My 1st Bitty Blocks are finished, I am using 30's fabric. They whip up quickly and are a fun project.

Jennie and Me 01-15-2015 09:40 AM

Love the 30s fabrics that you're using. I have strips cut out of that fabric to make a quilt with "big" Bow Tie blocks. Have had them cut for four or so years. (Why get in a hurry, right?) Need to get that done.

QltrSue 01-15-2015 12:15 PM

Gramquilter2, your blocks are great! Just love the 30's look. Nice to use stash, isn't it?

QltrSue 02-02-2015 05:49 AM

So has anyone found the Feb pattern for the Itty Bitties yet? I'm on EST and wonder if they have already posted or will on Colorado time?

The basket blocks are so cute, the instructions look really good thx for posting this

katybob 02-02-2015 03:32 PM

Here's the link to the new blocks. I don't know why we weren't notified, This link was posted by another board member in another thread.

Going to be a nice doll quilt!

QltrSue 02-02-2015 04:19 PM

Thank you for the link,Katybob. Will try to get ot those tomorrow. Those half-sqaure tri's will be a challenge for me. I may see if using the Easy Angle ruler will work with those little pieces.

katybob 02-02-2015 06:36 PM

Using the Easy Angle ruler might not work as well with such tiny HST's. I've used the Easy Angle a lot and I like it, but for this I think I'll cut the squares a lot bigger than the pattern calls for and trim the HST's down.

QltrSue 02-03-2015 04:26 AM

Yes, those Hst are pretty little. Will have to experiment a bit, I think.

gramquilter2 02-03-2015 06:53 AM

Thanks for posting the link, I did not receive the notification from Quilt Maker either.

I'm working on my "basket" blocks...have 7 done so far. I ended up with 42 "bow tie" blocks. I'm hoping that I don't run out of these scraps 'cause I have no idea where I bought the original fabric. The extra "bow tie" blocks will be made into a doll quilt for Malina.

I am also making these ittybitty blocks, made the bowties last week and hopefully next week will get to the basket blocks. Love everyones blocks they are so cute

SheriR 02-05-2015 04:42 AM

Wow what a fun project! I'm following y'all and maybe I'll find time to join!

QltrSue 02-05-2015 04:51 AM

Jennie&Me: You're so fast! How was it making the small hst? Did you make them bigger and cut down, or as described in the directions? They look great!

Mirabelle: Looking great! Love the little maverick going her own way!

Hope to get to mine over the weekend.

sewbelle52 02-05-2015 05:32 AM

Looks like a Thangles project to me. Makes them so much more exact for littles than I can make! I have really gotten in to minis--must be the "new" thing as I'm seeing many designers offering mini patterns.

Jennie and Me 02-05-2015 10:59 AM

QltrSue, the HST's were not so bad. I'm a pinner, even on something as small as these. And I press after each step. I am really getting into this little stuff! I did not trim them up, just followed directions. They aren't perfect, but by the time you get them all put together into a quilt, no one will ever know the difference. Just have fun! I still have a few more basket blocks to do.

gramquilter2 02-06-2015 03:02 PM

jennie&me, love your basket blocks. Haven't started mine yet but hope to get the baskets done this weekend and also make 16 more bowties. Great project.

Jennie and Me 02-07-2015 11:35 PM

O.K., so I was really proud of myself...I was done with the twelve basket blocks that I'm making. Hmm, why do these last two blocks look funny? Well, crud, I had put them together wrong. I made myself rip them out since I'm afraid that I'll run short on fabric. Now I just have to put them back together..the correct way. Sometimes I am so anal!

wendiq 02-10-2015 08:15 AM

I found January's....where is the one for February?

Mariposa 02-10-2015 08:20 AM

Nice start! :)

For some reason I wasn't able to paste the link this time. Go to post #47 in this thread and you'll see the link to February's block.

Wonnie 02-10-2015 08:36 AM

Made 32 of the bowtie blocks and have 6 of the baskets done and the rest cut out to make the 14 suggested. The baskets turned out cute but I'd never describe the 1" HST's as fun....LOL

wendiq 02-10-2015 09:36 AM

Thanks katybob......found it. Makes me wonder though if all the other months are going to be as illusive. Is there someplace to sign up for this so that we can be sure of getting the monthly block?

katybob 02-10-2015 09:47 AM

I couldn't figure out how to be notified of new blocks, but go to this site:

www.quiltmaker.com/blog/quiltypleasures

Wonnie 02-10-2015 11:11 AM

That did not work for me. The only way I've been able to get to their site is to Google " #qmbittyblocks and sometimes just "bitty blocks". I wasn't notified of the February block either...had to go searching for it but , somewhere along the line there was a notice that each new block would come out the first Monday of each new month and that's how I found the February one.

ManiacQuilter2 02-10-2015 02:46 PM

Here is February:

I just pulled some old reproductions. I plan on only making one of each block. Didn't think of making a Christmas quilt but I am sure that is going to be beautiful. Wonder what the layout will look like. Did you see the picture of all the blocks this lady made?? She had them hung on a mini clothesline in her quilting studio.

Wonnie 02-10-2015 04:25 PM

Somewhere, while searching for the February block, I read that she would be posting, I thought, layouts to give us choices as to size we wished to make. Did anyone else read that ???

JuanitaBean 02-10-2015 09:50 PM

This look like it will be fun. I'm learning to do small quilt.

Cottage Dee 02-11-2015 05:13 AM

I went to the itty bitty january .....on the right side is the listing by month. It is in the february ...

sailsablazin 02-11-2015 05:21 PM

This looks interesting to me. (Not like I don't have any other projects to do). However I need ideas as to what to do with them. I am a hand quilter so not sure that I want to do all that quilting. What can you do with these blocks if they are different sizes? She did say that they would be between 3-4 inches, so there could be some variation.
Please share ideas.

No baby girls around (but 3 wonderful little boys), so no doll quilts...

Jennie and Me 02-11-2015 05:59 PM

I'm planning on making mine into a row quilt. Of course, I may change my mind once I see all of the blocks. Could be interesting. My thought is that it will make a cute lap quilt. And...if I truly don't like it, I can give it away.

gramquilter2 02-12-2015 06:39 AM

That February block has a lot of seams. Any good hints on the cutting, sewing, or pressing.

katybob 02-12-2015 07:08 AM

Lots of starch helps and I used Elmer's instead of pins for the last few blocks and they're a little less wonky.

toverly 02-12-2015 07:29 AM

What fun! I'll join in. But I may just do one block each and make a tiny sampler quilt. Anyone else?

Beebonnet 02-12-2015 04:29 PM

Having some troubles with the baskets. 1st one too small, second one too large. Yikes!! I love making small blocks but this one is a real challenge. I will try starch next. I know that helps but wonkiness isn't my problem as much as size. I am trimming to 1 and a half for the small half squares and 2 and a half for the large one. Trimming each before I sew. I wish they had given this block in any other month than Feb. Getting ready for a retreat and will be gone later in the month. I hate getting behind already. So, how are other peoples baskets coming along?

I am also planning on only make one block of each month too.

I found advice that I saw a few years ago when F&P had someone on their show that did miniature blocks. She had many suggestions but the one thing I remember is to make your block a bit larger then after starching and pressing them, trim them down to size. Hope this helps.

Whew! I hope the March blocks are a little less challenging! Here are my blocks for February:

I just re-read the February instructions and in the comments section, it says that layout suggestions are coming next week. Also, found "somewhere" (!) on the blog, are instructions to make 8 Hsts from a square. I'm going to try that method and the Easy Angle ruler as well when I work up the nerve to manage those tiny pieces!
