givio and all thanks for your kind words...All the time I made those blocks, I never thought of the sister's choice block...one I have done before! These are made from 2" squares and strips so takes a bit longer than a 2 1/2" block, but that 1/2" does make a difference in how it looks! Bonnie says to uses rectangles for the side trapezoids and squares in a corner, but I'm tired of waste triangles so cut template for that piece and used waste triangles to square off the rectangle. Used less fabric for the template pieces, too so I could get by with a shorter piece of scrap. Does this make sense? Gotta go and get to work....

Blue Bell 03-20-2018 07:49 AM

OK, you are so clever to use waste triangles to square off the rectangle. Love your SISTER"S CHOICE quilt. Now that you have a LA, you will be able to get your quilts done in record time.

QuiltingNinaSue 03-25-2018 03:04 PM

Love the job you have done on your quilts, OK. ..and learning the LA so well.

Givio, lovey job on the rugs.

You know you are getting old when DD calls to wish us a Happy Anniversary of 53 years yesterday. DH cousin and wife were down and we had a great day playing cards and eating lunch together. Visiting the doctor helped so my world does not spin so fast when I lay down or lend over...and breathing better. March always is a sinus month; some worst than others.

Organizing quilt room again after three trips to the Sampler that is going out of business. Last trip, everything was 75% off. Beautiful fabric, hard to resist... I have enough fabric for the next 30 years now. It is hard to choose what project comes next or what UFO comes next now.

givio 03-25-2018 06:59 PM

QNS, Many more happy years to you both! Congratulations!
Wow, 75% off!!

JeanieG 03-25-2018 07:03 PM

QNS - Wow - what great savings on that fabric.

I finished my On Ringo Lake Quilt. I was going to add another border, but decided it was big enough as it is. I'll get a photo soon.

I am ready to quilt the last border on last years En Provence and decided I needed a different thread for it. I got a Purple Rainbow thread ordered from Superior Threads, and another of their cotton bobbins. I could not believe it, but I used all of my first set of bobbins sewing On Ringo Lake!

dublb 03-26-2018 05:12 AM

DM has been here to do business for her house. We meet the inspector at the house at 11:30 today. I will either take her back to Midland, after that meeting or tomarrow after I take the Sequoia to the shop to get fixed. That is the appointment we have.

sewbizgirl 03-26-2018 06:30 AM

Happy Anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. QNS!

QuiltingNinaSue 03-26-2018 08:34 AM

Thanks. I just cannot believe its been 53 years! Wow. Where did the fly time so fast????

JuneBillie 03-27-2018 02:21 PM

Happy Anniversary to you both QNS. May the Lord bless you both with many more. :)
Playing cards sounds like fun. I like getting together with others to play some game and have a snack or lunch. We use to regularly go over to my son and daughter in laws house to play scrabble and then another game, but now they are both too busy, because they are both working and on off time my son is always working on something in his work shop.

I have a great neice who is 18 and has cyctic fibrosis, and she completed a 5K the other day and got a medal. Bless her heart, she told me it didn't go well though, because it started raining, and she was sick to begin with, but had already paid her fee, and didn't want to lose that. (Oh My!) She said when she finished she couldn't feel her body. She said now she is sore all over and has to take small steps. She said, usually she can do it easily. That shocked me, but her dad is a runner so it probably is good for her if she wants too as long as she takes care of herself.

Spring Clean-up time. Thinning out my older fabrics and reorganizing What I want to keep or what will go into scrappy quilts. Have upset two closets and thinking of targeting the linen closet in my bathroom. Sun is shinning and Easter is on its way..."Here comes Peter Cottontail, .....coming down the bunny trail...." Song we sang as kids is ringing in my ears.

Everyone have a Happy Easter Day and fun with the kids in Easter egg hunts!

dublb 03-30-2018 11:07 AM

My #1DSon & his family are on their way here. I have been getting the house ready for 'em. :)

sewbizgirl 03-30-2018 12:53 PM

Happy Easter weekend to you all!

oksewglad 03-30-2018 05:52 PM

Thanks for the Easter Greetings...Little ones helped me put out some decorations today. Have dinner on Sunday and a meeting tomorrow so lots to do...Have a Blessed Weekend.

