Hmmmm, I'm going to stop in the LQS for more scraps. I'll chat with the girls there about round robin quilts..do you think there might be a magazine that features them?

Carriem, check out this type of top with the gals in your shop..

QNS, I think your idea is good..this way every person participating will end up doing every segment of the top and will end up with a top!!!

We still need suggestions from more of us..don't want to leave anyone out....

Honchey 09-23-2014 07:59 AM

Woooo Hooooo!!! we hit 10,000 and Nina you did it!!!!

I just googled the RR quilts and it is mind boggling..I like the idea of the add a row..but that's just me...There are soo many ideas out there..

I like the RR where you send a bit of your main fabric along so that it can be used throughout the quilt...tying it together. Depending on how many are interested, 5-6 rounds would probably be plenty.

Here is a RR type quilt I made this year. There was a thread on the QB were a couple ladies posted ideas for each border every month...then we all actually just made our own quilts....then you didn't have the cost of shipping involved.http://www.quiltingboard.com/blocks-...g-t236801.html

oksewglad 09-23-2014 12:34 PM

Following with interest...just not in a "thinking" mode until end of the week...

janRN 09-23-2014 01:36 PM

Carrie, that's so beautiful. I love all the colors you used. So pretty! I also like the ideas thrown out so far but laughing at OK not doing any thinking til the end of the week LOL.

I really think I like the idea of making our own quilt but working on the same border designs. We'd need time lines and posting dates to keep us on track but wouldn't have the "pressure" of making something for someone else (I'm too insecure to do this especially with borders because mine always wave at me).

Honchey 09-23-2014 03:49 PM

I like all the ideas so far...we have to see how many we can gather to do this...

Not thinking, not thinking....borders, Jan? At least they are friendly:wave:

Found out sis isn't going to be here til Thursday..I have a clean house and I'm going to enjoy it by sewing!!!!!! Maybe get a little gift for her to take back to SE PA.

carriem 09-23-2014 05:55 PM

I am with Jan that I think I would be more comfortable making my own quilt...plus that way when life happens and someone (me!) can't get to the sewing room, we aren't holding up anyone else's quilt. Maybe we can take turns each month choosing the border? There are some on the quilters cache website and I have a couple books I can recommend.

Honchey--we have talked some about RRs at the shop where I work. I know the guild has done them a couple times and they make their own center, then at each monthly meeting they pass on the quilt as it's growing. Each group has different requirements (what size each border needs to be? border 1--4", border 2--6", etc, etc; send 1yd of fabric on; and so on). I think usually it is a month per border...but we could do 6 weeks or whatever we want.

Honchey 09-24-2014 08:04 AM

We'll wait to see who wants to participate..I think I would like to make a wall hanging for my NC Home...I don't have much on them...maybe working with mini sized pieces...Size should be left up to the individual as well...

janRN 09-24-2014 08:38 AM

I went thru my quilting books and only found one that's all about borders: Carol Doak's Creative Combinations. It's all paper piecing; I used one of the patterns for the border for my SYE (which I didn't use after all, the blocks are in The Box). I'll keep looking, think I have some more books on borders.

Anne, you and OK have me hooked on small projects. I just finished the 36 minis that QOTS has posted so far. LOL they don't take up a lot of room in The Box!

dublb 09-24-2014 11:03 AM

Yikes I quit gittin' e-mail alerts & have missed a few days discussion! I want ta do the Round Robin or what ever ya'll come up with. Count me in! I'd rather it where we work on each other's quilts so that I will actually finish it. I'd finish for ya'll while I might not finish it for me. But if ya'll want us ta all do our own I'll go along w/that also. :)

deranged_damsel 09-24-2014 11:47 AM

HI  and BYE
you ladies are just WONDERFUL! I miss you all :D

janRN 09-24-2014 01:57 PM

Hey, DD--hope all is well with you, been thinking about you.

Bev, I'm not getting any notices either. I get the daily digest in my emails but no notices. I checked my settings and they're correct. I think I read a thread somewhere that the site was being upgraded and there were some bugs to work out. I just keep checking in here.

