Zennia, on the Home page of the site you will see a Help button on the top right on the tool bar. Click on that and then click on preparing photos for upload. I don't use Paint but any photo program should allow you to resize your photos. Good luck and I hope I see some of your quilt blocks.

zennia 07-04-2017 11:13 AM

Thanks for the help with the photos. I hope to get started tomorrow when things quiet down here. I will yell for help if i need it and I probably will.

zennia 07-04-2017 11:14 AM

I have my fabric all picked out and anxious to get started.

Ladies, your blocks are so pretty. Sauki, glad to see you post again, missed you. Jayne, the black & gray will make a stunning quilt. Libster, I love your Avatar block, did you make it? Neat pattern.

Here are my blocks - keep forgetting to post..

My avatar block is one that I made for one of our Boom swaps. Her fabric was so pretty that I hated chopping it up really small, so I made a block with large pieces. Then I decided I needed to dress it up a little more. I was pleased with how it turned out. I've just made a 20 1/2" medallion block like that today for my latest great-granddaughter's quilt center. It's looking pretty good even if I did make it. I just hope her Mom likes it.

Here's the first of my July blocks, Auntie's Puzzle. The background is lavender. The other colors are medium and dark burgundy, with just hints of pink and purple. Sorry the colors are off in the picture.

Just finished my second July block, Midnight Pinwheel. I eliminated some seams and HST by using 4 Flying Geese and 4 four-patches.

Beautiful block Jan. Thank you for sharing your construction shortcuts. It is honestly very helpful to hear how other people make the blocks.

Jayne, I'm a firm believer that in life the end result is what counts. I may not do things the same as someone else, but as long as I end up in the same place, I'm happy. To each, his/her own! Whatever works, just go for it!

jaba 07-05-2017 04:28 PM

I've gotten as far as printing out the blocks, my kids are here for 10 days and with Grand daughter Myla, not to much sewing going on at this house. Hope to get them sewn on Sunday.

zennia 07-05-2017 05:27 PM

Good evening, I had a nice quiet afternoon and got to spend some time sewing. I have both of the July block's done and one June. Working backwards but hope to be caught up soon. I t was just so relaxing to look at all your pics and play with my fabric. I am trying to use up some of my civil war fabrics. Not going to try and learn posting pics yet but I will later. having fun, thanks for letting me join.

Now I may end up with the quilt police after me. In fact, I should admit that I redraw the blocks in EQ and use my colors in them. Sometimes, I omit seams....oh no!!! But I like what I have done so far.

I say, do what works, the block comes out looking the same with the same dimensions, and it looks good, and the main thing is you are happy with it, that is the end result and that is what counts. Wonder how many times I would end up in jail as a habitual offender with my non police like attitude. Maybe the fine would be hard labor in a quilt shop, lol.

Love these blocks, such a different look. Was just realizing as I read down thru, I don't get to read everything as its posted so my reading is behind. And I answer some of the quotes as I see them, then go back and read on and find what I have to say has already been said by many, I am just behind in my "2 cents". Now I understand where that saying comes from. And see Just Jan, I don't need a chemo brain to sound like one. By the way, Kudos to you for all you are going thru and keeping your humor, you are enjoyable to listen to.

AnngelAnne 07-06-2017 03:46 AM

I like the idea of shortcuts everyone mentions, when I try it I have a problem with the sizes coming out right, so still a lot of learning on my stuff. Love all the blocks, now that I am caught up on the reading, I will do what I can to catch up on the blocks, lol. Great job everyone.

The good part is I have lots of quilting time! Here is my first block. I really struggled with the flying geese as I have never made them with triangles before. (I always use squares). Any thoughts? Other than one missing point, I'm satisfied and excited to make more! I'm thinking I'm going to use all shades of blue and make a "picnic" blanked. Maybe add some red cornerstones in the sashing... but seeing how I only have one block so far, I have plenty of time to think about that!!

I usually use squares also !! I think I am going to make mine using all HST..........It should work-- right ??!!!

carrot 07-06-2017 09:31 AM

JustJan I can empathize with you. My daughter has Lupus and calls it her Lupus Brain Fog !!!! She also just laughs at her herself. It is good to have a sense of humor !!
JayneW-pippa-Libster-Sauki1-Oksewnsew and JustJan-- awesome blocks !! I will get to mine tomorrow at Laughter In The Loft at my LQS !! Looking forward to seeing more blocks as they are posted!!

Hello everyone,

I have decided to jump into the deep end. I have been lurking and following each months thread and today I finally printed out all the patterns. This should be very good for improving my skills as I have only made 3 quilts. What you all have been doing since the start is just fabulous! Just be ready for some rookie questions! LOL

Libster 07-07-2017 06:21 PM

We've all been the rookie at one time, so ask away!

Oksewnsew 07-07-2017 06:54 PM

Love your blocks, jaba, especially the paisley. Paisleys have always been a fav of mine. TSC, just ask away, there's always someone to help.

Dad is still hanging on. But he so, so confused. They think the cancer is spreading and now I have to stay up with him all night and my Aunt usually stays with him so I can sleep. But today his little brother had open heart surgery today and she wanted to be with my Aunt and uncle. Surgery went well, just too much at one time but we will survive it. I quit swapping for a bit because he keeps me busy at night so I thought I would catch up with this when I have the time. But tonight just too tired didn't get much sleep yesterday because my Aunt wasn't here.

Lv2sew2011 07-07-2017 10:51 PM

Love those colors Jaba. All of your blocks ladies are awesome...

I joined this month. During the Virtual Quilt Weekend got July sqs finished. And tonight got brave and just tried something to upload pictures from camera to computer. Don't know how to do anything with them. Think I need another program.

I finished my first block. It was not without its ups and downs. How does everyone keep all of those little pieces in order and the right direction. I sewed all of the 2 little triangles to the first solid square in the wrong order. I did not realize it until I had all 4 corner bits sewn together. Then it was out on my porch and rip out 8 seams - jeesh! A friend who is a quilter and who has been mentoring me said that you are a quilter when you start ripping out seams. Well folks, guess what - I am a quilter!

Once I got past all of the mistakes, it came together pretty nice. I think I actually have more points meeting than not - major improvement:thumbup:

Libster 07-08-2017 11:24 AM

Love your block! Well done. Ripping builts character you know. You learn to double check, have patience and sometimes, some new words. LOL We've all been there. We know how you're feeling right now. You stuck with it and conquered. That's the important thing. You definitely are now a quilter!
