The funny part is I've been to three of those towns!

We have a Climax, Michigan too. My friend Tracy was the homecoming queen a few years ago. Her claim to fame was that she was the Queen of C . . . :-)

:D Thanks for these. There is a book titled Passing Gas that has great little stories about towns with odd names in the USA. If you see it anywhere, pick it up. It is a hoot!

That one should definitely be on the list, Loretta! (I'll check out the link, too.)

Judee, thanks for the book recommend. It's just the sort of thing I'd love to read.

I enjoyed seeing the posts on other oddball town names, too. If I ever pass through Weed, I'd buy a t-shirt.

I don't remember the shooting by Intercourse, PA. (And intercourse is a perfectly respectable word, btw. My mother used to give "business intercourse" as an example.) There have sadly been so many of them. I mean, you age jogging loose a memory now that I think about it... that town and Bird-in-hand, which is right by it, are definitely in Amish country.

Lisanne, I might be wrong, but it seems like news announcers were using Intercourse as a reference to the location of the small town closest to the schoolhouse. I'm trying to remember when it happened; I think it was about four years ago. I know my husband was driving Amish then and they wouldn't talk about it.

I didn't mean to hijack the thread with this, it just popped into my head when I saw the name.

Judee, I'm going to look for that book. It sounds like something my DH would love. Me, too!

Edit: I just googled the book. It's "Passing Gas: And Other Towns Along the American Highway." The author, Gary Gladstone, also wrote another book called "Reaching Climax: And Other Towns Along the American Highway." They're both on Amazon. They both received excellent ratings.

I learn so much on this board! :D

Funny! I know the first place very well, it's near where my family are from and it had never occurred to me that it was funny before now!

There's a village near us here in France called 'Ars'.

Intercourse was in the opposite direction from Blue Balls, Pennsylvania.

Did anyone notice the divorce cakes at the same site? http://www.oddee.com/item_96863.aspx

I live in PA. They listed Intercourse and Bird in Hand, but they forgot Blue Balls :XD:
