I have a friend who winters there and I have visited. The actual city of deland is very nice, small city.....almost a large town. There use to be a really neat small quilt shop right in town. If you have specific questions that by some chance no one on this board can answer....I can check with my friend. I really liked the area....affordable living.

There is a the Quilt Shop of Deland, plus several shops in driving distance. I have visited them during a shop hop and found the one in Deland friendly.

There is a very nice dropzone there if you want to take up skydiving.

I work in DeLand but live outside of town. I agree with the previous comments. It's a nice little city with a small town feel. If there's anything more specific you'd like to know, send me a PM. And good luck on your interview!

We used to live in Orange City which is next door to Deland. Nice area. Stetson College is there and while the downtown area isn't large it is a neat area with interesting shops. Orlando is about 30 miles south and there is plenty of shopping close by.

I agree. Deland is a nice little town. Stetson Universary is there and is quite pretty. Daytona Beach is about 45-60 mins away, Orlando is within driving distance. Quilt Shop of Deland is a very nice shop with friendly staff. The store is not huge but they have lots of fabric, notions, etc. to pick from. Orange City is nearby with a nice shop, Ormond Beach has a great shop as well as Daytona and New Smyrna Beach. Lots of quilting purchase opportunities.

You can't go wrong if you visit the Quilt Shop of Deland. The owner of the store has her own fabric lines...and there are lots of patterns, fabrics, and ideas. It's a friendly place. Good luck on the job interview!
You can Google "Quilt shops in FL" to see what else is availabe, but the above posts have been spot on.

I've been through there, and stopped at the quilt shop. It's one of the better ones I've been to. I like the town too.
