Wonderful Jeanie and so many tiny pieces ! ! ! How long did it take to piece it?

Beautiful, JeanieG. What a finish you have; makes the work all worthwhile when they turn out so wonderful! Love the Blues and reds in the quilt that gives it that 'wow' factor.

Anael - Bonnie Hunter Mysteries always start the day after Thanksgiving. You get the fabric requirements the month before that. You get a set of instructions each Friday until around New Years, or a week after. I finished piecing this one around the middle of January. It has sat in a box until last month when I quilted it.
QNS - I forgot how beautiful the quilt was until I put it on the clothesline and took a look at it from afar. You work on them so close that you don't get the full impact until you can hang them up finished and get another look. |
That is so beautiful, Jeanie! What patience you have to make all those blocks. (I get bored if I make 3 or 4 the same). I love those colors and the quilting. Great job!

Jan, you don't just make blocks. The way Bonnie sets this up is doing it in sections. We did the little blue strip pieces one week, we did the hourglass shapes another week, and the red strips another week. A set of HST another week. It is not till you get to the final week that she reveals how all these sections go together. It is always a surprise! She does not overwhelm you with these sections. You have all week to get them done.

JeanieG ... ITA it's an amazing quilt! All those little pieces have come together for a really stunning quilt for you. True credit to you, for sticking with all that piecing. Even in following it thru in the incremental steps ... a lot of sameness with in each step. You're right ... not often enough, we allow ourselves that distant view to truly enjoy our quilts.

Jan...by doing those little steps on a weekly basis and knowing there will another clue in a week, it never gets boring. Plus, going them scrappy, even controlled scrappy, each block is just a bit different and after the reveal, you can't wait to get everything together just to see how your fabrics looks in her pattern. And there is something about doing it with a group if people that takes the boring out of it to. I had a FART yesterday with my QB' and came home loaded down. I haven't done any major project purchasing since forever, just adding to what I already have to complete something so yesterday, I found the perfect fabric for my DD's wedding quilt. The shopkeeper got out her cart and started laying out the bolts of fabric as I selected them, knew just what might go with them, helped me evaluate without telling me what I should use and then carefully labeled each fabric as she cut it so I wouldn't forget how it fit my pattern. By the time I got done my QBs had finished and I still hadn't explored the store. I will go back! The next two stores contained treasures too...this time to compliment something I have started...good thing we don't do this everyday. Now to sew fast.... |
GardenGal, I think sewing a wedding quilt for a DD is the sweetest, most rewarding of all quilting a Mother can do...love to see a picture of it whenever...even after her wedding. A Son is a son until he takes a wife, but a daughter is a daughter all her life. And then, if your are lucky one, there will be grandchildren to make quilts for, to spoil and send them home with their parents....and to buy the grandchildren the nosiest toys for Christmas to send home with them.
Haircut day. Hope it makes me feel better...now if she could make me feel years younger it would be sooo nice. Florida is started...one wedge almost finished...four more stars to go this month...but its more fun to work on the I SPY quilt for friend's two yr old grandson...or play with another project... Hope youall have a good day.. |
I. too, started a Bonnie Hunter Mystery??? I sewed one week the wrong way and the pieces got mixed up..now I have a jumble of pieces that need to be straighted out...some day...I have too many projects!!!!

Just checking in with everyone. Have been busy in my sewing room as usual and trying to do some gardening in between showers of rain. It has rained every day for the past week and grey depressing skies, I agree Mother Nature has a sick sense of humour..
JanRN your MB turned out beautiful, what a treasured memory quilt to snuggle under with hugs from everyone.. DDamsel such cute puppies, eleven oh my:D JeanieG your Orca Bay is stupendous, I have always wanted to do a BH Mystery but her colour palettes always put me off and then when I see the finished quilt I love it. Maybe I should just bite the bullet one year and do it!!!! DH is having a nap, he has just arrived home after a week of night shift, I don't know if I have ADD or OCD or I am just a PITA:D:D:D:D hmm might have to ask someone???? |
