning, I'd have to do...kudos to you QNS....

At some point that bride will be on your doorstep SBG:D...I know that feeling of not really wanting to do something so I find other more fun things to do....

sewbizgirl 08-12-2016 08:20 AM

The intimidating part about the wedding gown is that I have to 'estimate' the length of the top layer of skirt! She had 4 layers and by the time I worked from the inside layer, out to the third layer, she got swoony and had to lie down. The outer two layers are the same length so I'm praying I can match the 4th layer to where I pinned up the 3rd layer. It's tricky getting their gowns just that perfect 1/2" off the floor so they don't step on it, without getting it too short. Too long won't work either. It takes so long to get all the layers pinned perfectly and the bride is uncomfortable, shifts around a lot, and about half of them get the swoons! It's really for the birds....

oksewglad 08-12-2016 11:16 AM

Yes there is a reason I don't do alterations....

janRN 08-12-2016 01:38 PM

Love catching up on all the news, yinz are all so busy. It is sooooo hot here; they keep predicting rain but haven't had any. Yards are brown, plants withered. And preseason football starts tonight--and they expect a sell out crowd for the Steelers game. Hope they have lots of EMTs on hand for all the fans that pass out.

Finally used up the last of my 50 Fabulous PP Stars (from a year ago); made a long (95") table runner for DIL. The worst part is the binding. I didn't have enough fabric so I'm using single fold and could only cut it 1 3/4" wide so I hope I can catch it all when I stitch it down. I'm NOT doing this one by hand.

Stay cool, ladies, and keep the tales coming--I so enjoy hearing about your lives.

It's been hot and super humid here... sometimes 100% humidity. But we have had a ton of rain, too. Hope some of it blows your way, Jan.

Managed to finish hubby's wall hanging in the nick of time. He will have this and a shirt I made, and a cheesecake for his birthday goodies tomorrow. He'll be happy.
