It's so nice seeing the first FWS quilts. That was my first scrappy quilt, didn't think I'd like scrappy. Seems that's all I do now. Here's mine:

QuiltingNinaSue 08-20-2016 04:52 AM

Thanks JanRN and JeanieG for showing your FW to us again. They are so lovely and its good to see pictures of them again. Wonder who else might have a picture of it? Excellent job of doing the photography, too. Mine never come out that well.

May it be a good day for everyone. My QR is in a mess, again. Hope to get more done in there today. It would be nice to be able to sit down and sew in an organized neat room. :o Maybe someday. I move too slow anymore and get impatient with myself. I think I hate housework and cleaning up messy messes of things tossed here and there and ignored. Gotta have a talk with the lady of the house about finding better places to put things....I can find it,if no one moves the pile. Most times.

sewbizgirl 08-20-2016 06:01 AM

Good morning everyone.

Jan, that FW is utterly gorgeous....and so is the quilting! Did you quilt it yourself?

Quilt meeting this morning. Just wanted to pop in and say hello while I have my coffee.

grannyQ 08-20-2016 06:07 AM

I haven't been able to do much lately, we had to take DH to nursing home yesterday and with the help of hospice he won't suffer pain for very long. Thank's for all your prayers. Very pretty FW quilts. I have a picture of mine but have been very busy with DH.

givio 08-20-2016 06:27 AM

grannyQ, * hugs *

QuiltingNinaSue 08-20-2016 06:38 AM

Hugs and prayers for you GrannyQ.

QuiltingNinaSue 08-20-2016 09:58 AM

Last call for those who would like some scraps...yards to ? inch stuff. Remind me of your favorite colors, if it matters or not, how small you want, and SBG, I have novelty scraps from I SPY quilts that I have done and saved the corners back, plus some prints. Pink for baby quilts (2 yards of pink cuddle cloth for baby girls) and a couple of backings for baby size 42 x 45 inches. I will honor the one request I have gotten from a non-FW quilter if she sends me her mailing address. You may use a PM or email me. I am seriously depleting my stash and organizing the QR. Dh approves of my re-organizing the totes and fabrics within a smaller section of the room.:o

sewbizgirl 08-20-2016 10:10 AM

GrannyQ, I am so sorry to hear about your husband. Prayers and hugs for you!

QNS I pm'd you about the scraps.

Honchey 08-20-2016 11:17 AM

Oh the memories of the first FWS.. I don't remember if I ever told you all about how I got to be the leader of the group :)

During the year of 2010 I was browsing online and came across the QB website and signed up..I love to make blocks, just like Jan, then came upon blocks of the month & week..A member was going to start the FWS and I joined...She, for some reason, probably illness, decided not to continue..When I saw that there were no figures/numbers for the rotary cutting I decided to do them for each block. There were some blocks that could not be figured out mathmatically by me...I officially took over the third week and have been doing it until two weeks ago.. It's been a long and rewarding journey...H.

You are correct SBG - I did start with layer cakes on these two quilts, then added to them as needed. I was not confident in picking out fabrics that matched well at the time. I had just gotten back to quilting after I retired. This gave me a head start.

Here is a FWS Pony Club Quilt (I have to put together and finish the 2nd half (some day)!

Oh, I love that one too! You've got such nice horsey fabrics all throughout it. Great horsey border, too. That's a fabulous quilt.

JuneBillie 08-20-2016 12:34 PM

Hello Everyone! So many pretty quilts. Sounds like you girls are enjoying your days. That is good to hear.

Givio did you receive your scraps?

It's a bit cooler here today with rain.

Just wanted to pop in and say hello.

oksewglad 08-20-2016 01:44 PM

Hugs, GrannyQ...and prayers as well...

GrannyQ I've been thinking about you--prayers and positive thoughts headed your way. JuneBillie, glad to hear from you and hope you're taking it easy.