Happy Easter to all of you! :-)
My husband and I had dinner at my son's house, and we colored Easter eggs with the grandchildren. I brought two dozen boiled eggs there, left one dozen, and took the other home. Egg salad sandwiches this week, yum!

dublb 04-01-2018 08:13 PM

Happy Easter to all of ya'll also! I have had a great weekend. #1DSon brought his family for a visit. It has been such a loooong time since he has been able to pull away & come. This pre-med he is in is awful! At least there is a great payday at the end of the tunnel!

JeanieG 04-01-2018 08:22 PM

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter!

I'm plugging along with only one more side of my border to sew on and I'll have the FW 30's quilt in the flimsy stage. Yay!!! I have been concentrating on these UFO's. I also only have to quilt the last border on my last year's Bonnie Hunter Myster En Provence and it will be completed. I finished this year's On Ringo Lake, it is also at the flimsy stage. Feels so good to get these quilts moving along toward finish!!!

oksewglad 04-02-2018 06:16 AM

dublb--such a treat when family gets together!
Sounds wonderful Jeanie! Anxious to see them when finished!
Need to tidy up the house after company gone..then see where the day takes me. Could get nasty snow/rain tonight..when will winter be over...was 11 degrees Sunday morning! No Easter egg hunt here!

QuiltingNinaSue 04-02-2018 03:59 PM

Still cleaning out making more clutter and feel like 'Don't look, just throw it away' and call it gone. Ordered three pop up bags from fat quarters to drop scraps into light, medium and dark piles. Dh is grumpy and turning volumes up until neighbors can hear his programs...and my head still hurts from sinus problems... even a little dizzy yet. Project 'Clean up' for be at least another week or two. Growling at my self for creating a worse mess. Possible F A R T trip tomorrow.

oksewglad 04-02-2018 04:46 PM

Don't beat yourself up too much, QNS..I know where you're coming from though! It' neat and tidy here now, but how long will I keep it that way:rolleyes:

givio 04-02-2018 04:50 PM

JeanieG!! Great news there, for working on the UFOs. Your 1930's Farmer's Wife Sampler quilt! Almost a flimsy! My! My! My! Who else has finished theirs? I thought you guys had finished the first FW quilt, and the PC quilt, but I don't remember seeing the 30's FW finishes. And EnProvence too! Double Wow!

QuiltingNinaSue 04-03-2018 04:38 AM

It will be great JeanieG to see your pictures of those 'flimsy tops'. Mine is still on the bucket list....blocks are done on the latest one but not put together. It may take a month to straighten out my mess. Back to Chariton this morn to where is there is 75% off fabric....who could resist another look?

sewbizgirl 04-03-2018 09:11 AM

Ooooh, lucky you, QNS. I couldn't resist another look, either.

Tonight is our usual twice-monthly meeting of the charity quilters group. One of the ladies said she is bringing a bunch of fabric to sell for a friend at $1 a yard!! The lady isn't sewing any more and just needs to get rid of the fabric, so her friend is helping her by selling it to us! I hope it's something nice and something we can use. So excited to see it.

QuiltingNinaSue 04-03-2018 01:32 PM

I have or in the process of PM ing some of you who have helped me in the past. Dh thought I had bought out the store! He said the next time I had to carry it all out. Garbage bags worked great and I got the boards too.

Pictures later, we are both too tired to carry in tonight.

dublb 04-12-2018 08:25 PM

Life has been crazy busy. I am sooo sorry that I haven't stopped by here in a while. Yesterday I drove to Midland & helped DM pack up all her breakables. I will go back next week & pack up some more stuff before I bring her to Brady next Friday (the 20th) to close on this house. She will go back & the movers will move her on the 24th. Oh my!!!! DD & I will be painting from Friday till Monday at noon. We want the paint to be dry before the movers get here.

oksewglad 04-12-2018 10:46 PM

It will be so nice to have Mom closer, dublb...Enjoy the time you have with her.

