Oh great quilt QNS! What fun to find old photos like this one!

mirabelle 08-31-2013 11:23 PM

Beautiful MB Carriem they all look great together.

QNS made it to 6,000 wow,

we are just home, decided at the last minute to drive an hour and a half to surprise DD and her new BF at lunch, best laid plans always go astray, I got lost and had to phone her and ask the directions to the restaurant:D:D:D but in the end we had a lovely lunch and her new beau is very charming:thumbup:

JanieW 09-01-2013 07:12 AM

I just wanted to to tell whomever sent me the August MB that it is still languishing in Canada Customs. It is Labour Day weekend here so no mail until Tuesday and I am leaving for a very much needed weeks' holiday Tuesday morning so even if it comes then, I'll be gone before the postie visits.

I am sure the block will be waiting for me when I get back and I will post then. No worries on my end, just didn't want the sender to think I was ignoring you.

Hope all are having a terrific weekend.

Anael 09-01-2013 08:20 AM

I made a pie, with pineapple and lemon this time. Very very good :D :D
So hurry to the RV ! ! !

JeanieG 09-01-2013 09:47 AM

I'm running to the RV for some of that pie! YUM!

QuiltingNinaSue 09-01-2013 11:14 AM

Janie, enjoy your break, and I hope your MB is n your box when you get home. You can tell us then how much fun you had on your adventures.

Anael, I am coming on a slow run, baby steps, to get some pie. It sounds so yummmy. Just eat another piece for me, it might get stale before I can get there!

I posted another quilt on SYE site, that I made and was for a very special young lady on her sixth birthday, designed and drew all six horses just for her. Her adopted Mother bought all the fabric for the quilt. And the fringe.

dublb 09-01-2013 11:34 AM

I'm spendin' taday gittin' ready ta go dove huntin' th'sevenin'. I had ta git my huntin' licenses. Then I needed boots 'cause I left my boots in Brady. (I sure don't want ta git snake bit!) DH & I have been diggin' out our huntin' stuff. Most o' it is in his office, in boxes.

mirabelle 09-01-2013 12:45 PM

Yummy Pie Anael, love pineapples...

Anael 09-01-2013 10:31 PM

QNS, we will save you a piece of the pie :)

The Ode to my Mom top is assembled, I will take a picture later today. I still have to find fabric for the borders. I don't know what color will be best. Will audition some colors and see what the top wants.
It's a weird feeling not to have to sew blocks for my mom. But it's not finished yet......I have no idea how to quilt it. I don't want to ruin it and I don't want to send it to a LA'er. We do have a few here in The Netherlands :)

Anael 09-01-2013 10:43 PM

QuiltE, did you notice I did stick to the plan? :D :D There's a first time for everything :) I had a hard time not wandering away from the blocks but I didn't. I'm proud of myself.......LOL LOL

mirabelle 09-02-2013 02:56 AM

OMG that is one absolutely beautiful exquisite quilt top, I just can't stop looking at it, each time you look you see something different. But my favourite block is the one with the three stars and stem and leaves..:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumb up::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::t humbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

mirabelle 09-02-2013 02:58 AM

Or maybe I like the block in the second row from the top with the purple petals and green centre:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: :eek: I just may have to look at this quilt top a little closer:D

carriem 09-02-2013 04:05 AM

Anael--as you posted the blocks I thought each one was really pretty, but seeing them all together...WOW! It is great!! Like Mirabelle, I see a different "favorite" each time I look.

gardnergal970 09-02-2013 04:25 AM

Gasp....Anael....your quilt is jaw dropping gorgeous!!!!!! What is the name of the pattern again? That would be one I would put in my bucket list. I love it.:D:thumbup: It is both colorful and creative. I'm sure you will figure out how and when to do the quilting. Your love will never ruin it!
Friday night our refrigerator died in the 90 degree heat too! Saturday my DH went shopping for something that would fit in the space we have. Not a big kitchen designed when all of the appliances were smaller. He scored and arranged to have a new fridge delivered yesterday...got it at Lowes. It fits perfectly but seems to hold a lot more than the old one of the same size. When moving things around yesterday, I jammed my toe on the table leg...I'm always barefoot in the house...and I think I broke it. Fortunately it's the one next to my big toe so I can walk on the side of my foot and get around fairly good. I had planned to do up apples but I think a day in the sewing room is more in order. Maybe....

janRN 09-02-2013 04:28 AM

Anael, that is the most awesome quilt ever!! Your colors are so pretty and each block is prettier than the last one--I couldn't pick a favorite either. I can't imagine doing something like that. Love it!!

