Got it sewed up, thought I'd never get done with all those little pieces but finally...Would really hate to do a whole quilt in this block. 1 or 2 not bad..

Thanks Jan! I finished my one block as a filler will post it tomorrow did Octagon with a twist (quilters cache). I cut all the balkan but my brain now at 11:00 pm is not functioning. tomorrow is another day (phew!). love the bold bright colors in the block posted just above Jabas and then there is the soft pastels.. all so different. I got a lot accomplished today big old pat on my own back. Not bad at all :)

There is no such thing as a mistake for quilters. They are called "learning experiences". lol

Can I still join? If so, how many blocks behind am I?

CarolynMT 01-14-2013 03:36 PM

Of course you can still join. This week is catch up week.

From what wyldwytch has set up, there are 2 blocks per week, one easy and one challenging. You can do as many or as few as you like. I opted to 2 quilts, one of the easy blocks and one of the challenging blocks. Here is a review of the blocks to date :

Week 1:
Easy: http://www.quilterscache.com/F/FancyStripesBlock.html
Challenge: http://www.quilterscache.com/A/Arkan...oadsBlock.html
Week 2:
Easy: http://www.quilterscache.com/B/BrokenWheelBlock.html
Challenge: http://www.quilterscache.com/A/Axe&ChurnBlock.htm
Week 3:
Easy: http://www.quilterscache.com/B/BalkanPuzzleBlock.html
Challenge: http://www.quilterscache.com/I/Inter...zzleBlock.html

Beautiful!
All the blocks are great. I have mine done but.....................

Elisabrat 01-14-2013 06:50 PM

I finished my balkan and last night would have been a disaster I was too tired. Today it is done but I have to say it must be just me but it was not as simple to line up all those pieces and I measured twice .. i would say that is not an easy block for a beginner and I am not a beginner. a later beginner perhaps. This should be seriously thought about when you ladies pick the blocks. just because you can whip it out doesnt mean another person can. and while we all like to learn and push ourselves this is month one. and there is no teacher sitting there by their side like a class would be. There are some definite beginners and I thought I might mention it. take it or leave it. but in the start you know its like nine patches then maybe another of the blocks that is half square triangles and squares then you branch a bit to say antique tile and work your way to oh a monkey wrench you know that kind of moving forward. get good at one. then tackle the next. flying geese are not newbie blocks as if you dont know which grain line your on or start in the center and sew out to the lower corner.. little rules of the game.. that make making them easier? sorry I am over tired. i get these good thoughts and then promptly forget them and THEN well if all falls out at once. I apologize.

Hey I wanted to apologize for my earlier post. I am over tired today and over cranky and its no ones fault but my own. The comment on what blocks you chose is not appropriate its up to the leader in the end and always up to the leader of the group. It was not called for to comment or judge that decision. So please accept my apology and know that I will work hard in the future to not bring any issues I might have to public forum. I just really had a bad quilting day all around. well off to bed. tomorrow hopefully will be a much better day. thanks for hearing me out guys.

elisabrat, I appreciate your comments on the ease of making the Balkan's Puzzle block. When it was suggested during the quilt along, i looked at the pattern and questioned why it was chosen and why they thought it was hard. But I hadnt read the directions. I looked at the picture and saw a 16-patch of HST's just like the Fancy Stripe square with a variance in color placement only. It was why Wyldwytch put the blurb with the choice of the block to let people know that it was basically a variation of technique. But your point stating that "what a experienced quilter can whip out could be a different story for a newbie" is well taken. I am just as guilty of seeing patterns from my more experienced eye--but then i see Ana doing up a block beautifully from a pattern that experienced quilters had told her was WAAAY too hard for a newbie. And that was back in May shortly after she joined QB and had yet to even sew a 4-patch. I shall look forward to seeing what contributions you will make to the selection of he next blocks.

Elisa, I know personally, I welcome comments from everyone.....I may not follow it per se, but it is hard to make an educated decision without education ;) Hence the request for input. That is me.....

Now after talking with wyldwytch in the chat area for the past month (good gracious only that long!) I have to say my impression is that she is just as open to comments. Matter of fact, friday night chats are evolving into "block selection" where everyone in the chat posts and/or comments on blocks. Please come join us one friday night. We are not so scary.... there are a group of regulars in there, those that come every day/night. An absolutely great group of ladies and even a few gents. And the friday night block selection is wonderful too.

As rose mentioned, it is hard for each of us to gauge what is "easy" and "challenging", for me personally, I am up for any challenge (yes I am the one guilty of the Interlocked Puzzle block) Often times we dont have enough people to help with the easy blocks.....One would think that would be the easier block to pick, but it isnt. Challenging block is easy to pick out....just look for the "OMG!" reaction. But an easy block, which should be easy enough for even a beginning quilter to tackle yet still be challenging enough that they feel like they are learning...that is not so easy. And that is invariably the blocks we have the most trouble selecting.

So please, everyone, come join us......we are very open and accepting, but be warned if you talk about a project or quilt you are doing/have done, you best come armed with photos :p we love looking at work.