SBG, I quilted that as QAYG on my Viking (didn't have Sweet16 at that time). I still like to QAYG. Thanks for the compliments.

Here's my FWS Pony quilt

oksewglad 08-20-2016 02:01 PM

Oh yes...the little blocks in the corners made yours sew special, Jan...your scrappy sense is so good....

sewbizgirl 08-20-2016 04:39 PM

I love that quilt, Jan. So much beautiful stuff to look at! Thanks for putting up the photo.

QuiltingNinaSue 08-20-2016 04:43 PM

I have heard of the disappearing nine patch, but this one is new to me: https://mypatchwork.wordpress.com/20...-free-pattern/

12 different blocks from the original cut. Wow. Watched Jenny Doan do the 'stripped blocks' on video and that was something else, too! Love the 'quick' rotary cut quilts.

That is really neat... will have to try that with some of the Boom blocks I'm making.

givio 08-21-2016 09:31 AM

QNS, great blog, thanks for sharing that link! I like her tutorials, so simple, quick and easy. You don't have to waste time watching something dragged out for 30 minutes-- but just get the idea right away, and then go with it. I like the 48 HST one. I'm going to try that!
JuneBillie, Yes, I did receive the scraps you sent, thank you so much! :-) I'm going to use some today, when I get off the computer.
I'm thinking about going with Jeanie's idea about taking some time off of FWS and work on some UFOs. And also thinking about agreeing with SBG's idea about 80-something FWS blocks is enough. lol

QuiltingNinaSue 08-21-2016 10:26 AM

Love the messages from each of you and the PMs that I have gotten to read, too! It is really helping to deplete the stash of want I probably will never use. Hope you are alll up to the challenge! LOL! Good to know its been used instead of sitting around in my quilt room. And as slow as I am moving its good to have a week to do all the packing!

Anne, yours is growing like Topsy! Filled one big box and started on another for your charities. I feel like its Christmas and I am wrapping up lots of stockings to the brim. Alaways loved 'being' Mrs. Clause and now I have the figure to match up very well Or should I say 'stack up' well ?

May your week be filled with good surprises and sunlight joys every day!

They are everywhere! Never had the bright red ones before.

Honchey 08-21-2016 05:00 PM

I would love the little red ones for my fairy garden in NC..They are so cute..

oksewglad 08-21-2016 05:14 PM

Yup...those mushrooms are pretty....

Have the current UFO under needle...just straight stitching on the diagonal...should be a warm one with flannel backing...then going to sandwich another UFO...doesn't do any good unfinished...have a good night...

dublb 08-21-2016 05:14 PM

We went to Houston for the weekend. Well, Kingwood actually. A northeastern suburb of Houston. It is where DD lives. We did have a real nice visit. I for got my laptop though. :( I wasn't able to find the QB on my IPhone either. Sigh, I missed ya'll. I sure did loved seeing the FWS & PC quilts that ya'll reposted. I sure do wnat to get back to my PC.

I sure want to post HUGGS & Prayers for you GrannyQ. This has been a long haul for you my DF.

givio 08-22-2016 06:23 AM

SBG! I've never seen those little red mushrooms, except in pictures. How fun to see them in person! Where is the gnome? Too shy to be in the shot? :-) The last ones pictured, under the leaves, look like edible ones-- but I'm always afraid to eat a mushroom that I didn't buy from the store.
OK, just flannel on the back, or did you use a batting too? Thanks for your encouragement: "doesn't do any good unfinished." I suppose tops would still be a joy to someone to receive, but anyway, it did seem like an encouraging remark to me. :-)

I know! I expected to hear the smurf song any minute... Very surprised to see these bright red shrooms in their own little forrest. One had a little nibble out of it, like a deer tried to eat it but after one bite, left it alone!

Good morning everyone... Youngest son surprised us with a visit home last night! He moved to Memphis two weeks ago but took today off so he could come home and take care of some business and get more of his stuff to take up there. Great surprise! Been missing him.

Hope everyone enjoys this day in their own way.

