Here's the quilt I bound for my neighbor's family....got the postcard quilt done, too.

dublb 08-29-2016 08:15 PM

Everybody ia so busy & all I did today was laundry. We are going back to Midland on Wed. We are gonna do some dove hunting but we are also gonna see about a garage sale. I do hope that we sell some things. :)

sewbizgirl 08-29-2016 08:15 PM

OK, that is such a great quilt! Really love that ribbon-y block in the lower right corner. Is this the one your neighbor left all done except for the binding?

Would love it if you'd show us the postcard quilt too.

oksewglad 08-29-2016 08:26 PM

Thanks, SBG...yes it is my neighbor's...the postcard is ready to come out of the dryer soon. I used crayola marker...ultra washable kind...to mark the quilting lines...and they washed out...yeah...

Hot outta the dryer...denim and khaki for post cards...fabric left overs for the backing...Colors on back are actually more golden and deep green...light poly backing makes this a cosy quilt.

JeanieG 08-29-2016 09:12 PM

Great quilts OK!! Love your neighbor's quilt! Wow, all that applique! I admire, but don't do!

Bev - good luck at your garage sales this weekend!

QuiltingNinaSue 08-30-2016 04:44 AM

Jan, did the mailman deliver on Saturday or do we go another round to get the package delivered???? Have to find the tracking number on this package if it did not, I will lodge a complaint.

Lovely work, OK. Always enjoy seeing what you have done.

JeanG, great work on your quilts, too. Wish I had some finished to show.

Progress made on QR...hope I can finish the re-organizing this week. Seeing the cancer doctor again on Thursday; he may wnat to re-do his nose job on left side of my nose and we will go from there, and will see what else.

Wishing Quilter 65 Happy Birthday today.

sewbizgirl 08-30-2016 08:40 AM

Thanks for sharing the quilt photos with us, OK. I couldn't imagine what a postcard quilt would look like! You are so sweet to finish those for your neighbors.

Good luck at the cancer doctor's, QNS. Hope all is well.

I have a big house cleaning to do today. Just got back home from Memphis and all the Memphis kids will be coming here tomorrow, to sleep and then go with us to Louisiana Thursday for SIL's funeral on Friday. The family is all working their way home to Louisiana this week.

oksewglad 08-30-2016 03:14 PM

Thanks all..FYI...the postcard is one I made...I dropped it off at the local Binky Patrol collection site this morning...nothing like having company to get the house cleaned...once in a while when I'm on a cleaning binge...kids ask "who's coming?":p:D

janRN 08-30-2016 05:50 PM

Lots going on, just want to thank all of yinz for the suggestions on my border. Still contemplating (which means it's still rolled up and sitting on the shelf). Jeanie, it measures about 74 x 86; if I had to do it over I'd have made 2 quilts or some table runners. I don't need another large quilt.

So true, OK! I hate cleaning the house. I'm a big Proquiltinator!

I did get mixed up about the postcard quilt. So nice of you to donate it.

Jan, hope we didn't make you more confused about that border. We all had different opinions! If the quilt is too big, maybe omit the border? I really like how you set your blocks straight rather than on point. I was glad to see how that looked. May do that myself.

oksewglad 08-31-2016 10:39 AM

I think I have a brown thumb most days...so nice to see that others don't...Thanks for sharing...

JuneBillie 08-31-2016 01:59 PM

QNS that is a beautiful African Violet. They are so pretty when they bloom out like that.

JuneBillie 08-31-2016 02:01 PM

JeanieG your quilts are so pretty. I have a couple to finish that I started for lap size on the train ride.

JeanieG 08-31-2016 02:16 PM

JuneBillie - I just found the Train Ride #1 Tabletopper! It just needs a backing. I have completed 3 items so far this month, that needed so little to be done (at least to the flimsy stage). I revised my Excel UFO listing to bring it up to date. I have one item on the UFO list I don't even know what it is!!!!! Crazy! I went through and labeled all of my UFO's, which stupidly I had not done, and could not remember the names of. I have about 3 items that are in block stage (BOM type things). So if I can come up with sashings, I can put them together. My FWS 30's quilt is on the display wall (at least the part that will fit), I know I want white sashings, but having a heck of a time with the cornerstones. I am wondering if I just cut squares from all the different fabrics I used if that would work??? Decisions, decisions!