How's everyone doing? Had some farm business take me away from my fun time...but tonight did get back to the quilt frame and got some frog stitchin' done...I failed to check tension after I refilled bobbins. I blithely quilted until ready to roll...oh the sinking feeling when you see all the loose threads on the bottom and you know the sound of "rip it" is in the future. I have about a square foot left to rip, but time to call it for the day.

Had a nice day today...went to town with only a light jacket...tomorrow through the weekend a different story. This lousy weather is getting old...

I keep thinking Spring is around the corner...and I saw our daffodils in Bloom. Our newest ones on the homestead:Is it still Christmas:Dh Christmas Cactus is blooming. Monday the 23rd, we get our 10 young ducks. Ready for them to appear that week. Enjoy every moment, 'cause they disappear so quick!

sewbizgirl 04-13-2018 04:40 PM

What sweet little chicks, QNS... signs of Spring. The Christmas cactus is a little late, but it's sure putting out now! Gorgeous.

Bev, so much involved in moving your Mom's house. I'm sure you will be glad to have it done and have her close by.

Quiet weekend planned here. I'll be sewing, hubby probably puttering around in the garage. But next week is my big birthday treat to myself! I'm going to the Paducah AQS show! Woo hoo! Will leave Wednesday and go to Memphis first. Staying overnight with my daughter, and then heading out early Thursday for Paducah. My back can't take a lot of driving, so I'm breaking it up into two 3 hour stretches. That will be tricky enough. Once I get there I will walk all around Paducah, which will make my back happier. So excited to see the show and vendors, Hancock's and Quilt In A Day. Not to mention all the fun places to eat! Yay for Paducah!!

Hope Springtime comes to visit you all soon!

Blue Bell 04-13-2018 05:33 PM

QNS------I believe that this is an Easter Cactus.

oksewglad 04-13-2018 06:56 PM

SBG...sounds like fun...some folks from here are taking a bus trip down...wish I could've tagged along. Let us know what impressed you the most.

sewbizgirl 04-13-2018 08:41 PM

I will be happy to! I always take a bunch of pictures to "share the show" with the folks here on the board.

dublb 04-14-2018 07:48 AM

OH Sue, I love your Christmas Cactus bloom. Mine has never bloomed. I found out last fall that I have never given it the rest it needs at night. I have always had it somewhere where there is a light on at night. I put it in the dinning room for the winter. It is darker there than anywhere else downstairs. (If I had put it upstairs, I would have forgotten it & it wouldn't have ever been watered.) I am now thinking where to put it outside for this summer.

QuiltingNinaSue 04-15-2018 11:47 AM

Our Christmas cactus sits in the south window, Dublb.

SewBizGirl, enjoy your trip for us, too. we are seven hours from it and have never gone. I loved your Civil War Quilt you finished.

Almost have the first sorting out and cleaning done in the QR. light, medium and dark scraps filled the 3 pop out laundry bags I had gotten at Wal Mart. Then a good friend came in and helped me out in getting all the small totes into two larger ones that fit into the closet. I divided up some of the fabric with her. I want to sort out the rest of the fabric, then sort it by size. My guest room and QR is much improved now. Boxes will ship end of the month or first of May. The Fat Quarter order for the 3 ten and one-half inches pop up on sale did not include the pattern for the sides that is needed in the project. duh, guess I never noticed that sharp merchandising little practice. So I will have to order from them or not. Undecided right now. Disappointed in the order.

Snow came this morning and is all gone this afternoon. I think I will get one more trip to The Sampler and enjoy the 75% again...if she is still open this week.

oksewglad 04-15-2018 12:13 PM

We have dealt with rain, hail, sleet, ice, and snow....snowing.big flakes right now. We are all so sick and tired of this. Once it does warm up it will be mud.

I set my CCactus outside for a couple of weeks last fall and had a few blooms before Christmas. Now looking at it and buds are forming again...go figure.

sewbizgirl 04-15-2018 03:58 PM

We had 40 degrees today. No snow for us but we had a bad thunderstorm and heavy rain that lasted all day yesterday! I hope it warms up this week, as they say it's supposed to.

