I decided to post both pictures one is with flash one without. (Interesting I was just looking at my 3" blocks and believe there are 27 in the picture) hmmm........ more matching mug rugs maybe........Guess I will go check it out. Have a Great Day!

Not necessarily where they will be located

I love your colors in your 30's! I think it was asking for it too, I was thinking dark when thinking bats. Will see what happens at 50 blocks....

janRN 12-02-2010 02:48 PM

Wow--I'm speechless!! Your blocks look beautiful, such nice warm colors. We all seem to have issues with one dark block. I'm sure by the end it will blend in (or we'll all be blind by then LOL). I love your blocks.

deranged_damsel 12-02-2010 03:41 PM

BEAUTIFUL!!! I dont mind the batwing at all, you have several more dark ones to help it blend in. :D I really love you checkerboard block :D

All your blocks are lovely! I am getting ready to order the FW book/CD. Connecting Threads is also offering a supplemental CD. Does anybody else have it? Is it a good thing to have, or just a luxury? Always looking for ways to save a few $$$ to buy more fabric instead!

Quilting Nonnie 12-02-2010 05:28 PM

Judy: Ditto. Everyone said what I was thinking. But what great blocks. They do look so good together. Good job!

BETTY62 12-02-2010 07:37 PM

OMG they are awesom. It's hard to decide which one I like best. Betty

BETTY62 12-02-2010 07:40 PM

Awesome. Love them. Betty

BETTY62 12-02-2010 07:42 PM

No idea. I broke mine before I could look at the disc. :0D

QB wouldn't let me post links. You can find the yahoo group by searching farmerswifesampler and Laurie's blog by searching "farmers wife quilt."

Absolutely beautiful, great job

I am a member of that group and found out from someone here that you can print out your Paper Pieced designs from the site...the companion CD allows you to do that also. The author of the Yahoo group has exclusive rights for the paper pieced patterns I believe? It's not Laurie, the author of the book...go figure!

Thanks everyone for posting these! I am enjoying looking at them so much!!! I love all the different color combinations.
So inspirational!!!!! Thanks again...

Halfsquare 12-04-2010 05:58 AM

Wow. It's interesting how the lights or creams you are using in the blocks is carrying over to give the whole quilt a cohesive look. Love them!

quilter68 12-04-2010 06:00 AM

WoooooooooooW!

Nice work and Thanks for sharing.

Jeanie

I prefer teh black. It actually makes the red stand out more I think. Too much red otherwise. The black adds a real interest. But whatever you choose it will be gorgeous!

Cornie - what a gorgeous combination. Makes me want to try another one with an actual fabric plan! What a concept!

I am so pleased I joined this forum, this is the kind of quilt you always want to make but never seem to get around to starting it.
I just have to finish my last charity quilt (I've made 12) and then I can get back to my FWS blocks.
Will post pics of my quilts soon.

I also am so glad I joined this group. Even though I haven't posted a lot of messages - I am lurking a lot and it has definitely given me motivation. I had a quilt class for a month and actually completed and quilted a quilt last month - but it took me away from everything else. So hopefully this weekend I will get caught up.

I think the one you are referring to is Block #30, it is called End of Day. Is this it?

Those are beautiful. I love the colors. Isn't it great how they look together? Just doing a few at time they're just blocks--that looks like a quilt. Fantastic job!!

Quilting Nonnie 01-07-2011 05:29 AM

Roxanne, those blocks are great. What lovely fabrics and everything looks so good together! Hurray for you!

JAGSD 01-07-2011 05:40 AM

Roxanne,
Beautiful! Your colors look absolutely wonderful together.
I love seeing everyone's sets, like jan said you get to see the actual quilt coming together and they are amazing eye candy.

I did it! My first 25...I'm so excited about this quilt! I love doing different blocks. I may be hooked on sampler quilts! I'm definitely warming to the idea of doing the Pony Quilt after this is finished!

I made my decision on sashing, it's going to be dark brown, like Laurie's in her books.

Also, made the big cataclysmic decision: I'm going to hand quilt this baby! I'm going to do it as QAYG (by hand). I'll quilt each block separately and then add the sashing to connect all the blocks. I really pondered this one, but I just couldn't see having it machine quilted. I wanted each block to be quilted uniquely for that block. I lap quilt and a full-size quilt is a hunka material to keep flipping around my lap. Hence the decision to do a block at a time.

So it'll take me this 15-20 months to make all the blocks. Then another, who knows?, 2 years to quilt. I have a full size quilt that I'm finishing right now. After that I have big squares to quilt on a queen. But it's not the whole thing. It's a string quilt put together so there are plain squares formed. I had it machine quilted on the strings and I'll do the plain squares.

Anywhoo....it's a gonna be a longa longa time till this baby graces my bed!

JeanieG 01-08-2011 04:08 PM

Oh Wow, this is beautiful. I like your idea of the quilt as you go. I am not fond of "all over" quilting. Guess I am of the "old school" where the quilting should enhance the block. I am making this into 2 lap size quilts, so won't have so much to handle, but may break it down into smaller sections. Are you using the sashing piece that is listed in the book? It is an odd size. I may cut 1" strips to put between my blocks, what does everything think?

Lucymae 01-08-2011 04:24 PM

Beautiful!!

Quilting Nonnie 01-08-2011 04:24 PM

I'm thinking that if the sashing is an odd size, like template pieces are, then I'll just round it to a uniform size.

I was also thinking that I could sew a set of four blocks and sashing together to quilt and then just sew the sets of four together ala QAYG.

I'm also am more fond of hand quilting blocks than overall quilting. I've had some very fine machine quilting done on my quilts, but with something as fine as this quilt (that is hoping my version is fine!) I'd like to do the hand quilting.

blossom808 01-08-2011 04:26 PM

Wowie That is sooo nice. GREAT job.

janRN 01-08-2011 07:08 PM

QN: Your blocks look awesome! You are doing such a great job.
I'm also going to have to do QAYG. I'll machine quilt but there's no way I'll be able to do it on my machine. I also like the individual blocks quilted to suit that particular block (does that make sense?) I started out as a handquilter and like the separate quilting in each block. Haven't decided on sashing color yet.
This is so exciting--almost time to post the next 25 blocks!!

JAGSD 01-09-2011 08:15 AM

Quilting Nonnie,
Beautiful!! You are so brave-handquilting (I so admire handquilting)and what a neat idea quilting it as you go.

Quilting Nonnie, I'm thinking I would like to try to do the QAYG--but I've never done it before--would you be able to take some photos of how you do it? Anne