givio 08-31-2016 05:14 PM

Ok, * sigh* you make me tired with all the things you get done! Good job!
QNS, What a beauty! Did you use an African violet fertilizer? Any tips? Mine doesn't get so many blooms, waiting for that though. It didn't die yet, that's the main thing. lol

QuiltingNinaSue 08-31-2016 05:47 PM

I picked up some special soil package when I bought the two violets from Wal Mart. It was not 'violet soil' 'cause they did not have any. It said it kept the plant from being over watered and not underwater, so I choose it. I water them every third or fourth day, being careful not to over water them. And they are in a North window, small ones, so not much direct light. I am surprised how well them seem to be doing, (knock on wood). I fill two plastic measuring cups with water and let it sit a day or two before I pour it into their pot...carefully holding the leaves up, so they do not get wet. I think that all helps... we will see what happens down the road a ways. Meanwhile, I am enjoying them.

You all have a goodweek now. Good night.

We are in Midland. We got here by 3:00PM.http://www.quiltinghaven.com/Smileys/default/smiley.gif My hair appointment was at 4:30. so we did good. Especially after being delayed an hour by having to fix the fence before we left.http://www.quiltinghaven.com/Smileys/default/sad.gif We were real close to being ready when DH discovered the fence was all tangled up. Once we got it all taken care of we were so confused that we left several things.

grannyQ 09-01-2016 03:55 PM

Just a note to let you know that DH passed away early this morning. Finally free from all pain.

oksewglad 09-01-2016 04:01 PM

May peace be to you and yours, M.

QuiltingNinaSue 09-01-2016 04:30 PM

GrannyQ hugs and prayers are coming your way. May God grant you extra strength and power to deal with everything in the next year...remember please, one day at a time or one hour at a time. Celebrate his life and all the good moments of your life together.

Skin cancer Dr. took four samples today; will hear back in seven to ten days what the verdict is and the next steps they will take...one day at a time, we will hear the news when they know the score.

givio 09-01-2016 05:32 PM

{{{grannyQ}}} Our sympathy...

janRN 09-01-2016 06:00 PM

Love, prayers and positive thoughts to you and your family, M

JeanieG 09-01-2016 06:10 PM

GrannyQ - You are going to have so much to do the next few days/weeks, please know that my thoughts and prayers will be with you! Hugs!

sewbizgirl 09-01-2016 08:24 PM

GrannyQ, so sorry for your loss.... It's a blessing your husband is out of pain. So hard to watch a loved one suffer! Take care of yourself and remember the happy times. God bless you.

dublb 09-03-2016 06:55 AM

HUGGS & Prayers my DF GrannyQ! My heart is broken for you!

JuneBillie 09-03-2016 03:12 PM

GrannyQ you are in my prayers. God has his arms of love around you at this time.

QNS you are in my prayers for good test results.

Honchey 09-03-2016 05:08 PM

GrannyQ, So sorry for your loss. ((( ))) Hugs for you.

Nina, Hoping for the best for you..:)

Ladies, I just came back home after spending a week with my Dsis in De... Had a very relaxing time..caught up on alot of sleep. Now to get ready for our trip to NC a week from Monday...Have to be home for the opening day of Football for the NY Giants... I helped my sister with a baby quilt that needs to be finished..
I now have to catch up on a ton of emails.. Later, H.

oksewglad 09-03-2016 05:08 PM

Over the past few days I deconstructed about 2 dozen denim jeans...even fixed 2 pair for MrOK....I found another pair to fix so will get them done, too. FarmerSon saw my denim piles and wanted to know if I could fix some jeans for him....I'll have DIL bring them done...I got all sizes of denim cut! This morning I started cutting strips from the legs any where from 2 to 8" in width...cut some 11" squares when I could...in my digging found some denim all ready to make mudroom rugs...got 2 made yesterday. I was tired of cutting so started sewing strips...mostly with the 8" widths...almost done with a 48x60 top done...size was determined by the heavy flannel backing piece I have...I won't use a batting in this one as the flannel, a royal blue and black Buffalo plaid will be sufficient..another one for donation. I hope to get one a month sent off...with all the denim cut up it won't take long to piece the tops..okay back to getting this top done.

sewbizgirl 09-03-2016 05:39 PM

We just got back from sister-in-law's funeral. It was held in my dh's hometown and pretty much all the siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins came. It was such an emotional time, re-bonding with the family and also visiting the parents and grandparents already in the cemetary. We looked at old family photos and shared memories... my heart is so full.

