I first fussy cut the 2 sides then decided to do a "landscape".

Thar's Gold Nuggets in them thar hills. A milk cow was worth it's weight in gold during the Gold Rush days...I think??? Anyway here's my version of this week's block. one of them anyway...H,

Honchey---I like your block much better than mine! Great fussy cutting/landscape!!

I like my Gretchen. Gold Nuggets hasn't been squared up so it looks a little off, but at least this time I have the extra fabric to make it the right size!

Here are my blocks for the week:

Honchey, I love your scenic cows! And your colors, CarrieM. I tried to "reorganize" Gold Nuggets and tell a ranch story with Gretchen...four different ranch brands...
Wonder what the ranchers did with all their "used" horse shoes?? My nephew makes them into rockers and other items and sells them on internet.

QuiltingNinaSue 05-29-2012 07:08 PM

Gold Nuggets are true gems of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness...

QuiltE 05-29-2012 07:33 PM

Honchey ... of course you knew I;d like the the cows!

CarrieM ... Both a re nice blocks, though I will confess that I reeeeeally like your Gretchen!!

QNSue ... Another great pair telling stories. You have a real talent for making each block a little more special!

And you're all right ... no more blocks from me for now.

Beautiful blocks as usual from everyone.
Here are mine for this week, I thoroughly enjoyed making Gretchen as I have made a full Gretchen quilt. I started it in a workshop with Kaye England back in 2003 when she was touring Australia so lots of great memories of a wonderful lady and tutor.

Everyone has done a great job on these blocks. I will be helping my 10yr old dd get her binding on her quilt tomorrow before I can sew. She is trying to finish so she can take it to the 4-H/County Fair.

I just got an email from Blank Quilting and have to share the link to one of their new lines called Round Up II: http://www.blankquilting.com/blankqu...age=/index.php

QNS - Ya know how I feel about those patriotic fabric! Awesome Golden Nuggets. Great Grettchen.
Jeannie - Congratulations on your separation from your seam ripper. I can't seam ta leave mine alone. I love the contrast in your blocks!
Meribelle - Love your fabric choices! Great blocks! It's good that ya got ta go down quiltin' memory lane. Isn't Gretchen the same block as Hunter's star.
DD - All your blocks look great w/ that barbed wire, & these are no exception. Lovely!

dublb 05-30-2012 06:27 PM

GrannieQ - Those are Beautiful blocks. I knew they were yours as soon as I saw 'em.

carriem 05-31-2012 12:00 PM

GrannyQ and Termi...both have great blocks!

I really like the Gretchen block...it would make a very nice quilt.

oksewglad 05-31-2012 06:57 PM

A great start to this week's blocks, Honchey--great fabric placement with the cows in the pasture.
Carrie--top notch blocks, especially like the Gretchen
QNS--FC the eagles --fantastic; and a great Gretchen. My FIL made a couple of door knockers with them.
Jeanie--the simple setting in the nuggest focuses on the heart of the block. Wonderful red contrast in Gretchen.
mirabelle--such a lovely fabric combo in the gol--I mean Red nugget. One thinkg about little pics exploding into larger ones one can really see your great piecing!!
DD--oh those straight barbs shine through again. Have you decided on a border yet?
GrannyQ--another buttery blue. Gretchen has such a sharp contrast, too.
Termi--I think your blocks are my favorite this week. I love the transition from wood (fence) to apples to trees (orchard) with the horses set in the sides. And a cute floral that is so well matched with the gold in Gretchen.

Such a sugar rush, gals!--Guess I need some broccoli to calm it down!!!

JeanieG 05-31-2012 09:25 PM

Great blocks again this week Termi!

dublb 05-31-2012 11:49 PM

Sorry I've been AWOL; my mother was ready to come home from rehab then fell and her health has spiraled downward this week. I love all the blocks everyone has posted. I'm posting mine but they haven't been pressed, trimmed or blocked.

QuiltingNinaSue 06-02-2012 04:53 AM

Beautiful, JanRN. Sorry to hear your Mother is not doing well. {[hugs)]}

carriem 06-02-2012 05:54 AM

Jan--very nice blocks...really like the purple in Gretchen. Sorry to hear about your mom.

Honchey 06-02-2012 06:32 AM

Hi Jan, Sorry about your mom...it's not easy...Your blocks are perfect!!! I zoomed in on them and they are amazingly perfect....You all know I love to see perfect points!!! Have you been looking in my stash??? I've been contemplating doing some purples and I just went thru the blacks and yellows....we certainly have been on the same wave length....My son is back home now and is recooperating very nicely...it's been very trying to say the least... I'm tired of the upstairs downstairs situation with my sewing stuff!!! my brain says get some sewing done..then I end up moving something else around and no sewing gets done....soon, I hope.....H.

oksewglad 06-02-2012 07:34 AM

Jan, your blocks are beautiful. I too like the purples in Gretchen. I'm glad you could get some sewing done. Little pleasures help ease the mind during a stressful time, take care.

JeanieG 06-02-2012 05:49 PM

Jan - everyone said the same thing I was thinking - I love the purple too! Beautiful blocks! Prayers for you mom!

Honchey, glad things are looking better for you!

dublb 06-02-2012 06:35 PM

Jan & Honchey - Our prayers have been w/both of ya'll.
Jan - I'm so sorry your DM is doin' worse. I'm still prayin' for ya & her. Your blocks are so nice. I'm so impressed w/how ya are able ta make these blocks durrin' all of these hard times.
Honchey - I'm glad that your life seems ta be levelin' out a little, but it does seem like ya have a long row ta hoe. Again my prayers are still w/ya & your DS.

Termi 06-03-2012 08:59 AM

Well it's not Tuesday morning but maybe these can still be enjoyed for afternoon break. I just got home from Texas late last night and just now got time to sit and enjoy my sewing room. Haven't started next week's blocks but that will be my putter project to unwind this afternoon.

dublb 06-05-2012 09:49 AM

These are great blocks. I love the colors!

carriem 06-05-2012 03:58 PM

QuiltE 06-09-2012 06:24 PM

I'm waaaaaay behind here Ladies .... your blocks are beauuuuuutiful!
Especially the Gretchen's ... so many breat fabric combos ... wouldn't they all make for beautiful quilts just with that block!!!

Am I right? wrong? ... Gretchen is a Hunter's Star with a pinwheel added?

JanRN
... so sorry about your Mom's tumble. I know how much this must be breaking your ♥ to have her still in the hospital? or rehab? Good for you for sneaking some sewing time in ... good therapy for you!