QuiltingNinaSue 09-25-2014 07:36 AM

JanRN, you may have to delete the thread and re-install the threads...I have too every so often. Some times its because I go look, before the email reaches me...but other times it just wears out, I guess.

Honchey, if you have time, why not email everyone so they can say yea or nay to the possible project proposed?

I went to DM yesterday; quilter65 was my driver. Very good driver who found a thru-the-citiy way to our favorite quilt shop and her candy store. So much for not stopping at any quilt store yesterday....then we hit Indianola and Chariton quilt shops, too Yes, some fabric called my name and came home with me...some at $3.50 a yard. I am doing so well with the right eye, I do not have to go back for three months. And I have a referral for the Surgeon to look at my left eye cataract to see if they can help it...in Chariton on the 22nd of October. Her husband and sons are harvesting 190 bushels of corn per acre this fall. The best they have ever had.

Everyone, I hope, is having a good week...if not, may it get to be a better one.

Honchey 09-25-2014 08:04 AM

Yes, I will do that Nina..Why didn't I think of that..I just assumed that everyone that wanted to keep this thread going although they read it would comment once in awhile...I'm not complaining just a little annoyed...must be the lousy weather and all my aches & pains...

janRN 09-25-2014 08:15 AM

Anne, are you getting all kinds of wind and rain from that Nor'easter? I hate to rub it in but our weather couldn't be more perfect: lows in the 40's, highs in the 70's and wall-to-wall sunshine. No rain all last week and none predicted for the next 7 days. Just perfect fall weather.

Honchey 09-25-2014 12:43 PM

Jan,It's just lousy outside, cooler than I expected, not as much rain either.. I wanted to go out today but some family business needed to be taken care of so that messed up my whole day...I'm just cutting triangles & squares in between everything else.. I have completed blocks so far of the wildlife flannel..I'm having a problem with the rotating mat I have been using .. there are grooves with fabric stuck in it and it's hard to remove...I'm wondering what I can use to get it out.. any suggestions anyone they feel like bumps and the fabric won't cut at the bumps...

janRN 09-25-2014 01:32 PM

I use one of those nylon kitchen pot scrubbers on my cutting mat. Mine's a mess because of all the pressure & cutting from paper piecing. I read here on QB about soaking your mat in lukewarm water to re-hydrate it. I haven't tried that yet but that may be a way to get the fabric out of the grooves. I'm not familiar with the rotating mat--could you soak it?

Honchey 09-25-2014 01:47 PM

Yes, Jan, I can soak it...I will try a pot scrubber first then soak it...With all the cutting I do...the 17" one is the only one giving me trouble. The rotating mat turns like a lazy susan so you don't have to lift the fabric to cut another side of it...

dublb 09-25-2014 09:02 PM

Sigh. I posted yesterday. Or I think I did. I know that I typed it out but I see that it's not here.
Yes I want ta join the RRobin. I'd rather that it was where we all work on each other's quilts as I might git 'em done that way. If it were just for me I might not finish it but would meet a deadline for ya'll. ;) If ya'll decide ta do one that we just work on our own then that's what I'll do 'cause I want ta do this w/ya'll. :)

dublb 09-25-2014 09:11 PM

Another sigh. I have a new phone & am havin' a hard time gittin' my picts from it ta load here. It's an I-phone 5c & takes marvelous picts. It takes forever ta load 'em onta the lap top then resize 'em. I tried ta download 'em directly from my phone ta here. The Board looks totally different & I couldn't find any box w/a tree ta click on. I really couldn't find any o' the function buttons that are above the reply box. I was gonna show ya;ll the wallhangin that I made for DH. Well the top is made. :) I bought the fabric on Mon & am ready ta sandwich it. Very easy but it has a different look. I sure didn't expect him ta ask for such a big one. It is 3' X 3'. It'll hang on the wall by our bed.