This was a sad time but also a blessing of healing of relationships, and a reminder of how short and how fragile life is. Treat your loved ones well and never miss an opportunity to tell them you love them!

QuiltingNinaSue 09-04-2016 02:38 PM

Sounds like you'all are staying busy and enjoying each day as a 'gift' with family and friends.

Good neighbor came by and picked up several more boxes. I have packed all except JeanieG's box which proved to be too heavy for me to lift, so I am splitting hers into two boxes before I ship them. Sh says we are not leaving the house this next week, so it may be the week after that I ship...we will see. I will notify all when I do ship. I have rechecked and verified addresses and have my fingers crossed that all is right this time.

The Peach pudding cake was a real hit with all yesterday; it came out of the oven as the good neighbor came in the door. Dh rated it on a scale of one to ten, as a fifteen. I did post it here and in the recipe section as well. I think we will have Pork Ribs and Steak Fries tomorrow. It is time to eat another piece of cake....you'all take care.

sewbizgirl 09-05-2016 06:23 AM

Good morning and I hope everyone enjoys their Labor Day today. I love long weekends. I will just unwind from all the traveling and funeral stuff. It was like a family reunion and I'm talked out. Looking forward to a couple of quiet days where I don't have to talk to anyone and can just quilt. That recharges my battery.

Quilt group meets tomorrow night so I need to push to get a couple of my 'sandwiches' quilted today and tomorrow. That's the plan for me!

oksewglad 09-05-2016 07:41 AM

SBG...I know the feeling...I call it finding my balance...

Woke up this morning dreaming of walking...walking and not getting where I wanted to be and not finding the people I was to meet up with...I think I was more tired than when I went to bed...it's trying to rain here..got a couple outside chores done..now I need to clean up my kitchen...I would rather be sewing....have a good one

Honchey 09-05-2016 07:09 PM

Hi Everyone, Another beautiful day here in NJ.. Hermine wasn't the threat we were expecting..He went out to sea along NJ..
Nina, Your plates will be in the mail tomorrow and Givio your scraps will also be mailed tomorrow...Finally!

Jeanie, did you receive the plate I sent you ? It should have arrived while you were away..

I don't know what happened, I didn't do anything out of the ordinary but I can't stand up straight.. I have been soaking in a hot tub then stretching..it hurts right in the small of my back and downwards.. I'm supposed to work on Wednesday.. I hope it goes away by then.

I just found another baggie of 2.5" pieces..I swear they are multiplying! I do love that size tho....
Anyway, it's late and I've been busy even tho I'm humped over...Hpefully it will start to go away overnite.
I"m off to beddy bye, g'nite all. H.

sewbizgirl 09-05-2016 08:59 PM

Honchey, if you can take Ibuprophen, do. It's a great anti-inflamatory. Your immobility is probably due to inflamation. It doesn't take much inflamation to really cripple you when it's in your spine. Hope you feel better soon.

NinaSue, I have more plates for you too, I'm just waiting to mail them with your payment for postage (when you tell me what that is...). Thanks for sharing your scraps with us. I hope you feel much freer for having done a big clean-out. :o

JeanieG 09-05-2016 09:49 PM

Yes Anne, I did receive the license plate. Thanks so much for sending! Glad Hermine was not what they estimated! I hope your back feels better soon.

oksewglad 09-06-2016 05:10 AM

I'm taking ibuprofen for my knee...I usually take aspirin for my OA, but switched because of its better response...think I am going back to aspirin...ibuprofen causes me to dream crazy dreams...tired of waking up after them...we'll see how my knee is then....work today...hot and muggy..gotta dash

givio 09-06-2016 06:20 AM

Honchey, I really do appreciate your perseverance and commitment when posting a thread each week for the Farmer's Wife 1930's sampler quilt project. A whole year! It really kept me going week after week, knowing you'd have the thread there and the others would be posting their pictures on it. I'm glad to have made 85+ blocks (might make the last ones yet...), enough for a quilt top with lots of memories of our group. I left a feedback for you, even though there is not a category for hosting, per se. Thank you!
Back pain is such a trial. Saying a prayer that you feel comfortable soon!
