More beautiful sets of blocks! Someone said how great it would be to see all these quilts in 1 room...YES!! That would be awesome..they are all so different...all so gorgeous!

(thanks to ya'll for the compliments on my Jane)

leakus 11-07-2010 05:38 PM

Dagny, your quilt is going to be gorgeous! I wish I had 24 already!!!

JeanieG 11-07-2010 07:03 PM

[quote=Dagny]My first 25 ... and then some. I've been attaching the sashing to one side of each block so that I can get them out periodically, look them over, and see how the quilt is progressing.[/quote\

Hey what a great idea Dagny to attach the sashing to one side of each block! I wish I knew what color I am going to use - have not even decided the color, let along picked out the fabric! Huge decision!

Your blocks are so colorful, love them.

janRN 11-07-2010 07:07 PM

Dagny that looks so nice!! I love the colors you're using and that's a neat idea to add the sashing now.
Leakus (and everyone) thank you so much for the encouragement to keep going on this--I am learning so much and loving the interaction with all you guys. (Glad I'm not the only one who's "color challenged" Leakus-makes me feel better to share the affliction LOL)

rwquilts 11-08-2010 05:45 AM

Dagney, your quilt will be beautiful! I just LOVE looking on this thread and seeing the newly posted blocks! Keep em coming!

Dagny, all I can do is repeat what others have said about your quilt - lovely - pretty - well made - sashing looks great, etc., etc., etc. My own observation is that your quilt looks warm, soft, cuddly and inviting. How wide did you cut your sashing? I know it shouldn't be cut as wide as for a 12-inch finished block. And yours looks the perfect width. Belles

Dagny 11-08-2010 01:46 PM

Thank you, everyone. My quilt will be in good company with all of your beauties.

My fabric is Moda Fresh Cotton, and it's way, way outside my comfort zone of fabrics, but it seemed right for this project.

I cut my sashing per the instructions in the book, which I think is about 1-1/4.

sew cornie 11-08-2010 02:39 PM

WOW!!!! Holy buckets, what a fantastic quilt show this is! Congratulations everyone for your outstanding work. What fun to go through these pages and see how far you have all come. Every one of these block sets has its own personality and character and is indescribably beautiful! I'M SO GLAD I JOINED THIS GROUP!! (she shouts silently so as not to scare her children) LOL. I have mine done through #24. One more to go, then I'll get to post too.

For those of you wondering about sashing and cornerstones, it's exactly like Sandpat says: lay them out on several different possibilities and see what works. A couple of weeks ago, I posted a thread with 5 color choices for mine and asked for opinions. What great input I received! I finally decided yesterday what my final choice will be, and it all came about because of the suggestions of others. It's a combination I wouldn't have thought of on my own and I really love it. You'll just have to wait until I finish block #25 for me to post my picture . . . Like Dagny, I intend to cut and attach sashings as I go. Since I'm using the template method, the thought of having to do all the sashings and cornerstones at the end was awful. I'm glad to have that choice out of the way and can concentrate once again on the blocks.

I can't wait to see more block sets. Thank you all for sharing your pictures and for your positive encouragement of all the participants in this project. This group is awesome!

You all are so talented. I am so far behind (I think I've got 12 done). However, the carpeting (whole house) is being done today and tomorrow, things can start being moved back and hopefully start getting caught up. My house has been in an uproar with remodeling since May. My sewing room is 4 bear walls and I miss my quilting. Since looking at your pictures I am getting my "fix" vitually!!!! Keep it up. I'm going to catch up soon.

Just think how happy you will be in your newly done sewing room. Time to relax after all that hard work!

That's an excellent choice of sashing, Honchey.

sew cornie 11-10-2010 12:16 PM

Honchey, your sashing color is great! Makes those blocks pop!

Blue Bell 11-10-2010 12:37 PM

I haven't decided what I'm going to use for sashing yet, but I'm looking at what I have in my stash.

Absolutely amazing how your sashing helps make the blocks sparkle. I would never have thought of red - but it sure works! Belles

JeanieG 11-10-2010 03:07 PM

The rose color makes all the pinks stand out in your blocks. Good choice!

