Quilt Along January 2013

Hi everyone, hope the holidays are finding you stress free, or with less stress than usual. In January I will be starting a Quilt Along and I would love for you all to join me. The information is posted below:

Quilt Along to start in January:
Friday January 4, 2013
8:30 - 9:30 PM in the chat room
Each week there is a choice of 2 blocks, one easy and one more challenging.
We meet in the chatroom between 8:30 - 9:30 to chat and discuss the blocks we are working on, answer any questions or to help those who need some help.
Every 3rd week is a catch up week for those who may have gotten too busy to do their blocks.
Pictures will be posted each week of the members finished block and at the end of the Quilt Along a picture of the finished top
Members who are involved will vote on what blocks we work on every 3rd week for the following 2 weeks.
Nothing other than information and friendship will be exchanged..:)

This weekend I will be posting a list of the blocks that we will be working on. If anyone has any suggestions for a block or any questions feel free to drop me a line.

Looking forward to chatting and quilting with everyone who joins..:)

I hope to join in...

where will the pictures and directions be posted? And what if I miss a week? Can I still keep up? How big will the blocks be? This sounds like fun.

Wyldwytch 12-13-2012 06:49 PM

Hi Hope. All links for the pattern will be posted here. Every third week we will have a catch up week where no block will be worked, it's going to be a catch up week and a chance to really chat and see how everything is going, discuss colors they are using in their quilts, ideas and whatever else people choose to talk about. I am aiming to have all the blocks be 12 inches so that we all get a decent sized couch quilt to cozy up under...:)

If you have any ideas for a pattern block that maybe you want to try let me know and I will add it to the list that I have started.

hopetoquilt 12-13-2012 07:04 PM

I am excited to start. No great blocks come to mind yet for suggestions. I am already thinking about fabrics.

playswithcolor 12-13-2012 07:06 PM

Hi Rosie,
This will end up being sort of a sampler quilt? Is there a theme to the blocks being chosen? Stars, 9 patch variations, etc?

Sheepshed 12-13-2012 07:23 PM

Can *pre-blocks* be posted early for those of us NOT swamped by Christmas things.. ? I will participate in some way, somehow...

JudyVA 12-13-2012 08:09 PM

Hi Rosie,
This is a nice idea...quilting with friends without leaving home and having to pack up to go anywhere....my block suggestion is Crossed Canoes...this is a bit more challenging than some basic blocks and works well as a contemporary or traditional block...I can send the pattern if you need it.
Looking forward to this and have to remember to put it on my calendar.

catjo 12-14-2012 10:57 AM

I hope to join in. Will at least give it a shot. Would like to learn different blocks as I have not made a variety, just uncertain of myself. Thanks for putting this together.

pdcakm 12-14-2012 11:06 AM

should i assume that the time is eastern time zone?

loria183 12-14-2012 12:16 PM

Ohhhh. This sounds like fun. So this would be at 5:30 Pacific time. Thanks for thinking of it.

PokerDiva 12-14-2012 12:31 PM

Can we join this without going to the chat room? Not a good time for me.

oldtnquiltinglady 12-14-2012 05:32 PM

This looks like something I might add to my New Year's resolutions list. I am not so sure about the chat room thing though. Someone will have to explain that to me. So long as "DWTS" doesn't come on while I am in the chat room.....

linmid 12-14-2012 06:11 PM

What does "DWTS" mean? Would like to try this but I am not familiar with the "chat room". How does it work?

Just Barb 12-14-2012 09:10 PM

Would also like to join in.....would it be a requirement to post your blocks? I have absolutely no knowledge of how to do this, or camera, etc. Please post the chat room time for us CSTer's. Also, maybe a hint or two about the chat room. This is definitely a learn as you go experience for me.....but, I love it.
Be watching for more info. Merry Christmas to all or Happy Holidays.
Just Barb

Elisabrat 12-14-2012 09:54 PM

I will probably follow along and post pics etc here but a chat room no. I am happy with the forum style myself. I am good at simple blocks. The greek cross is my new favorite :) any block with no more than four sub squares across.. get to six rows and I am not having a good time. This sounds like a sampler quilt I think as your open to voting for new blocks? It is very good of you to start a thread however. We all enjoy them but few of us run them. How many weeks are you thinking/ you mentioned couch throw so it will be approx how many squares across down? thanks!!!

sustraley 12-15-2012 03:44 AM

DWTS-Dancing With The Stars. :)

happyjan 12-15-2012 04:43 AM

I am interested! but I am in South Australia so not sure about the chat room as I'm not sure on the time difference. :)

vickig626 12-15-2012 06:49 AM

I will follow along to as time permits but not a "chat room" person. This would be a good way of destashing in 2013.