I remember over a month ago saying I thought our 80 degrees would just stick around and lead us into a very hot summer. Wrong! I think April's been colder than March.

I am so excited about Paducah I can hardly sleep! I will share pics from the quilt show when I get back... but maybe not show what I buy. That may prove to be embarrassing! Actually, I'm going to be looking at the quilting machines... long arms and sit down long arms. Any tips? How does one buy a machine at a show when there is no one in your local area to service it? I have a lot of questions.

Thanks for your comments on my CW quilt, QNS. I'm in love with that quilt. I seem to be in a real "keepy" mood lately. I was putting together my most recent Boom quilt, which was supposed to be for donation, and the thing turned out so beautiful I can't bear to part with it! Also have been sandwiching an extremely scrappy top that I put together from strips my sewing mentor made from her scraps. She's nearly 90 and just retired from our charity group, so I'm looking at her top and thinking I must keep it too. It reminds me so much of her! And she won't be doing these anymore.

Have a great week, coming up!

oksewglad 04-15-2018 05:54 PM

Bonnie, I think any reputable company will assist you no matter how close the dealer is. I have a BabyLock...the LQS sells them and know help is a phone call away if shop owner can't help. Have you been researching companies...I know Gammil, APQS, HP, Juki to name a few....this site popped up on my search...maybe it will prove helpful. Good luck.

I finished machine binding the BH I quilted last week...#6 off the frame. Next one on the frame will be the crazy ponies I made using QNS pony scraps. I FMQ'd on the sewing machine, and now going to try to finish off the last three borders on the LA. GD#1 will be happy as this is for her.

sewbizgirl 04-15-2018 08:10 PM

Thanks OK... I want to see Crazy Ponies and the BH quilt you finished! Please post pictures.

JuneBillie 04-15-2018 10:57 PM

Glad to hear of all of the activities.
QNS it sounds like you are making progress in your sewing room.
I wish you girls were around here to help me in my house.
I had been trying to get a bit of sewing done, and I don't know if it is my chair the wrong height or what, but my back has been all bound up with spasms that make me jerk. I am going to have to get it checked out to find out what's going on.

We had 80 temps the other day, and tonight chances of mixed snow and rain.

I had some daffadils come up, and I didn't even plant them. What a surprise.

dublb 04-16-2018 05:31 AM

DH & I finally got the garden planted yesterday. Well except for the pole beans. We have to make the tri-pods made for those still. It has been waiting to be planted for ever so long. We were gonna plant on Good Friday but #1DSon brought his family for Easter.
Ever since then I have been busy trying to get things done for DM's move. I even spent 2 days last week in Midland packing up a bunch of her breakables. I will drive to Midland on Wed & she closes on her house that day. Then we will come here on Thurs so she can close on this house on Friday. She will then go back & the movers will pack her up on Tues & bring her on Wed (the 25th.) I also only have time to paint between Friday & Monday.

givio 04-16-2018 05:39 PM

It's been a strange Spring in a lot parts of the country! We had an ice storm this past weekend. All the tree branches were coated with ice, making them go 'click click' against each other in the wind. A bit worried that that the ice will have affected the cherry and apple crops this year...

SBG, if you keep the strip quilt and it reminds you of your friend, it will be a treasure to you. There's nothing wrong with having your own quilts!

OK, 6 and counting! It seems like just yesterday you were doing the first one!

JuneBillie, daffodils you didn't plant! How did that happen! Lucky you. :-)

QNS, you are always busy doing this and that! Your trips, your sewing, your cleaning, your flowers and garden-- I'd like to be half that productive!

So much news lately...

sewbizgirl 04-16-2018 06:07 PM

One winter when I was a child in Massachusetts, we had an ice storm like that. It was Christmas time and Dad had already put up Christmas lights in the trees in our front yard. The ice encapsulated the branches, lights and all. When we plugged in the lights, it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen! Colored lights were glowing from within the ice. Never saw anything like that happen again.

Thanks Giv, for the encouragement to keep the scrappy quilt. I am going to treasure it!

I just finished putting the binding on my quilt made from the most recent Boom swap I took part in. Going to post it in the pictures section.