janRN 09-26-2014 04:27 AM

Bev, I have a new IPhone 5s and I can't get pics to download here either. I have to send them to the laptop and go from there. I've seen other posts where people can't do it and I've seen posts where they have. What's the secret? If you figure out how to do it please post here and let me know. You're so right about the clarity of the pics--they're better than the ones from MrJanRn's camera.

dublb 09-26-2014 04:19 PM

I guess that we'll both be in the dark tagether. LOL I got my wallhangin sandwiched. I have the embroidery design I want ta use ta quilt it downloaded. It was different than the other files that I have bought & gave me a bit o' trouble. I will try a sample either th'sevenin' or tamarrow. If it works I'll start quiltin' it tamarrow. I'll still mostly quilt things myself but a few things that aren't important & I'll want ta do fast then I'll use my embroidery machine.

Honchey 09-26-2014 07:36 PM

Bev, how do you quilt with the embroidery? in sections? or individual blocks? I've never done that with mine...

dublb 09-26-2014 07:48 PM

This project is my experiment. :) I plan on placin' each o' these designs on each square. I sure hope it does work out. I'm thinkin' o' placin' the embroidery machine in the middle o' a table so as ta support the weight o' the wallhangin'. I'll let ya know how it comes out.

Honchey 09-27-2014 08:34 AM

Try rolling the sides up as far as you can...that might help...I think there would be less drag..

janRN 09-28-2014 04:30 AM

Good morning--a beautiful Sunday here. Hope all of you have the type of weather we're having: lows in the 50's, highs in the 70's and wall to wall sunshine. Doesn't get any better than this.

Another thought on our group project. I don't want to make a large quilt, have no need for anymore, so like Anne I'm planning a wallhanging size. I've been downloading a lot of the 4" finished paperpieced blocks from Block of the Day. I was thinking about making a center section out of some of those then adding borders that would be suggested by the group. I'm not a fan of baskets but these ones are cute and maybe would make a nice center section. Do you think something like this could work?

That's today's idea; I'm sure I'll think of something else I want to do tomorrow. Please enjoy your day and do something you love!

Honchey 09-28-2014 06:12 AM

Jan, Please post a photo of the blocks you want to use.. I have downloaded the mini's from QOTS and I'm wondering who else has done that??? the last newsletter from them said they said you can download all of the months so you can catch up if you missed any...

Honchey 09-28-2014 07:16 AM

OOPs!!! QOTS said that they MIght soon do that..don't know when...

QuiltingNinaSue 09-28-2014 07:47 AM

Quilting on the Square did print all six patterns again on next to the last newsletter. I have saved them all if anyone wants a mini patterns; six down and six to go with them. No, I have not done anything but work on my I SPY that has to be finished at Christmas time and one for our son.

It is nice to see some action on our PC board and to hear from our members, even if they just say "HI":wave::wave::wave:

Nice weather here; my birthday yesterday was wonderful. Best friends were down, and I got to cook and wash dishes and watch them enjoy the meals. They left early today, so I sent a 'picnic' lunch home with them. Roasted pork yesterday with green beans and corn on the cob with Carmel Cake for dessert. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and gravy, fresh sliced tomatoes last night with more cake for dessert. Breakfast was waffles, microwave eggs and pork links. Picnic lunch was more chicken legs, fried, with leftover potates, etc.,

Honchey 09-28-2014 09:52 AM

Nina, Happy Belated Birthday !!!! It's a wonder that you get any sewing done with all that you do...I have one locally grown tomato left and I'm saving it for a BLT on Monday for lunch... The weather here today is just plain Beautiful...The "kids" will be over later for Dunch....nothing fancy ..can't cook special for them...they wont eat it...they hate veggies...but now I tell them.."you can't leave the table until you eat 3 spoonfuls of veggies..corn for one & string beans for the other.. it kills them to eat the 3 spoonfuls:D.
Have a good day everyone and don't eat too much Birthday cake Nina :)

JeanieG 09-28-2014 10:11 AM

Honchey- such a "mean" grandma - making your grands eat their veggies. I'm a "mean" grandma too. I use to make them taste everything, they will eventually develop a taste for them if you make them take a bite or two. Sometimes they just wouldn't like what it "looks" like, so once they take a bite they find out it tastes pretty good.