It's not a true red-has some brown in it- it's more a brick red. Sorry-- I don't mean to get technical. I almost went with a burgandy and it was too dark, a dark green made the blocks flat. It's a moda-can't remember the line.

rwquilts 11-10-2010 05:45 PM

Looking good!!!

pookie ookie 11-10-2010 06:48 PM

It's the perfect red, Honchey.

I bought my sashing yesterday. Couldn't decide so I bought two colors. lol Will decide in a few days when I have time for cutting.

mirabelle 11-10-2010 10:08 PM

Great choice for the sashing Honchey, are you goingl to set your blocks straight or on point.

Honchey 11-11-2010 07:29 AM

I never even thought about doing them straight. I finished a stack and whack on point several months ago and the only thing I didn't like about it is there's alot of stretching . If it's done straight-you miss out on the effect of the side diamonds. A hint ladies--when you cut for the diamonds-starch till the fabric is like a board before you cut AND add a half inch to the square before you cut in half. You won't lose your points after the triangles have been added to the sides. I taught a class on that and my students were so happy that the points were still there after squaring up the quilt.

Now that I'm teaching f/t I feel like it's always catch-up time. But it feels so great to have started this project & be far enough into it and happy enough with the results so far to want to keep it going. It's keeping me in the quilting process - at least a couple blocks every couple weeks. And DH finished the install of my new design wall just about the time that I outgrew my portable bulletin board felt board to see them all laid out as we go.

I'm trying not to repeat fabrics so far, but that will probably get a little tougher as we progress. Now that we're this far, I've got to get back to the site & print out the template pages for the last 50 blocks. I have been keeping a binder w/template pieces in plastic sandwich bags stapled to the rotary cutting instructions, & the dates of block completion. Tho the layout grid is staying on the computer 'til all is input.

I like the idea about starting to attach a sashing strip to one side, tho haven't even really begun to think about a color yet...

Great fun! Thanks to all for this project - it's helping me keep my sanity this time around in the teaching process (so far!)

JAGSD 11-11-2010 07:54 AM

Aunto jo
BEAUTIFUL!

janRN 11-11-2010 08:54 AM

Very nice-it's so exciting to see all 25 together. I love your scrappy look.

wvdek 11-12-2010 07:33 AM

Oh my, what a wonderful way to start the day. Great 'eye candy' everyone. So many varieties and color combos.
Since I have only been able to get about 6 blocks done, I will refrain from posting. School is too high a priority. Christmas break tho, that is a different story.
Thanks for the postings. Beautiful.

Well everyone, I've had a terrible time deciding on the sashing strips. I have two photos below, one with the light tan and one with the darker tan as possibilities. I'm not really fond of either of them. I got a small print from the selection, but did not like it at all. What do you think of the red that is in the blocks??? I just don't know...anyway please give me your thoughts.

sew cornie 11-15-2010 02:19 PM

Jeanie, of the two, I prefer the darker tan. On the lighter one, some of your block edges disappear. For the small print you mentioned, am I correct in understanding that it's a print from the same line of fabrics? Would it work as the cornerstones? When I was auditioning sashings, I found that changing out cornerstone fabric turned a mediocre sashing into a perfect fit.

The darker one looks great, and I think the red print cornerstones would be just what the quilt wants.

Right on Dagny and JeanieG why not give the red cornerstones a try and I'm sure it will brighten up the tans. Belles

Honchey 11-15-2010 03:02 PM

Hi Jeanie, I like the darker better. Anne

Evie 11-15-2010 03:04 PM

Jeanie, I prefer the darker beige. My thought (I have those sometimes :)) is that red, as in your blocks 15 and 16, cornerstones would work really well.

mirabelle 11-15-2010 04:04 PM

I vote for the darker fabric, it lifts the block (if that makes sense)

Dagny 11-15-2010 05:08 PM

My recollection is that one of the fabrics in this line is a black background with small brown details. That one might make a good cornerstone also.

You might be right Dagny. The fabric is a very dark navy (that photographs black) with a similar color brown squiggly circle. Thanks for the suggestion.

Here are my first 25 with my sashing and cornerstone fabrics. The cornerstone color is reading black in the picture, but is actually a deep green.

JeanieG 11-18-2010 11:24 AM

Oh Cornie that is beautiful!

JUNEC 11-18-2010 11:38 AM

Your blocks are beautiful - love your color choices