Great MBs again this month, ladies. And they're filling in a future quilt nicely.

I just got caught up on the posts and apologize for lack of comments. I'm kind of back to work full-time and trying to decide if I'm going to keep doing it or go back to one day a week or just flat out retire. I'm so blessedly healthy for my age that I feel guilty not working. If I thought I was taking a job away from someone who needed it, I'd leave but when we have a job opening, no one wants it (pay in doctor's offices is much lower than that in clinics or hospitals). Lots of thinking to do. Any advice?? Finances don't play a part in the decision; it's entirely up to me and what I want to do.

Hope everyone will have a great Labor Day. Maybe a picnic or a parade or time with family. Enjoy (and yes, Anael, get out those Sunday dishes!)

Anael 09-02-2013 04:34 AM

Thank you ladies :) :)

GG, it's from www.frommyhearttoyourhands.com and the pattern is called Ode to the 1930's A Sampler Quilt.
It's still available.
You're like me, always barefoot but I never broke anything. So will you be wearing shoes from now on?

oksewglad 09-02-2013 05:53 AM

I saw Anael's quilt on her thread and yes I had the same reaction everyone else has had. Anael your quilt will never be finished because even when you do actually put that last stitch of binding on; you will revisit the quilt as you touch it and your mother's memory will be forever in your heart and soul.

Anael 09-02-2013 06:55 AM

OK, thanks! You've said it so well.
It would have been lovely to have a daughter myself but I don't. I do have a granddaughter and I want her to have this quilt once I'm gone. There won't be more grandkids so she will be the only granddaughter I'll ever have.

deranged_damsel 09-02-2013 07:05 AM

SO SO purdy Aneal :D :D :D I really wonder if you could find someone to hand quilt it??? That would be amazing I think.
but YOU are great at machine quilting! why are you worried about messing it up? your work would be FABULOUS!!! maybe it is just nerves. :D

Honchey 09-02-2013 07:06 AM

All of you have been busy, busy, busy and I have been busy, busy, busy with the GK and DS...Now I will be busy, busy, busy packing for the trip to NC... I have all my fabric together for several different projects, MB, SYE and another...I hope to make some progress on them...

Anael, You quilt is beautiful and seeing all the blocks you've been showing for it together is breathtaking...I kid you not!!!

Jan, You're still young & healthy enough to do what you feel is best for you..I gave up my hours and am now called in when needed and I happen to like it that way...I just let them know when I'll be unavailable and they work their time off around it....and if I ever get to move to DE..the Gallery there would like me to work for them occasionally also...

GGal,Ouch!!! toes hurt!! tape the big toe to the injured one..it helps to stabilize it...

QNS... What a cute quilt & photo of you & DH...at first I couldn't see the window:)

Carrie...MB blocks look great together..what color sashing will you use???

I'm off to get the Spike thread together for posting at midnight tonight so I can pack my CP..I did get a new one & Windows 8 is not my friend right now...
Have a good holiday everyone and will check in later...H.

carriem 09-02-2013 08:28 AM

Ggal--Sorry to hear about the toe! Hope you are getting lots of sewing in while resting. :)

Jan--I can't help you much having never worked full time outside the home. I would say maybe cutting back to 1 day a week would keep you busy (and help pay for those FARTS). :) On the other days you can make friends with S-16 (once she's running again).

Honchey--Have a great trip and get lots of sewing in. I haven't decided on sashing for my MBs yet, but I have been thinking about it....

Oh I wish I had time ta post ta each o' ya'll!!! I just love your quilt Anael! (I have loved watchin' it grow. :) ) I have loved seein' what everybody has posted, that is in progress!
I will go dove huntin' th'sevenin' just like I did last night. :) (A family tradition. :) ) I'm gonna will head out ta my retreat a day early. :D I'm leavin' on Wed afternoon. I will hunt tamarrow night also. I"ve gotta git everythin' packed a day earlier!
I did finish Gretchen last week:) I just realized that I haven't posted her.

Well I guess I'd better start packin' & gittin' ready for my retreat.