Nancygeddes 12-15-2012 11:05 AM

Sounds interesting! Keeping my fingers crossed that the blocks will not be to difficult for me.

Wyldwytch 12-15-2012 02:27 PM

Hi everyone, sorry I didn't get in here yesterday, very busy and today I took a class for a Bargello quilt.

Playswithcolor - This will be a sampler, but I am not sure we are going to have a theme.

JudyVA - Please send that block on if you have a pattern that everyone can view, thanks.

Pdcatc and Loria183 - Yes, this will be eastern time so 5:30 pacific.

PokerDiva - Absolutely, just remember to try and post your finished work.

Oldtnquiltinglady - I m suyre we could hepl you find the chat so you can join us to try it out.

JustBarb - It's not a requirement to post, would be nice, but if you can't it's all good. If you have blocks with patterns that everyone can view, that would be great. I'm thinking we will finish out somewhere between a 4x6 or a 5x6.

Happyjar and Vickg626 - Not a problem.

Nancy - It's a good way to try new things, just remember there will be 2 blocks posted per week, one easy and one challenging, you choose which you would like to do.

Later tonight when I get home from dinner with hubby and friends I will post JUST ONE of the first weeks blocks for those who want to play along can get an idea of where we might and can go with our quilts.

Also, thank you all for being interested in this. It was an idea that I thought might work, this is my first time trying something like this so please bear with me as I work out kinks along the way.

Is there anyway you can make the print LARGER on your first post here? I can barely read it and I have good eyes. Thanks

terisail 12-15-2012 02:37 PM

Would love to try! Not good at chat rooms either. But I could give it a go.

grandme26 12-15-2012 03:07 PM

I would like to follow along also but do not do chat rooms. This is a great idea to get us out of a rout if we are in one.

pocoellie 12-15-2012 06:18 PM

I would like to join, I'm also not sure about chat or the time, but it sounds like we don't have to do chat or show pics. Thanks for doing this.

JuanitaBean 12-15-2012 08:42 PM

I would like to join, it sounds like a lot of fun, like to do new things so count me in. Do I need to PM you or is this ok?

Elisabrat 12-15-2012 08:47 PM

I think we deserve virtual drinks for these vents so I propose tonight is a hot chocolate with grand marnier and kalua topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings anyone else like a cup? I am sitting here ready to pour! (ok hot cocoa for the non drinkers)

frustratedquilter40 12-15-2012 08:58 PM

Elisabrat 12-17-2012 08:39 AM

buslady 12-18-2012 07:50 AM

Elisa you are a brat!! If you are doing this one, it is sure to be a kick! I'm in. Like I REALLY need another project. But, I love it. Over in the "Scrappy Club" someone posted a Debbie Mumm free pater link. I am going to start that right after Christmas, too. I have soooo sewwwwww many scraps. Can't wait to get started.

Wyldwytch 12-19-2012 06:50 PM

Hi everyone, sorry I have been gone for a few days, I decided to take a vacation in the hospital for 3 days... I will be in tomorrow to post a block and answer any questions that came up while I was gone. Sorry for the blip in communications everyone, certainly not what I wanted to do the past 3 days.

Rosie the Wyldwytch

happylab 12-19-2012 07:21 PM

This sounds like an interesting scrap project. Please count me in. I'm looking forward to working on the block and chatting with everyone. Thank- you.

Elisabrat 12-20-2012 06:08 AM

Rosie I am sorry you took that vacation and hope all is well now. I think you went there for the food myself. I spent three plus months there last year and well the food gets sorta boring pretty quick. I will have to take a pass at going anytime soon again. I feel for you.

I think I could start sewing right now :) ok I could sew like all the time. I do sew all the time. I pick up the house the second i get up my DH is not the most put together sort. Then I slam on clothes and look around its all good off to the sewing table. These are on my non dialysis days but that leaves me four days a week to well.. sew. I am figuring one day I might even get better at it! My stash is almost all comprised of scraps from others quilts. this is fine with me its a stash and now I would like to start decimating it into pretty little quilts. tapping fingers on my leg waiting waiting waiting I do waiting well by the way so dont mind me.

dingle525 12-20-2012 07:37 AM

Are we going to be making different size blocks? The first block is 9" and the second is 12".
