This is so much fun. I just don't know how this happened, between a bunch of vintage sewing machines coming in to my house and now making quilting blocks. It sure shows how your interests change. I used to hate to sew, I had a good weaving friend help me hem the first curtains that I wove because I did not want to sew them. Now I am looking for things to stick under a needle! LOL

I can't say I ever hated to sew. I started wayyyyyyyyyyy back when in 4-H when you could join early and did things on and off including some of my kids clothes, etc. Now I prefer not to sew unless it has to do with quilting. The color combinations, the pattern selections, then freedom to just go with it and the challenge to see if you can even do it I truly enjoy. Yup, I have the quilting bug.

Fiber addiction

LOL - Just what I need, another fiber addiction! My entire loft and attached 10'×10' closet is filled with yarns - as in hundreds of of pounds - and weaving equipment. All of my vintage sewing machines have taken over what was a dining room, plus a bonus machine in my bedroom! Good thing I have an eat-in kitchen and a huge house

This is my weaving studio and that doorway at the far end leads to the stash room:-) If you like fiber, my house is kind of a fun place to be.

Whoo hoo!!! I made a 10 1/2" square block! Wow, it really does work out:-) Here is a catch-up block from January, Album Frame:

I am thinking that I am going to stop using the black floral print. It just seems too jarring to my eye. Here are the blocks that I've done so far:

Seeing them like that, the black floral is like a sore thumb. I might redo Auntie's Puzzle. What do you all think?

JayneW 07-11-2017 08:39 AM

Wow, you are killing it! You are doing much better at "catching" up than I am, but I'll get there! I like your fabrics - but we'll see what the veterans have to say. Your learning curve has been very impressive!!! It is clear you are a very talented lady!

Boy can I relate... It's a good thing I live alone! I converted two bedrooms to a quilting studio with a stash room, and now quilting has overtaken my enclosed garage, that was to be a family room, and its filled with quilts and vintage machines. I do have a daybed in there, for very occasionally company, and if you really snoop you will even find fabric in the bottom drawer of my bank of drawers in the kitchen! Someday that, too, might make it in with my other fabrics...maybe.:o

Beautiful room with all the looms. i have been working on my blocks today. I might have to start over. I was trying to use up my civil war fabrics but i don't like the scrappy look it is giving me. I am the tpe that just likes using a few fabrics. Going back to sewing room and try something different. I joined late so only have July and June done. I can make potholders with them. Ok back to look at what I have.

I like it without the black. I especially like your blocks with white. It brightens up the blocks a lot. I am using 4 different fabrics too.

I like the paisley a lot. Just think you need to add more of the black like in the first block. That would break up the monotony of all the blue. Don't know for sure, but I think what you are calling black floral is the one showing up as gray? I like it in there. I like it a lot! Don't change any... Just add more of the solid black here and there. I would not be so bold, but you asked... and that's what I think! Stop second guessing yourself and go with the flow! Just keep those blocks in sight when you choose colors for the next blocks and you will see it all come together. Then when you get near the end if you see a block you don't like you can always remake it. You're doing fine! Janet

All of the blocks being posted look so nice. It may be a while before I can get my July blocks finished. Lots of stuff going on but will definitely have them done this month.

WOW!! how awesome!

I sure do love everyone blocks so pretty and bright.

Talking about hating to sew that was me too, but I think the reason behind it was I had a hard time reading directions. I'm more of a show me how person or pictures, I don't know why I have a hard time with reading direction but I've noticed in my family we have Dyslexia runs in the family and I think that I might have it too. My youngest son has it too and my father. But in 2009 I fell off a concrete mixer truck and did some damage to my body that stops me from working. And I needed something to do and was on facebook and someone posted a quilt and I thought I wonder if I could do that and that is the rest of my story on liking to sew now but just quilts. But I look at the pictures to see how it's done. LOL!

Tomara, What pretty blocks, especially the top left. I am very partial to greens which is kind of funny because mine are all in blues:-)

Theresa, I can only dream of having the fabulous space you have! I would love to see you post some of your projects that you wove.

Today if the rain ever lets up, we will be heading to our place in the Dells. I have this strong urge to go to the quilt store in Reedsburg. That always leaves my pocketbook a little lighter but helps with my obsession to acquire fabric...just because!
I joined in June and I posted my Jan. block on the Quilting Bee January forum site. Should we post our catch

We have been told to post in the most current month, any blocks we finish this month, regardless of which month they are far. So don't go back to the other months, just put them here.

Oksewnsew 07-12-2017 07:17 AM

Gorgeous blocks, ladies - I'm so happy you are enjoying these. Donna, good to see you posting again, the top will be so pretty when complete. TSC, I agree, don't do anything to the little blk/wht print - just leave them, you can work them in thru your top, and they won't be so noticeable - they'll blend in, and add some interest. If you will add more of the white, that will help too.. Thanks Barb, for adding where to post pictures... Posting them in the current thread saves 'you' time in going back, and that way we can rave about them in one spot. ;o)

Just Jan 07-12-2017 07:30 AM

Lv2sew2011, that is going to be one gorgeous quilt! Keep it up!

July Blocks

1 Attachment(s)
I finally finished my blocks for July. I had an awful time. Everything went wrong. From the machine to cutting . I made up my mind I was going to get them done. I love to sew, and I am awful at it. I probably should have picked different colors. I am not about to do them again. It is what it is.

Very hot here. I have come to the conclusion I DON'T LIKE SUMMER fall best of all.

retiredteacher09 07-12-2017 12:46 PM

Whew! It took me a while to read all of the posts from the beginning. I saw the new block listings and even copied them but forgot to comment so I wasn't getting any updates! Lol! Today, I finally realized why there weren't any updates!

Welcome to the newcomers! This is a wonderful thread.

Lovely blocks! Thanks everyone for posting and the lively and informative conversations.

Carrot: Where did you go for your loft sewing day? It reminds me of the Hutchinson quilt shop.

I haven't started this month's blocks yet as I am trying to finish a few baby tops.

Jan, If you are on Ravelry, my handle is the same there, tscweaves, and I have some projects out there. My production dropped for a while due to some medical issues. The projects there are mostly towels, bags, and blankets, and some other things I do with yarn.

So many things to do, so little time:-) I am trying to work in my mind a way to incorporate weaving, braiding, and quilting together. Should be fun to figure out.

tscweaves 07-12-2017 01:26 PM

Okay, the black & white floral will stay, just not is any large pieces of a block. I am glad that I started all of this early in the month, because next week I am running away to Virginia and then on to Pennsylvania for a weaving conference. I get to go and fondle yarns and weaving toys, how fun:-) The rest of this week will be taken up with getting ready.

I'm thinking of an old fashioned rag doll with braided yarn hair, wearing a quilted pinafore, sitting on her woven rug! Janet

Tomara, lovely blocks!

This is a different type of braiding. These are oblique braids created on a takadai, or a high braiding stand. I am thinking more in the lines of a quilted jacket with handwoven fabric and braided accents. This is what a braid on stand looks like:

And anyways, dolls creep me out:-)

Your fabric choices are beautiful. I'd want to know, so I'm telling you. One square is turned. The block on the left, the square to the right of center.