JeanieG 09-02-2013 01:29 PM

Oh My Anael, there are not words to express how wonderful that quilt is. It is so interesting, you could look at it for an hour and still see something you missed. WOW!!! You did an amazing job with it! That applique, no way could I have done that quilt.

mirabelle 09-02-2013 02:31 PM

Lots of chatting this morning,
Ggal I hope it is not the pedal foot, that might make sewing painful:eek:

JanRN you will make the decision that is right for you, I had always worked full time but when we moved interstate DH and I decided that I would retire as we were finally in a better financial position and it took some adjustments, I was "lost" for a while but now am happy playing with my fabric when I want to and not just in stolen minutes on weekends. Think about what YOU want...

Bev I love the Gretchen block, I made a Gretchen quilt in late 2003, it was Thanksgiving weekend and I spent the weekend in Alice Springs doing a class with Kaye England from the States. She is a fabulous teacher and a lovely lady. Still have the quilt,

Now I am off to the Post Office to release another MB

oksewglad 09-02-2013 03:15 PM

Oh mirabelle you are always one step ahead of us;). I'm just thinking about my Sept MB and yours is off in the mail--granted yours always has a long way to travel!!
Nice block dublb!
Ouch! Lucky GGal it wasn't on the pedal to the metal foot!
Carrie watch that shoulder--okay.
Jan--good thoughts to you as you make this decision. Only you can decide which way to go; make the one that fits for you.

So I've been messing around with little things again. One quilt guild friend gives me a nice bag of scraps and kindly requests "one of your little ones"; so I make her a flimsy now and again from some of her fabrics. She made a beautiful one patch posy from the fabrics in this little shoo fly. This finishes just under 11" and will work perfectly on a 12" wire stand. Enjoy.

mirabelle 09-02-2013 03:22 PM

Oksewglad that is so cute, you certainly know how to turn little bits into things of beauty..

JeanieG 09-02-2013 03:42 PM

Lucky friend to receive this "little one" from you, OK!

Blue Bell 09-02-2013 03:53 PM

OKSEWGLAD=====your mini's are awesome. You certainly have a talent for making miniatures. I would be happy to give you a bag of my scraps and getting a mini in return! OR your secret on how you make them.

Honchey 09-02-2013 06:32 PM

OK, your flimsy is so cute...what size seams do you sew for the little mini's?

Dublb your Gretchen turned out perfect...great job! What do you do with the quail??? they are so little....

dublb 09-02-2013 08:47 PM

LOL Honchey, I usually eat 3 or 4 dove at a time. Ya want a bunch when ya fix 'em. I like ta eat quail also but I won't hunt 'em. The quail here are called "Blues" & they don't flush well, so ya have ta chase 'em. I don't run. I don't run a'tall. Ya can flush Bob Whites. Once they flush ya can shoot 'em. (We haven't had any Whites in a long while.) Dove huntin' is totally different. Ya sit at a tank & hope they will come in for a drink. They usually don't come close enough. When they do come in close enough & ya shoot, they zig-zag, do loop d' loops, make perfect right angle turns. (LOL We didn't practice this year so we are bad shots this year. Some o' 'em fly by all o' us & nary a feather gits ruffled, even though we all took our turns at 'em.) While ya are watchin for 'em ta come in ya have your gun on safety but ready. Ya have ta know where everyone is at all times so ya talk. Ya always shoot in the air never low. If the bird comes in low ya don't shoot at it. If a bird lands ya don't shoot at it either. If someone goes ta git a bird that they shot, ya don't shoot that way either. When ya see a bird comin' toward someone, ya holler what direction they are comin' from & name the person that might be able ta shoot it. When ya see a bird comin' your way ya have ta determine if it is a dove or not. There are birds that look like dove & others that don't look like 'em but do fly like 'em. Ya have ta be very careful. (I've never shot the wrong kind o' bird. I've only shot dove! :) ) When ya shoot a dove ya take your gun w/ya, & look for snakes. Sometimes ya look all over the place for one that ya shot & don't find 'em. (I lost 1 taday. :( ) Sometimes the bird just landed & ya thought ya had shot it. It'll just git up & fly away.:mad::thumbdown::D When ya find a dove that ya shot, ya never just pick it up, ya look first for snakes. Once ya know that there are no snakes & ya have your dove then ya git back ta your huntin' place a quickly as ya can safely. (ie Ya don't run w/a gun. LOL) We encourage each other when we git one & groan w/each other as we miss. Ya stop when ya git your limit or at sundown, which ever comes first. This year the limit is 15. I guess they are afraid that there isn't enough brush ta feed most o' the dove & want more o' 'em harvested, so they don't starve.
Well I see that I've rambled enough on a subject that most o' ya'll aren't interested in.