We are back from out trip to Arizona. First we went on our monthly Camping Trip with our RV group to Malibu, CA, then to AZ to visit grandkids, then to Page, AZ to see Antelope Canyon (google it!), then to Laughlin for a night, then home on Friday.

dublb 09-28-2014 11:54 AM

I too am a mean DGM. LOL My DGSon made such a smart remark that I made him eat all his squash in March. If he hadn't been such a smart aleck I would only have only made him taste it. I did tell him that he should have eatten the yucky stuff first so as ta git it outta the way. He now tells his DM that he is gonna eat the yucky stuff first. LOL

janRN 09-28-2014 01:23 PM

QNS happy birthday a day late! Sounds like you enjoyed your company and I'm sure they enjoyed your cooking.

Anne, QOTS blocks are different from Block a Day. I have all 36 minis from QOTS done--they're cute and addicting, can't make just one LOL. I'll have to post a pic tomorrow, MrJanRn isn't home and I still don't know how to do it from my phone.

Jeanie, welcome home. Sounds like a great trip. Now to rest or to sew????

When I was growing up I thought there were only 2 vegetables: canned corn & canned peas. My mother worked til 6pm most evenings and my dad cooked. Never varied: hamburgers on Monday, pork chops on Tuesday, etc. but never any other veggie but corn or peas.

QuiltingNinaSue 09-28-2014 03:13 PM

Thank you for your Happy BDs; it was this year, and I am still feeling young after meeting the 98 year old woman at the check out in the grocery store. I have baked 2 loaves of bread and made Anne's Rice Pudding today. And trying another time to get my Cinnamon Rolls dough to raise...I threw out the first dough try...too heavy, and did not raise. Proved another cup of yeast, and away we go again.

Welcome back, JeanieG. Sounds like quite a trip. Dublb, good to hear from you as well. Still waving to others.:wave::wave::wave:

oksewglad 09-28-2014 07:11 PM

Happy Belated birthday, QNS. Sounds like you had a good day! Bummer on the bread not rising, could you have killed yeast with too hot of liquids? Just something I might do.
Another mean Gma here:mad:. As you know the 5 are here so often, I have to hold my ground or I'd get run over. They keep coming back, so I mustn't be that mean.
Sis and BIL back on the road. Was good to have them here. Sis likes to work in the flower beds, so got one cleaned out. We were going to work on others, but I ended up defrosting the upright freezer. The door was left ajar after I got the porkchops out the night before. Only food thawed was the liver for the dog and a couple of small apple containers and a box of ice cream bars for the kids that was stored in the door. Now I have a frost free freezer!
Picked apples yesterday. Need to sort and store good ones in the fridge for later use. Tomorrow is bookwork--too nice to be inside, but that's the breaks.

JeanieG 09-28-2014 08:26 PM

Just asking - has anyone heard from Mirabelle lately???? Seems like it has been a month or better since I have seen her post?

Honchey 09-28-2014 08:59 PM

I emailed her several weeks ago and she said she's overwhelmed with committed/promised BOM's etc....She's apparently very busy....

JeanieG 09-28-2014 10:08 PM

Thanks Anne - glad she is okay, I was kind of worried!

QuiltingNinaSue 09-29-2014 05:07 AM

Mirabelle did a short post in Sylvia and Anael did a "hi" back or vice versa. JanieW replied from Russia that she was interested in our next project....as did Dublb from Texas I noted since their email was directed to everyone.

Sweet roll bread made on second try, but I was too impatient with them and took them out too soon, with the middle not cooking though...so the chickens get the rolls, too. Did not need those calories, so not trying it again soon. Need to recover from bf visit and being on my feet too much and rest today...but will I? Things to do, including book work so we will see. Enough cooked so just have to catch on dirty dishes...as soon as I can.

Beautiful fall day outside. May you have a good one.