Cute little mushrooms! I do not pick up mushrooms anywhere but the grocery store.. . just to be safe.

Progress in QR. Labeled and displayed totes will help find that elusive fabric project.Left side of the empty shelves are Dh's to use.

My first FW quilt the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt we called FWSQ:half of it hangs down on the living room wall. Top is the scene of the farm, and the foot end has a fence. Wil try in week or so, to scan the official professional photo view of the whole quilt to show all 141 blocks here.

oksewglad 08-22-2016 03:17 PM

Look at that empty space......

givio, I put a lightweight batting with the flannel...we have cold winters in Iowa...plus our extra bedrooms are in the walkout basement and tends to be colder down there...need to keep the Grands warm when they come to visit....feel like a long day at work...going g to put my feet up and veg for a while....

sewbizgirl 08-22-2016 03:25 PM

Nina Sue, what a pretty quilt! Gorgeous colors and patterns. Your farm and fence are great touches.

givio 08-23-2016 05:32 AM

QNS, I love all the colors in your FWS quilt. Your binding looks so perfect and professional. Are you going to set your new blocks the same way? I like how you used the cornerstone fabric for the outside triangles, and the center stands out on that light color. Very nice.

QuiltingNinaSue 08-23-2016 08:32 AM

Thank you all for your kind words. The PC quilt is at the same place where I took this one. They are back logged, so it will be late September before it is done at the LA quilter. Last time was $450.00 and this time will probably be more. She did each block individually and it looks great, just cannot get it to show up in a picture.

Today we finally tackled the big deep freezer and cleaned it out put back in reverse, so the bottom items are now at the top, corn is all over to one side (had more than I thought!) and freezer burned meat is on top to uise first.

Refresh my mind when you can on your favorite colors, 'cause I am now sorting the fat quarters, etc., pieces down to two and half inches...as soon as you can. That will customize the box more for you...believe me, I do have all the colors on the color wheel! The totes on the shelves now are new projects acquired in the last year from www.Smartquilters.com and local area QS...like the Quilted Windmill in Pella, Iowa. Inspiration to finish current projects so I can start on them. What you cannot see is the West guest room wall loaded up from South to North with totes of more projects, plus the ones in the QR closet, so no need for a F A R T trip for twenty years! Sure enough! I will never miss what I am shipping out to you all. If you want to limited my 'give away' that is all right, but all of it is going out the door....to one new home or another! Its all cotton quilting fabric.. Honchey has limited what she wants, which means I am sorting those fabrics and dividing it by half...maybe to JeanieG. Blends, prints, and all colors are going and gone. Some are 5-7 yards done to less than a yard. Adn two and half inch strips.

On my bucket list is the Savannah for BIL and Dh; Floral Irish Chain quilt, two log cabin quilts, two wall hangings that might turn out to be quilts, four stack and whack quilts, ..or more...tone on tone log cabin, rooster quilts, and so on down the list.to the smart quilters kits for Lone Star, etc., about five different quilts there. And that is not touching the two book cases of quilt books plus, other quilt patterns. Like the four big notebooks of free quilt patterns...yep, I have collected too much to finish in twenty years! Its been fun sewing iwth FW quilts on QB with you all. Seems like a good way to thank you' all for putting up with me on the trail.

Have a good day and a good week everyone.

sewbizgirl 08-23-2016 08:45 AM

You are so sweet and generous, QNS. I would love a box, but not a huge box, please. If you send too much, I can always share with my charity quilting group, "Love, Piece and Joy Quilters". We have a stash room at the leader's house that we can "shop" from at any time. It will all go to good use for others.

Any colors are fine. Personally I can use more of the blenders, solids and small prints to go with the larger prints I seem to have collected. Don't fret over it too much or make it a chore.