Anael 09-02-2013 10:11 PM

OK, another great mini!

Bev, lovely Gretchen.

GG, how's the toe?

mirabelle 09-02-2013 11:31 PM

Bev, very interesting story, how do you cook the doves, just roast them or what??? inquiring minds need to know

gardnergal970 09-03-2013 04:34 AM

Anael...thanks for asking. I sewed yesterday morning and by afternoon it was pretty swollen so I elevated and iced. Made a great difference and reduced the swelling significantly. Still sore and purple this morning but I can navigate. It is my pedal foot but the position it's in didn't seem to bother it. Today I'm going to lunch with a couple if my quilting buddies and then to our LQS for my birthday shopping party. I get a 20% discount and they get a 10% discount. I don't plan to go too crazy since I have a couple of projects I haven't even started plus the several that I have yet to finish. I was planning to do Quilts from Els kitchen BOM at the LQS later this year but I just found her video of that on line and she does all of the teaching so I think I'll save my money. I'm really leaning towards the Ode to the 30s that you did. That looks like a yard of 3 or 4 main fabrics and then FQs would do it. What do you think?
I see the first Spikers posted eyecandy. I'm not happy with my first block and will redo it. Values are still my weakness!!

carriem 09-03-2013 04:41 AM

Dublb--I like your Gretchen block. Thanks for sharing about dove hunting...sounds similar to duck hunting.

OK--Another great mini! I have that fabric, made a table runner for my Grandma for Christmas last year.

Mirabelle--You mentioned your quilts you donate (on the SYE thread), I would be interested in seeing some pictures. It is a great ministry to those women.

Ggal--glad to hear you are moving. Don't over do it today!! Happy Birthday. :)

Anael 09-03-2013 05:10 AM

GG, the fabric requirements say 3 yards for the background and a total of 3 1/2 yards for piecing and applique. I'm sure FQ's will do, even large scraps. You don't need much fabric for each block. The border takes 2 yards or 2.5 when you want mitered corners. Backing: 5 yards, binding 3/4 yard.
I'm glad you can navigate :) Great birthday shopping with that discount! Pitty they don't use your age for discount :D :D :D I guess it will be a bit more than those 20%.

QuiltingNinaSue 09-03-2013 05:12 AM

Happy Birthday, GG. I hear you are a winner in the Aim for accuracy...congrads there. Glad to hear you are moving around. Unfortunately, for broken toes, they just tape two together and let it heal. MIL had kicked a chair in a hurry to get to the restroom and was dismayed at their 'fix' with her broken toe eras ago.

Yes, 'eye' candy in the SYE this morning. lovely blocks, unique and interesting, love them all.

Dublb, glad to hear you are having fun with dove hunting. Dh did that with his father a lot and relives some occasions yet today. Also did pheasant and quail hunting, but the quail have decreased in Iowa, too, so he just relives what happened in his youth. It takes a good shot to hit a dove, lots of wasted shots trying to hit one. Have fun.

Everyone have a good day.

dublb 09-03-2013 08:26 AM

I used ta make a great pot o' Dove & Dumplin's but can't eat the dumplin's any more so don't do that. DH grill's 'em some times (wrapped in bacon). I'm thinkin' o' puttin these in the crock pot w/DH's BBQ sauce. Yummmm.

mirabelle 09-03-2013 01:42 PM

Happy birthday GGal, hope you have a great day

gardnergal970 09-03-2013 03:18 PM

Thanks all...this is my birthday month...my birthday is the 14th and since it it my 70th year, I'm celebrating all month long. I enjoyed lunch with my QBs and then we shopped. Only yardage was 5 yards of tone on tone cream and a couple FQs. Otherwise it was blades, lighted seam ripper, pattern book, and a couple if Eleanor Burns templates. I'm exploring more ways to skin a cat.....make a block....and Eleanor's flying geese don't have wonky wings. I love it. I found it on YouTube.
I remember from last year that there are several other September birthdays this month...QNS for sure. Who else?
For those of you wondering...I was the maker of Dubib's MB. I'm glad she liked it.
