DH contemplating if he should continue...

QuiltingNinaSue 01-24-2016 12:31 PM

No. Several have died from shoveling the snow. He needs to call for a snow blower and have it delivered and tested out in a demo. Then send it back. Beats a heart affack. LOL.

Finished FW Iris block. Now to sew dh knit cuff on his sweats. Almost forgotten how... I think I remember.

I vote "NO" your DH should not continue. It will melt!!!

I have a question about thread. A friend of mine gave me 6 spools of Sulky embroidery thread. I used it to quilt a table runner and it worked fine. Started a second table runner and half way through the thread started shredding. I changed my needle, did fine for awhile then again started shredding. Maybe shredding is the wrong term; it looks like it's unwinding into 2 ply thin threads. What do you think is the problem? Can I use embroidery thread to quilt? I don't understand why half the spool worked then the other half isn't. Help me out please!

We got home from Phoenix today. Weather was nice and came home to 70* weather. Hope it lasts!

Wow, Anne you are getting hit really hard by that snowstorm.

Jan, don't have a clue on the thread? So glad your son made it home okay!

QNS - I have not sewn anything with knit cuffs in probably 40 years? I think you stretch them as you are sewing them on, but don't remember too much. That was such a rage back in the early 70's - was it called Stretch and sew???

Maybe it's your needle...what kind of needle did you replace?..did you retread after you changed the needle? just did a Google search and found this good reference on needles...enjoy

Did a Wally World run this afternoon....we drink lots of hot chocolate this time of year and they sell the bigger round canister...also like to buy Nido..also in a canister..it's a Nestle's dry whole milk sold in the Mexican foods section of my Wmart...now why would a dairy farmer buy dry milk? I mix it 1:1 with flour and use it to thicken soups and hot dishes without adding salt..I don't buy condensed cream of xxx soup because of salt and sugar additions.

Long story short I was out of both...

Yesterday I finished a PP'd Valentine small wall hanging..Will take a photo and share...goes to school FR this Saturday...want to get one more done...May have a stay at home day tomorrow...could have freezing rain..

Jan, use a large eye needle when using the rayon embroidery thread. and I place the spool in a cup then bring it up to and around the spool pin then continue with the rest of the machine..less drag and it allows the thread to relax a bit..

Ladies, don't fret about DH. He is fine and only does small areas..I told him not to do the front walk,,no one uses it...The driveway and back area of the house was done by the fellow who plowed the driveway.. All I want him to do just throw the salt on the walkways...

JeanieG, I sewed Kwik Sew patterns and put cuffs on T-shirts and neck facings for the kids. I had a friend get me the knit cuffs at JoAnns and she measured right for me to have two sets of each for four pair of sweat pants. You measure the ankle and subtract one inch to sew the cuff ends together, then measure and pin the cuff to the pants, stretching the cuff to fit the on the bottom of the pants.Stretch as you sew in a stretch stitch, and then I sewed the cuff down to the hem it makes, so its smooth and non catching on 'toes' as the foot goes into the pants. Hope that makes sense to you' all.

JanRN, I have no idea why one worked and one did not. Even a new needle can have a 'rough' eye that cuts the thread, so I'd change needles again. There are special needles for each task you do; I ordered metallic needles yesterday.

Stay safe, Honchey and Mr. H. In an emergency, you can call your county shed to clear the driveway, so just take care and wait. Either snow plow will come by or snow will melt. Then get a snow blower and you will never have the problem again or have to use it....:p

Sigh, I have been so busy! Friday I went & took care of my DGSons as #1DSon came & helped to load some verrrry heave stuff. (One of those heave things is my industrial machine.) We then all loaded up & went to Brady yesterday. DDIL & DGSons came too. So did #2DSon. I must say that my DGSons were wonderful. The 4 YO doesn't handle change well & is finally getting used to spending the night some where other than his own bed. http://www.quiltinghaven.com/Smileys/default/smiley.gif We had to come home today so that #2DSon can go to work tomarrow. I think I am just gonna drop. I really hate the back to back trips!

I've been playing around with that embroidery thread and I've found if I twirl it between my fingers I can separate it into 2 thin threads. I think there's something wrong with this half of the spool. The first half worked fine, no breaking, shredding, splitting then all of a sudden there's a problem. I'll use a different spool. Thanks, ladies, I can always count on yinz.

I have so many quilts to finish, might have to invest with someone into a LA that could see well enough to quilt them. Still thinking.

Still thinking about Golden Anniversary; weather here on March 24th is very uncertain...should I celebrate later or go on the original date.

Dh has offed to cut pieces for the two Stack h Whack...going to check the table I use and see if its square or not. Don't know if peace will preside or not. Might wait until one of the ladies can help me. Plenty to keep me busy for now. Decided to strip the extra bag fulls in the guest room or throw it away. Want it cleared out yesterday.

Since we were in town today, will cut and sew the two FW tomorrow.

Honchey, hope your snow has melted down a bit by now; or the snow plow has gotten there to clear the driveway.