Not long ago I stuffed a big bag full of fabrics I had too long and didn't really like anymore, and passed it on to a newer lady in our Love Piece Joy group who didn't have much of a stash yet. She was so delighted and it felt great to free up some space for other fabric. So I know you are enjoying the big 'purge' you are doing! It's a good feeling.

sewbizgirl 08-23-2016 04:16 PM

Don't listen to those lovely bolts on the shelf! :D :D :D

I just posted a link in my sig line to my Boom swap photo album. I have made all 19 blocks to trade, with other people's fabric, plus one of my own. I'm done! It will be over a month before we mail them and get ours back tho. It's been a lot of fun to make one and be done, with each fabric. Great for trying out block patterns. They are all 12.5" blocks.

Good morning, Nina Sue! Thanks for that positive start to my day. :o

oksewglad 08-24-2016 06:03 AM

Last night we were deluged with rain...not sure how much rain, but county seat received 7 1/2", town south of us received over 10... we are in a flash flood emergency...water is over the road just north of DS as well as a half mile to the west of us..we're going for a little drive to see how it is. First day of school cancelled due to weather..we're not in danger, but have fields with water backed up in. My quilt day with QBuddy has been postponed...guess I will find something to do at home...

QuiltingNinaSue 08-24-2016 01:23 PM

Stay 'safe' Ok, glad to hear you are fine and family is fine. Crops are always a gamble because of Mother Nature and her tricks she pulls off. I have see it all my life, happen time and time again.

We counted our blessings, and hoped for better another year. Although it really hit home a few times, like when parents had to pick up their children in a row boat or Hummers in Corpus Christi, Texas. And we teachers had to figure out a way home through the flooded streets. . . or leave the cars in deep water for wreckers to rescue them. Ocean side become a little too close when that happened. Or our last Christmas there on Padre Island when they closed the J.F.K. Harbour bridge and we had no power on Christmas Day...no heat and 12 inches of snow on the ground. It had not snowed for one hundred years, until then. When someone offers to rent or lease you a place to live and hands you an 38 page lease to sign...D O N ' T. You cannot win even they broke the agreement by not solving the heat problem 'cause they did not have heat either.

dublb 08-24-2016 02:43 PM

First my class in Midland didn't make. It was supposed to take place on Sat.
The manger of the Midland LQS & I discussed a change. We are talking about doing technique &/or theme classes. We will get together & discuss it in detail on Sept 3rd. My mind is already percolating w/ideas. http://www.quiltinghaven.com/Smileys/default/smiley.gif

We are gonna go back to Midland this weekend anyway. We need to sign some other papers for the house. We will come back & check on the cat on Sun then we will go back on the 31st for dove season. http://www.quiltinghaven.com/Smileys/default/smiley.gif It looks like I am gonna do some more work on my GFG's. http://www.quiltinghaven.com/Smileys/default/smiley.gif

sewbizgirl 08-24-2016 03:57 PM

OK, be careful and stay safe! There's always lots of fun fabric to play with at home.

Bev, it sounds like you will still be traveling back and forth for a bit. Are you teaching classes at the Midland quilt shop?

We have been noticing that we haven't seen much of our neighbor, a man with a small horse ranch. Today we found out he died on June 1st! We had no idea! The neighbor on the other side of him didn't know either. The place was getting run down, the pastures going to weeds, and there were less and less animals all the time. I guess someone has been selling them off. They had so many dogs! Wonder where those poor things ended up. The barn area is still overrun with cats. I guess they can feed themselves on mice and moles. What a shock and sobering reminder of how fleeting life is. This man was only 62.

givio 08-24-2016 05:40 PM

Oh, my! First droughts, now floods...
QNS, I always enjoy your positive comments. Wow, a 38 page lease! There's a guy that doesn't have much trust in humans....
SBG, weren't you just telling us a man at your church died unexpectedly? Wasn't that you? And now your neighbor too. A lot of people don't know their neighbors so well in this day and age, not like they used to when I was young, anyway. I wouldn't know if my neighbors died... not like I would have known if Mrs. Geovanes had died (our neighbor when I was 10-years-old).
